Bei Mingyuan was resting with his eyes closed when the door was pushed open.
Xin Huohuo then stood there in a daze, as if she hadn't expected to see him. 'It's been so long. Hasn't he left yet?'
Startled, Bei Mingyuan's inquisitive gaze shifted toward her.
"I... I came to get my coat..." Xin Huohuo stammered in explanation.
Bei Mingyuan closed his eyes again, a gesture that meant she could do as she pleased.
Xin Huohuo had no choice. After hesitating for a moment, she shuffled over to the bedside. With Bei Mingyuan just inches away, she knelt on the floor to retrieve the coat, hat, and gloves she had previously kicked onto the bed. She didn't even dare to breathe too loudly.
'He's clearly not asleep, right? So why am I being so careful? But being this close to him, even if he were fast asleep, would still put me under a lot of stress.'
"This won't work," she said, mustering her courage.
