The closer Zhou Lian's due date drew, the more anxious Li Xiu became. Zhou Lian was rather exasperated. If anyone should be nervous, it was her, the one actually giving birth. 'What's a grown man like him getting so worked up for?'
In the middle of the night, Zhou Lian was jolted awake by a crushing embrace. She pushed at Li Xiu, who was holding her tightly, and felt his body trembling violently. 'He must be having a nightmare!' she thought, shoving him again, this time with more force.
He shot bolt upright on the kang bed, but his grip on Zhou Lian didn't loosen in the slightest. Hearing his ragged gasps, Zhou Lian reached out to touch his face and her hand came away slick with sweat. In the dead of winter, Li Xiu was somehow drenched in a cold sweat.
"What's wrong?"
Zhou Lian's voice snapped Li Xiu out of his daze. 'That chaotic nightmare had scared him half to death.'
