The next morning, just as the sky was beginning to lighten, the old lady got dressed and out of bed.
She'd been thinking about it all night, barely sleeping as she mulled over her son's job situation. Although her daughter's repeated assurances the day before had convinced her that it was real this time—that her son's job was truly secured—a person of her age couldn't feel at ease until everything was completely settled.
And so, unable to lie in bed any longer, she got up at the crack of dawn and started making breakfast. She figured that after they ate, she'd have Xiao Bao go find his uncle and head to the textile factory early. She wouldn't be able to rest easy until the employment papers were finalized. As for going to work in the fields, that wasn't important. Those few work points were nothing compared to an iron rice bowl.
