"Mom, are we butchering our pig?" Yuan Si asked, stepping out of the kitchen after the others had left.
"Yep. It's getting cold, so the meat will freeze well now. It's perfect timing to butcher it before the New Year. We'll have enough to eat all the way past the first month of the lunar calendar," the old lady said cheerfully.
Yuan Si frowned and scanned the two scrawny pigs in the pen again. "Our pigs barely have any meat on them. Isn't it a waste to butcher them now?"
"Nonsense. Our pigs are plenty fat, thank you very much." The old lady walked over to the pigpen, her eyes crinkling with a smile as she looked at the two "big, fat pigs" inside. "You have no idea. Everyone in the village is jealous of how well I raise pigs. These two both weigh nearly one hundred and fifty jin." Her tone was filled with pride.
