After stowing their belongings and making their beds, the members of the small group gathered together again. This time, they were going to check out the cafeteria. The school had this simple cafeteria because some of the middle school students had to live in the dorms. Boarding students could bring grain from home each week, hand it over to the cafeteria, pay a small processing fee, and the cafeteria would steam their meals for them at set times every day. They would only need to spend a few cents on a vegetable dish or just bring their own pickled vegetables from home.
None of them were familiar with this system and hadn't prepared in advance, so they could only spend money to buy their entire meal.
