On the twenty-sixth day of the twelfth lunar month, Li Yuanshan came to see the matriarch, carrying a large burlap sack of goods all by herself.
For the past few years, it had basically always been Li Yuanshan who came to visit the matriarch, usually around this time of year. Sometimes she came alone, and other times she came with her husband, but she never brought the children along anymore.
In Li Yuanshan's own words, it was just too expensive. If she brought all the children, they certainly couldn't afford to take the bus and would have to walk. The journey would be long and troublesome, so it was better for her to come alone or with her husband. Taking the bus was faster, and it saved money on two fares.
