The next morning, as the family of three was having breakfast, Xiao Furen shared some good news with his mother-in-law: he would be taking a recruitment exam the following Monday.
The old woman knew this was a big deal. After breakfast, she wouldn't even let her son-in-law wash the dishes, shooing him into his room to rest instead.
Xiao Furen had no choice but to obey and went into the room to lie down.
But as it turned out, when Yuan Si was wheeling her bicycle out to leave for work, Xiao Furen snuck out of the room. He took the handlebars from his wife and carefully pushed the bike out the front door.
"Why are you out here again? Weren't you supposed to be resting today?" Yuan Si only dared to speak once they were out the main gate.
Xiao Furen swung a long leg over the bike with practiced ease, then looked back and patted the rear seat. "I'm not some delicate girl who needs to rest for two days just for a test."
