As a civilian consultant for the criminal police, Yuan Si had nothing left to do now that the professionals were on the scene. It was boring just hanging around, so after getting permission from Captain Fu, she prepared to head back to the station on her own.
She had planned to take the bus back, but just as she reached the intersection, a military jeep pulled up from behind and stopped in front of her.
Yuan Si turned to look as the car window rolled down. "You must be Comrade Xiao Li, right? Where are you headed?" The middle-aged man in the military uniform, the same one who had praised her earlier, appeared at the window.
"Hello, Sir. I'm heading back to the station." Yuan Si, copying the title her colleagues had used, snapped to attention and gave the middle-aged man a military salute.
After a few words with the driver, the middle-aged man opened the back door. "It's on our way. Hop in. We'll give you a ride."
