When his mother arrived at the hospital room, Zhou Yaping was still asleep in her bed. Li Mubo was sitting on a stool, slumped against the metal cabinet beside the headboard. Apparently, that was how he had gotten through the night.
The old lady felt a flash of anger seeing her son suffering, but then she reconsidered. It was a case of one being willing to dish it out and the other willing to take it. What good would her anger do?
She calmed herself and walked into the room, tapping her son lightly once she reached him.
The sleeping Li Mubo jolted awake. He turned his head and saw his mother standing right behind him.
"Mom, you're here?" He glanced outside at the sky, realizing it was morning.
"Yes. You haven't eaten yet, have you? Hurry home, get cleaned up, and then head to work. I'll take over for the day." A mother's heart always aches for her own son; it was a feeling you couldn't understand unless you were a mother yourself.
