Lu Xize, his face as impassive as ever, peeled an apple. He cut it into small pieces, set a delicate fruit fork on the plate, and handed it to Lu Hailan.
Lu Hailan took a bite. It was sweet, tangy, and crisp—very refreshing.
After eating two pieces, Lu Hailan looked at Lu Xize. "Are things going well with you and Yaoyao?"
At the mention of Chu Yao, a hint of gentleness surfaced in Lu Xize's eyes, and the corners of his mouth curved into a faint smile. "Very well."
Lu Hailan was pale, but she couldn't help but smile when she saw her son's reaction. "Only Yaoyao can get you to look like that."
Lu Xize was noncommittal.
'People have many facets, and so do I. But I've saved all my gentleness for her.'
"I'm fine, so you should head back. Next time, bring that dear Yaoyao to see me. It's been so many years, and I do miss her."
Lu Xize nodded.
