With Evil HERO Dark Gaia on the Supreme King's field, every monster Amano controlled had lost 3700 ATK.
All four Elemental HEROs currently on his field were sitting at 0.
Before the Dark Gaia effect, matching the Evil HEROs' ATK in direct combat had already been nearly impossible with Supreme King's Castle on the field. Now the ATK gap had crossed from difficult into something closer to hopeless.
Finesse pressed both hands to her chest, tense. "Is... is there still a way through?"
"There is!" Amano threw the card forward in a flash. "With what Albaz left behind. The will to fuse!"
Through Alba-Lenatus the Abyss Dragon's Graveyard effect, the Polymerization Normal Spell Amano had retrieved from his Deck was Double Fusion.
And unlike a standard Polymerization, Double Fusion was two Fusions in one.
"Spell Card, Double Fusion, activate!"

"You haven't forgotten our three-card combo, have you, Jaden!"
"What..." Watching the familiar silhouette taking shape inside the first Fusion spiral, something unmistakable moved behind the Supreme King's cold gold eyes.
"Above the canvas of night, the fire of justice blazes! Let the wings of the HERO summon the wind!"

It lasted only a moment. After that single flicker, the Supreme King's closed expression settled back into cold indifference.
"Flame Wingman... So this is the HERO you wanted to show me, Rei? How naive. I told you: bonds like that, remnants of the past, I left all of it behind long ago."
"My Fusion is not finished! Double Fusion lets me go again!"
The second spiral opened above, drawing the next set of HERO cards from Amano's Duel Disk into its pull.
"Double Fusion, second shot! I Fuse Elemental HERO Flame Wingman - Skyscraper Shot with Elemental HERO Neos!"
The Supreme King's brow tightened. "Flame Wingman fused with Neos?"
Another combination he had never seen before. Inside the sky where fire and brilliance collided in the Fusion effect, two heroes bound together by a thread of shared history merged, erupting into a radiance that cut through the darkness hanging over the Supreme King's Castle.
"Overlapping HERO bonds, standing before the endless dark to call forth the shining miracle!"
"Double Fusion, bonds intertwined! Step aside, Dark Supreme King!"
"Fusion Summon! Elemental HERO Shining Neos Wingman!"

The luminous wings of the final Fusion tore through the endless dark above the Supreme King's Castle, born from the combination of two heroes whose bond was the whole point.
Elemental HERO Shining Neos Wingman landed on Amano's field, and in that landing it gathered every soul of every HERO born in this duel.
Amano slammed the Fusion card onto his Duel Disk. "Elemental HERO Shining Neos Wingman will gather every bond sleeping in this Graveyard!"

Amano raised his Duel Disk and opened the Graveyard, displaying every monster that had fought in this duel. Countless HERO souls aligned in that moment behind Shining Neos Wingman, channeling their strength forward.
And it was not only the HEROs. Because the ATK boost counted every monster in the Graveyard without restriction, the wills of Fallen of Albaz and Alba-Lenatus the Abyss Dragon were part of it too.
"It won't matter." Watching Flame Wingman and Neos combine, the Supreme King's expression had shifted again, fractionally. But the dark power still drove forward. "No matter how high your ATK climbs, as long as Evil HERO Dark Gaia is on my field, every monster you control loses 3700 ATK!"
"I'll sweep that darkness away with this shining bond!" Amano declared the monster's next effect. "Not just the Graveyard's strength, the monsters on the field add their power to Shining Neos Wingman too!"

"Three different Attributes on the field. I can destroy three of your cards!"
"Come on then, Supreme King Jaden! 'Shining Flash - Neos Wing Slash'!"
"I see. So that is what you were building toward." The Supreme King lowered his head and let out a short, cold laugh. "Then I will admit it. You pulled it off, Amano Rei."
"You successfully drew out the ultimate fusion power."
The Supreme King could not stand by and watch Shining Neos Wingman's destruction effect go through unchallenged. If Amano was not making a deliberate mistake, the three destruction targets would obviously include the face-down Super Polymerization.
"I chain Elemental HERO Shining Neos Wingman's effect and activate my set card!"
The Supreme King pulled the card from his Spell/Trap Zone and raised it high above his head.
"Witness it! The ultimate, supreme Fusion! A wave that transcends even dimensional boundaries! Strongest and most invincible, release the ultimate power! Quick-Play Spell, Super Polymerization!"

Unlike Fallen of Albaz's Fusion, which could be responded to: the uncounterable Quick-Play effect, the true power capable of fusing everything on the field, erupted from the card in the Supreme King's fingertips.
In that instant, it was as though the entire world shook, dimensional space twisting into a spiral of chaos.
"Is this the legendary Super Polymerization?" Finesse fought to keep her footing on the violently trembling bridge. "The energy packed into that one Spell Card rivals a god... no, it's even greater than a god?"
"We're finished!" Sho had long since lost the ability to keep his legs under him and had gone down hard. "With Jaden pulling out that card, there's no way to win now!"
This was, after all, the Super Polymerization that could theoretically fuse even the Duelists themselves. In that moment Amano felt something that could only be described as a pull on his own soul.
Eve: "Amano, we'll hold your body and soul together as best we can and soften the effect of Super Polymerization as much as possible!"
Mana: "By the way, Eve, you've been suspiciously absent this entire duel."
Eve: "Obviously. I know better than to barge into a HERO duel between two men. Which means you absolutely cannot lose just because I wasn't there, Amano!"
In that moment, the Supreme King may have genuinely attempted to fuse Amano's soul. Most likely only in a passing, exploratory way. When he sensed that Amano's soul was more resolute than expected, he abandoned the idea immediately.
Winning this final battle against Amano Rei as a Duelist mattered more to the Supreme King now than anything else.
But even if Amano himself escaped that fate, the supreme, unstoppable power of Super Polymerization still erased everything on Amano's field.
"A HERO bond Fusion? Even that HERO bond will fall to darkness before the greatest ultimate power!"
The Supreme King stood at the center of the ultimate Fusion storm, arm sweeping forward. "I use Elemental HERO Shining Neos Wingman and Elemental HERO Core from your field as Fusion Materials for Super Polymerization!"
Both of the remaining HEROs on Amano's field were forcibly torn away and pulled into the ultimate Fusion vortex.
"From the ultimate Fusion is born a dark new cosmos, dyeing heaven and earth in a black universe of stars!"
"Command the supreme power, come forth!"
"Super Polymerization, Fusion Summon! Evil HERO Neos Lord!"

As the ultimate Fusion light faded from the field, Finesse's silver-gray eyes widened in shock. "That, that monster is... Neos? It looks almost like..."
Albaz: "Supreme King!"
Clad in black Supreme King armor, Evil HERO Neos Lord radiated an overwhelming authority that surpassed every HERO that had come before it, and stepped forward one measured pace at a time onto the Supreme King's field.
"You have no more chances to win, Rei. Before this supreme, ultimate Evil HERO, none of your summons will reverse the situation!"
"But my effects haven't finished resolving!" Amano called out immediately.
Super Polymerization could not be chained against. But the Supreme King had chained Super Polymerization to Amano's already-activated effect.
That meant after Super Polymerization resolved, the destruction effect from Elemental HERO Shining Neos Wingman, which had already been activated, still resolved even with Shining Neos Wingman no longer on the field.
However, because Shining Neos Wingman had been used as Fusion Material and left the field, the LIGHT Attribute was no longer present among the field's monsters. The destruction count dropped from three cards to two.
"Fine by me!" the Supreme King said, confident.

Even if Amano held to Shining Neos Wingman's destruction effect, Evil HERO Neos Lord's built-in immunity meant it would not be destroyed.
"I said I would sweep this darkness away with the shining bond!"
Amano's two destruction targets. The first blade of light left behind by Shining Neos Wingman drove through Evil HERO Dark Gaia's chest and shattered it.
And the second target Amano chose:
The second shining blade tore across the dark sky and buried itself deep in the Supreme King's Castle behind the Supreme King.
"What." The massive, dark, warped Supreme King's Castle crumbled apart, and the Supreme King turned his head slightly to watch it fall.
Amano thrust his arm forward toward the collapsing darkness. "The card I chose to destroy is the Field Spell Supreme King's Castle! As your closest friend, I will not let this darkness keep holding you here, Jaden Yuki!"

The Supreme King had expected Amano to use Shining Neos Wingman's remaining destruction target on another Evil HERO, or on the remaining face-down card.
Instead: Supreme King's Castle.
In a situation where the field was almost entirely in the Supreme King's favor, Supreme King's Castle's ATK-boost effect during combat was essentially irrelevant at this point.
Supreme King's Castle was, more than anything, a symbol.
Just to honor that symbol. Just to pry open Jaden Yuki's closed heart even a little inside all this endless darkness: that was what Amano spent the last destruction on?
Before the crumbling ruins of the black castle, the Supreme King's cold gold eyes held something that was no longer entirely cold.
But it was not enough. Jaden knew that. And Amano knew it too.
Without winning the duel, nothing would change.
The Supreme King raised his hand. "When Evil HERO Dark Gaia leaves the field by the opponent's card, I activate its effect!"

Once again the Supreme King had Dark Fusion in hand. As in the previous turn, Amano and the Supreme King had simultaneously activated Infernal Rider's and Blazeman's effects, each picking up the Fusion Spell that belonged to their respective sides.
Amano now had two cards in hand: the one drawn at the start of this turn, and the Polymerization retrieved by the effect.
There was no choice but to stake everything on that card.
Amano activated the card he had drawn this turn. "Spell Card, Dark Factory of Mass Production! I recover 2 Normal Monsters from my Graveyard to my hand!"
Those two Normal Monsters would be the Fusion Materials.
"From my Graveyard, I retrieve Elemental HERO Avian and Elemental HERO Burstinatrix!"
The Supreme King's eyes narrowed slightly. "Avian and Burstinatrix. When?"
When had Burstinatrix gone to the Graveyard? Two turns back, when Amano had captured the Supreme King's Graceful Charity through Final Scheme and activated it himself, the two cards Amano had discarded included Burstinatrix.
The moment the Supreme King understood Amano's play, the corner of his mouth moved upward. "The same choice, was it? Then, Rei: with that last Fusion, what new HERO will you create? Show me."
"No new HERO needed. Let's go back to that one, Jaden. Our very first HERO!"
"Our first?"
Amano raised the Fusion card from his hand, with Elemental HERO Avian and Elemental HERO Burstinatrix as the Materials.
"Even if it is a foolish memory, it is our eternally beloved HERO!"
"I Fuse Elemental HERO Avian and Elemental HERO Burstinatrix!"
"Fusion Summon! Elemental HERO Flame Wingman!"

The last Fusion Card Amano played produced not some other HERO, not an evolved form of Flame Wingman.
It was the original: the purest version, made from Elemental HERO Avian and Elemental HERO Burstinatrix, the original Elemental HERO Flame Wingman.
"Flame Wingman!" The castle had fallen and now the original Flame Wingman had been called. The determination in Amano to pull Jaden Yuki out of the darkness came through in every move he made, and both the Supreme King and the buried Jaden felt it with equal clarity.
Perhaps with Flame Wingman's burn effect, destroying a monster and dealing damage equal to that monster's ATK, there was still a path to clearing the Supreme King's remaining 1400 LP.
But before the supreme, ultimate Evil HERO Neos Lord, every Fusion was futile.
"Before this supreme, ultimate Evil HERO, your summons have no chance of turning this around! Evil HERO Neos Lord's effect activates!"

Amano's hand was completely empty. Even the last Fusion HERO had been pulled into the darkness by Neos Lord.
Amano's field was empty. The Supreme King's field, by contrast, was filled with five monsters.
"I still have one set card. Calling it over right now is too soon, Jaden!"
But what Amano activated was not his last set card. It was an effect hiding in the Graveyard.
When the Supreme King had activated Graceful Charity and Amano captured it via Final Scheme and used it himself, the two cards discarded from Amano's hand included Burstinatrix as one. And the other was:
"I activate the Graveyard effect of the Trap Card, Transaction Rollback!"

Copying a card's effect through Transaction Rollback required no cost of its own. So no hand discard was needed, and even with zero cards in hand, the effect could still be activated.
"I Set the Continuous Trap DNA Surgery from my Graveyard to my field and activate it immediately!"
Changing every monster's Type at the last possible moment. Every set card Amano had played, every Fusion he had made, every move of this entire duel: all of it had been leading to this.
The Supreme King: "Changing every monster's Type? Dragon again?"
"No." Amano declared. "The Type I'm declaring is Warrior!"
Every Evil HERO's Fiend type flipped to Warrior in an instant.
Under the uncomprehending stares of the Supreme King and everyone watching, Amano flipped open the very last set card on his field.
"You called this style of mine cheap, didn't you, Supreme King?"
But Amano clearly remembered: the first time Jaden had seen him duel, he had stared with a face full of excitement and said exactly this: "That is seriously cool!"
"Give me my best friend back! Supreme King!"
"Trap Card, Grave Robber, activate! I copy the effect of one Spell or Trap Card in your Graveyard!"
"The card I'm copying is: Super Polymerization!"
"What!"
For the first time in this entire duel, the Supreme King's gold eyes registered genuine, visible shock. In that moment he looked more purely human than at any point before.
At the same time, Amano felt the greatest and most invincible ultimate fusion power arrive in his hand.
One more note: when copying a card's effect, no cost needs to be paid again. Even activating Super Polymerization required no hand discard.
"Release the ultimate power!"
Feeling Super Polymerization's power in his hands, even Amano could only marvel at it: this terrifying force that could fuse even dimensions themselves was genuinely a thing of infinite possibility.
"I will Fuse every HERO on your field, Supreme King!"
The ultimate fusion power Amano released was even more overwhelming than what the Supreme King himself had used moments ago. The Supreme King had fused two of Amano's monsters. Amano turned it around and Super Fused the Supreme King's entire board in a single sweep.
"I use Elemental HERO Flame Wingman, Evil HERO Neos Lord, Evil HERO Fallen Claw, Evil HERO Sinister Necrom, and Evil HERO Infernal Rider as Fusion Materials! Super Polymerization!"
The ultimate Fusion storm that could genuinely merge heaven and earth obliterated the Supreme King's entire field. Before the vortex that seemed to pull the entire world into it, even the Supreme King's black armor was drawn in by the gravitational force.
Inside the howling wind, Jaden's own original hair swayed free.
"Let this card end this HERO duel, Jaden! Supreme King!"
This monster needed no summoning chant. Because the card's very name was the embodiment of everything Amano felt in this moment.
"Super Polymerization, Fusion Summon!"
"Awaken, Your Slumbering Elemental HERO!"

The final Fusion HERO to arrive on Amano's field was not, precisely speaking, a single HERO.
Because when the Super Polymerization light cleared, what appeared on Amano's field was all of the Elemental HEROs.
"What kind of Fusion Monster is this!" Finesse stared with her mouth open. "So many... so many HEROs!"
The Fusion Material requirement: 1 Elemental HERO Fusion Monster plus one or more Warrior-Type monsters.
After Amano's DNA Surgery changed every Evil HERO to Warrior-Type, using Elemental HERO Flame Wingman as the core Elemental HERO Fusion Monster, the final Super Polymerization fused the Supreme King's entire board.
The Supreme King's pupils shook. He could no longer hold back what had been sealed inside him. He looked at the assembly of figures on Amano's field.
"Neo Bubbleman, Dark Neos, Wildedge, Hero Kid, Shining Flare Wingman..."
Only a handful of them appeared on the card's face, but the projections spreading out from Amano's field reflected every single HERO Jaden had ever used.
"Your old friends all came to bring you home, Jaden!"
Surrounded by the crowd of HEROs, Amano swept his arm forward, declared the effect, and entered the Battle Phase.
"The effect of Awaken, Your Slumbering Elemental HERO!"

At Amano's direct attack command, the assembled HEROs surged forward as one, each channeling their own finishing move.
"I flip my set Trap Card!"
The gold eyes seemed in that moment to be shifting toward a color that had once been the color of Jaden Yuki's soul. But the Supreme King still flipped the last card on his field.
"Trap Card, Necro Fusion, activate!"
This was the second Necro Fusion in this duel. With Supreme King's Castle gone, the Supreme King performed a Fusion Summon outside of Dark Fusion at the very end.
Albaz, his voice tense: "With Supreme King's Castle gone, Dark Fusion is off the table. What monster can the Supreme King Fusion Summon now that would match more than 4000 ATK?"
Without Supreme King's Castle's backing, even an Evil HERO could not clear 4000 ATK.
"Let this Fusion decide it between us, Rei!"
The Supreme King's Duel Disk ejected two Fusion Materials from the Graveyard: Elemental HERO Avian and Elemental HERO Burstinatrix.
"When?" Amano had thought Avian had gone back to the Deck through Dark Contact's effect at the very beginning of the duel.
It was the card the Supreme King had discarded for Super Polymerization. That was Avian.
So when the Supreme King learned that Amano had discarded Burstinatrix through his captured Graceful Charity, that was why he had said that strange line: "The same choice, was it?"
It really was the same.
The Supreme King's original Avian also stepped onto the stage of this final battle Fusion.
"Perhaps you are right, Rei. Even if it is a foolish memory, it is our eternally beloved HERO!"
"Come! Fusion Summon! Favorite HERO Flame Wingman!"

The monster standing on the Supreme King's field at the very end was not an Evil HERO.
It was a Favorite HERO.
The two HEROs charged at each other with everything they had, and while Favorite HERO Flame Wingman's ATK came up slightly short, it did not simply go down.
"Favorite HERO Flame Wingman's effect! When attacking a monster with 2200 or more ATK during the attack declaration, this card gains 1000 ATK!"

One last time, Jaden raised the black-armored Duel Disk of the Supreme King, and declared the effect of a card in his Graveyard.
"The effect of Evil HERO Fallen Claw in my Graveyard activates! This effect can only be used once per Duel!"
