Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 - Three against two

After all the members of Team Kaos had gathered and been introduced to the newest member, Chris

They began discussing the latest news—particularly what had happened with those from the Fauvism and how they had targeted Jayden this time.

Merrick leaned forward with a concerned expression.

"But Jayden, didn't you say you were extremely careful not to be discovered?"

Jayden : " Yes but unfortunately, I was wrong."

Chris : " Don't you recall anyone who might've suspected you were an Heir to a wonder stone?"

Jayden fell silent for a moment, then shook his head.

"No… there's no one in particular I suspect."

Sony : " Ugh, that's a problem."

Merrick : " That means you'll have to stay here with Tristan since you're both being targeted."

Jayden rolled his eyes.

"Great. Tristan's going to bore me to death."

Tristan crossed his arms.

"Do you take me for a clown here to entertain you or something?"

Merrick : " Enough, both of you. The point of keeping you away is to avoid more problems. Train together if you must, instead of arguing like children."

Tristan : "Fine, but it's obvious I'm stronger."

Jayden : " You're dreaming. I'm clearly the stronger one."

" We'll see when we spar."

Merrick : " Anyway, listen up, all of you. Be cautious and protect those close to you. From what I've seen, the bastards from the Fauvism are using cheap tricks."

Everyone nodded.

"Understood."

Each team member returned home that evening with a heavy sense of unease, all aware that they must hide the fact they were Heirs to wonder stones. Being discovered would make them targets and worse, it might put their loved ones in danger too.

Luna and Yuna decided to return to their family home to check on the rest of their family. They knocked on the door and Samantha opened it.

Samantha gasped in surprise.

"Luna! Yuna!"

Luna : " Surprise!"

"What brings you two here? I thought you had studies these days?"

Yuna : " We just wanted to check on you, Mom."

"Very nice , come in."

The twins entered and immediately their younger brother and sister rushed to hug them, followed by their father.

Frodo chuckled.

"So, what's the occasion for your sudden visit?"

Yuna : " We just wanted to make sure you were all okay."

"Even with exams coming up?"

Luna : " You're more important than any exam."

Samantha : " Well then, I'll prepare the most delicious soup you've ever had!"

"I thought you'd say you were baking us a cake, not making soup."

Yuna :" Hey, be nice!"

Rosalia, their younger sister, perked up.

"Cake sounds good! Let's do that!"

Samantha : "It's fine, Yuna. You and Rosalia can bake a cake and I'll make the soup too."

Yuna : "Alright, then let's bake something amazing!"

The three girls started looking up recipes to prepare a delicious cake to celebrate the twins' surprise visit.

While baking with Rosalia, Yuna's phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and saw Liam's number. Smiling, she answered.

"Good evening, Liam! How are—"

But a different voice answered, cold and unfamiliar.

"He's not here."

Yuna's expression darkened, her voice sharp.

"Who are you, and why do you have Liam's phone?"

"Ah, sorry if I startled you," the voice said mockingly. "I'll hang up."

"Wait! Just tell me who you are and what you want!"

"All I want is for you and your twin to come to the intersection of Twelfth and Fifth Street—close to Liam's house. Do that and we'll return your precious friend unharmed."

"Fine," Yuna snapped. "Just don't hurt him. I want to hear his voice to make sure he's okay."

"Alright."

She heard footsteps, then Liam's muffled voice.

"Who are you? Where am I? Take off this blindfold!"

Then the man's voice returned.

"Satisfied?"

Yuna clenched her fist.

"Yes."

"Then fulfill your part of the deal and we'll send Liam home safely. Don't ask about what we want with you."

"Fine."

The line went dead.

Back in the kitchen, Luna noticed Yuna's suddenly tense expression and walked over to her.

"Hey, Ros, can you finish this on your own?"

Rosalia pouted.

"Seriously ? First Yuna walks off and now you too? We were supposed to bake together!"

Samantha : " It's alright, Ros. I'll help you finish it. Don't forget they haven't visited in a while. Let's treat them well."

Luna smiled.

"Listen to Mom, Ros."

Although still annoyed, Rosalia nodded and continued baking with Samantha.

Luna took Yuna aside and asked,

"What's wrong?"

Yuna's voice was tense.

"It's Liam. He's been kidnapped."

"What?!"

Yuna explained everything—how he'd been taken and the conditions for his release. Their joyful day had suddenly turned into a nightmare. But they hid their emotions from their family, not wanting to cause them worry.

After enjoying the cake with forced smiles and spending a bit more time with the family, the twins made an excuse about exams and left.

Once far from the house, Luna used her teleportation powers, gripping Yuna's hand, to jump repeatedly until they reached Liam's home. But it was empty—no sign of Liam, his mother, or his little sister.

Yuna surveyed the chaos inside.

"The place has clearly been ransacked. Why didn't the neighbors call the police?"

Luna narrowed her eyes.

"Either the Red Hands gang paid off the police… or it's the Fauvism's doing. And no one dares interfere with them."

"Damn them!"

The two girls left the house without returning to their university flat. They had other plans.

The next day, the twins arrived at the specified location—a deserted intersection. It was quiet, too quiet.

Then they felt it. The unmistakable pressure of three Heirs approaching.

Three men emerged, slowly advancing toward them. Their appearance was menacing, their weapons terrifying—a sword, a scythe, and a barbed whip. Yet the twins showed no fear.

Luna stepped forward.

"Where's Liam?"

One of the men sneered.

"Relax. We returned your lover boy and his family this morning."

"How thoughtful. So, is this a surprise party or something?"

"Not quite. We're here to kill you."

The men drew their weapons.

Luna and Yuna exchanged bored glances, yawning.

The men hesitated.

"Why aren't they scared?" one muttered.

"No idea. They're freaks."

The third man snapped,

"Enough talk. Let's kill them and claim the stone's power from whichever one of them has it!"

The barbed whip user ignited his weapon with fire and lunged at them. But Luna instantly raised a pressure barrier around herself and Yuna, blocking the attack. Then, with a flicker, she vanished—teleporting behind him and striking his head with her staff.

He collapsed.

The scythe-wielder charged her, his weapon crackling with lightning.

"You're annoying," Luna growled, eyes blazing.

She used her bone separator technique in his legs. He fell, bleeding profusely.

His companion screamed in horror, rushing to help—but Yuna shot an ice arrow that struck his shoulder and froze it. He burned away the ice and attacked her with a flaming sword. She deflected his blade with her bow then dodged his punch.

Unfazed, she raised her shield, blocking his next strike. The man blinked.

"You're using two weapons?! That's not possible! And you're both Heirs? Twins can't both inherit... unless—one of you inherited through blood, and the other through transfer?"

Yuna smirked.

"Nice guess. You know your rules."

"Answer me!" he shouted.

"Shut up."

She used ice Dismantling, freezing and shattering his arm. As he screamed, she kicked him in the face then walked toward him. He slashed at her, but she blocked it with her shield. He hurled a fireball, which she dispelled with water . Then he lunged—grazing her stomach.

Enraged, Yuna shocked him with lightning power

The man staggered back in disbelief—she had used two weapons and two elements. He didn't even bother asking anymore.

She shattered his remaining limbs with ice and stood over him saying

Yuna : "So it's fine when others suffer, but not when it's you? That's a little selfish."

"Damn you," he groaned.

She kicked him in the face until he passed out.

Meanwhile, Luna faced the other two. The whip user attacked again but she caught his whip with her staff and pulled it toward her, punching him with sound-infused energy. Though he blocked with a fire shield, she broke through and struck him down.

The scythe user, still bleeding, sent a lightning bolt at her but she deflected it with a wind tornado. He hit her with the whip—but she retaliated with her fire-imbued star weapon, landing a critical hit to his chest.

"You're more annoying than Tristan," she muttered, teleporting behind him and slamming him unconscious with her staff.

The whip user released all his fire at her in a final desperate move. Luna countered with her own flames and sonic waves.

[ Note: Even if two Heirs share the same element, their power still harms each other.]

Back in the scene: Luna's sonic wave dissipated his flames, and her fire sent him flying. She approached.

Luna : "Three grown men attacking two girls? That's harsh."

The man coughed.

"We thought only one of you had the stone..."

"I'm tired of that question."

She knocked him out with her staff.

The battle was over. Luna and Yuna stood over the unconscious bodies.

Luna turned to Yuna saying to her

"We need to inform the team and interrogate these bastards."

"And check on Liam, too."

"Right."

At Liam's house, he awoke in bed, dazed. His mother and sister were chatting in the kitchen.

"Liam! You're awake!" his mother said, rushing over.

Liam : "Yeah… but I don't feel right."

She placed a hand on his forehead.

"Of course, my dear," his mother said gently, "we were all kidnapped by unknown men and held hostage for two whole days."

"I know," Liam replied. "And we still don't even understand why they did it. It's not like we have any wealthy relatives or friends they could threaten into paying a ransom or anything like that."

"You're right," she said with a sigh. "But what I truly don't understand is why the police didn't intervene. I asked the neighbors, and they said they did report it."

Liam fell silent, his mind drifting into thought. He recalled something he had come across earlier while gathering intel to help the twins—this kind of operation matched the tactics of the Red Hands Organization. Could it really be them?

His mother noticed the distant look in his eyes. "Are you alright? You seem distracted."

Liam blinked and quickly composed himself. "Yes, I'm fine. I just need a glass of water—I'm a little thirsty."

"Alright, sit down. I'll get you one," she offered kindly.

He sat down and she handed him a glass of water. As he drank, his thoughts swirled in chaos. If his suspicions were correct, then they were in real danger. The Red Hands were no ordinary group—and he knew he couldn't protect himself from them, let alone others.

So what was he going to do now?
