Chapter 40 - Chapter 40- The pack will decide

The Red Moon Pack Assembly Hall was large.

Modern.

Elegant.

Glass walls allowed moonlight to enter the circular building.

Pack members sat in curved rows of seats.

Talking quietly.

Watching.

Waiting.

Hazel stood beside Ryan at the front of the hall.

She wore a simple dark silver dress.

Nothing royal.

Nothing overly commanding.

But the mark on her wrist was hidden beneath the fabric.

Ryan stood very still beside her.

Alpha presence.

Controlled.

Unbreakable.

Liam stood slightly behind them.

Annabelle sat in the first row with Nick beside her.

Klara stood quietly near the pack council members.

Sera was present too.

Hazel noticed the atmosphere immediately.

Not welcoming.

Not hostile.

Suspicious.

Ryan spoke first.

"Today," he said calmly, voice carrying across the hall,

"we gather to acknowledge Hazel McCall as a protected member of Red Moon Territory."

Murmurs spread instantly.

Not loud.

But sharp.

Hazel felt it.

Pack politics.

Status judgment.

One of the older male wolves stood up slowly.

"Alpha," he said respectfully,

"she is human-born."

Another woman spoke.

"She does not carry wolf blood dominance aura."

Someone else added quietly:

"She is not suitable to stand beside an Alpha."

The hall became tense.

Hazel's jaw tightened slightly.

Ryan did not interrupt immediately.

He was letting them speak.

Testing the pack.

A middle-aged wolf council member stood.

"We do not oppose protecting her," he said carefully,

"but Luna status is different."

Hazel's fingers tightened slightly at her sides.

Luna.

They had already started thinking about it.

But Ryan had not formally declared anything.

The council member continued.

"We do not believe she can lead pack females."

Another voice added:

"She looks fragile."

Hazel's expression did not change.

But inside—

Anger stirred.

Ryan spoke quietly.

"You are speaking based on incomplete information."

Silence fell.

The council member replied respectfully.

"Alpha, you have not revealed her power."

Ryan nodded slowly.

"That is correct."

Murmurs spread again.

One young wolf spoke boldly.

"How can we accept her as future Luna if we don't know what she is capable of?"

Another said:

"She may attract hunters to our territory."

Hazel felt the words cut slightly.

Ryan spoke again.

"You will not judge her by appearance."

His voice lowered slightly.

"You will judge her by strength."

Silence.

Then Sera stood up.

Everyone recognized her.

Strong female warrior presence.

"She fought Hunters outside territory," Sera said.

"She survived Devourer observation."

Pack members exchanged looks.

But some were still unconvinced.

An older wolf woman spoke.

"Survival is not leadership."

Ryan said quietly:

"Then we will test her."

Hazel turned slightly toward him.

Test.

Interesting.

The council members nodded cautiously.

"What test?" someone asked.

Ryan looked at Hazel.

Not forcing.

Not commanding.

Just waiting.

Hazel understood immediately.

This was her choice.

Slowly, she stepped forward.

"The pack can choose," she said calmly.

"If I fail, I leave."

The hall went quiet.

Her voice continued.

"But if I pass…"

Her eyes hardened slightly.

"You will accept me without question."

Murmurs again.

Ryan's eyes darkened slightly.

Hazel was negotiating like an Alpha heir already.

The council members looked at each other.

Then the elder wolf spoke.

"Prove your strength."

Hazel nodded once.

She closed her eyes slowly.

The mark on her wrist glowed faintly beneath the fabric.

Wind began moving inside the hall.

Slow.

Controlled.

The air pressure shifted.

Some pack members straightened slightly.

Hazel raised one hand.

The glass wall behind the assembly hall cracked slightly—not breaking, but forming controlled spiderweb energy fractures.

Gasps filled the hall.

The older wolves' eyes widened.

Ryan's expression remained calm.

Hazel lowered her hand.

Silence.

Then she said quietly:

"I am not here to take your pack."

"I am here because your Alpha decided I belong here."

Her eyes moved briefly to Ryan.

Then back to the council.

"If you want me to be Luna…"

Her voice lowered.

"You will learn to respect me first."

The hall was completely silent.

After several seconds—

Sera spoke.

"She is strong enough."

Annabelle smiled faintly.

Nick nodded once.

Liam remained expressionless.

The elder wolf slowly sat down.

Acceptance was not total.

But it had begun.

Ryan spoke finally.

"The pack will observe her progress."

Not force.

Not declaration.

But authority.

Hazel stepped back beside him.

The ceremony ended quietly.

But pack members were still watching her.

Some respectfully.

Some skeptically.

Some fearfully.

And deep inside the Red Moon Territory…

The first crack of political war had just begun.
