Chapter 82 - Chapter 82 - The First Shadow Attack

The forest surrounding the Red Moon mansion was unnaturally still that night. Hazel's Luna senses prickled—every nerve alert. The shadows that had been lurking at the edges earlier had grown bolder, moving closer. Her heartbeat quickened, the Devourer energy within her stirring faintly.

Ryan noticed immediately. "Stay close," he commanded, dark eyes scanning the perimeter. Ralph, Blade, and Venom simmered beneath his aura, restrained only by his iron control. "We've got company," he said quietly.

Hazel instinctively moved closer to him, feeling the tether of their claim, even without marking. The unspoken bond reassured her, yet a thrill ran through her at being so near him.

The first wave of attackers emerged from the treeline—rogues, their auras twisted, intent clear: Hazel was their target.

"Pack, positions!" Ryan barked. The Red Moon warriors, fully trained and armed, surged forward. Liam and Klara led a flank, Nick and Bella covered the rear, and Sera stayed near Hazel, shielding her as best she could.

Hazel's Devourer instincts flared. She didn't yet understand the full extent of her powers, but she could feel the energy of the attackers, the subtle pull of danger. Without thinking, she raised her hands, instinctively channeling a protective barrier around the younger pack members and those who could not fight.

The air shimmered with energy as Hazel's aura flared brightly, visible even in the moonlight. Some rogues stumbled back, disoriented by the sheer force of her presence.

Ryan moved like a shadow, lethal and precise. Ralph lunged at a rogue advancing toward Hazel, tearing them off the path. Blade flashed, slicing cleanly through another, and Venom flared, paralyzing a third. Each move kept Hazel safe while signaling the strength of the Alpha's claim.

Hazel felt the pull of adrenaline, her heart racing as she realized her role. She wasn't just a claimed mate anymore—she was part of the pack, part of the defense.

Nick's calm voice whispered beside her. "Focus, Hazel. Use your senses. Let Ryan guide you, but don't be afraid to act."

Hazel nodded, the weight of responsibility settling on her shoulders. She moved with precision, directing injured pack members toward the healers—including Doctor Rose and the nurses—who had set up a temporary triage near the mansion.

By the time the attackers were subdued, Hazel was breathing hard, her aura still flickering faintly, her hair slightly disheveled. Ryan's dark eyes never left her, his expression a mix of pride and warning.

"You did well," he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from her face. Hazel's cheeks flushed, heat spreading through her at the intimate gesture, even though it was purely protective.

Hazel swallowed, trying to steady herself. "I… I wasn't sure I could," she admitted, voice low.

Ryan's lips curved slightly, eyes smoldering. "You are mine. You will always be mine. And I will make sure no one doubts it."

The pack rallied around them, warriors tending to the injured, healers moving efficiently, and Hazel felt a surge of belonging—and the undeniable pull of being claimed and protected.

As the night settled, Hazel glanced at the forest edge, knowing this was only the beginning. The Eclipse Heir prophecy had drawn attention, and the world outside the mansion's walls was already testing her limits.

Yet, for the first time, Hazel realized something thrilling: she could stand with Ryan, fight with the pack, and survive—and no one could take her from him.
