Chapter 25 - Secrets the moon never Told

The night was unnaturally still.

No wind. No insects. Not even the distant echo of the world beyond their camp. Fenrik Hayashi stood beneath the pale moonlight, the Wolf Slayer Axe planted beside him, its blade reflecting a faint silver glow. Ever since the fall of Azrath of Gratherna, the weapon had felt… different. Heavier. More aware.

Around him, the others gathered in silence.

Taro Hyun leaned against a stone pillar, the Tiger Reaper Scythe resting across his back. Kaizen Ryu stood slightly apart, arms crossed, eyes fixed on the horizon as if he were listening to something none of them could hear.

Then the air shifted.

The Sage appeared.

"This gathering is long overdue," the Sage said calmly. "You have survived a Devil. That alone places you beyond ordinary warriors. But survival does not mean understanding."

Fenrik straightened. "You mean our weapons."

The Sage nodded.

The Truth of Chosen Weapons

"You believe your weapons chose you," the Sage continued. "That is only half the truth."

The Wolf Slayer Axe trembled faintly at his words.

"These weapons were not forged merely for battle," the Sage said. "They are fragments of intent—concepts given form. They awaken in stages, responding not only to strength, but to growth, loss, and resolve."

Taro's eyes narrowed. "So what we've seen so far… isn't their full power?"

"No," the Sage replied. "Not even close."

He gestured toward Fenrik.

"The Wolf Slayer Axe carries the instinct of the hunt. It does not simply cut—it remembers. Each enemy you face, each near-death moment, sharpens its awareness. The fur forming along its blade is not decoration. It is the first sign of its true nature awakening."

Fenrik swallowed hard.

Then the Sage turned to Taro.

"The Tiger Reaper Scythe is not a weapon of rage," he said. "It is a weapon of judgment. Its edge grows sharper not when you strike wildly, but when you choose when not to. Restraint will unlock its deeper form."

Taro exhaled slowly. "So hesitation isn't weakness."

"Correct," the Sage said. "Against what comes next, hesitation may save you."

Kaizen Ryu did not speak, but the Sage's gaze lingered on him longer than the others.

"And some weapons," the Sage added quietly, "do not awaken through explanation… but through remembrance."

Kaizen's eyes flickered.

Realms Beyond Gratherna

The Sage raised his staff, and the ground beneath them shimmered. A projection formed—three vast symbols rotating slowly.

"Gratherna," he said, pointing to the first. "A realm of abyss and dominance. Azrath ruled through force."

The symbol shifted.

"Creldoster," the Sage continued. "A fractured realm where spies, shadows, and corrupted watchers move freely between worlds."

Then the final symbol emerged—dark, empty, and wrong.

"Forvogera."

The name alone made the air feel thinner.

"Forvogera is not a realm of destruction," the Sage said. "It is a realm of absence. Light bends there. Sound dies. Space folds inward. And from that silence comes its Devil."

Fenrik felt a chill crawl up his spine. "Malzareon…"

"Yes," the Sage replied.

"Malzareon, the Void Serpent—Devil of Forvogera."

The Void Serpent

"He does not conquer," the Sage continued. "He erases. Malzareon feeds on power itself—magic, momentum, even intent. Against him, reckless strength becomes nothing."

Lyra clenched her fists. "So our abilities—"

"—will weaken if misused," the Sage finished. "This Devil punishes excess."

Kael frowned. "Then how do you fight something that devours power?"

The Sage's eyes shifted back to Fenrik and Taro.

"You fight with control. With unity. And with weapons that understand you."

The Wolf Slayer Axe pulsed once, as if acknowledging the challenge.

A Warning Unspoken

Kaizen finally spoke. "Forvogera isn't moving yet."

The Sage looked at him sharply. "You feel it."

Kaizen nodded. "Malzareon is watching. Measuring."

"That is why you train now," the Sage said. "Once the Void Serpent stirs fully, retreat will no longer be an option."

Fenrik looked at his allies—Aoi, Koharu, Kael, Lyra, Rohan, Jiro, Selene, Nyla, Mikael, Sora. Every one of them had faced death already. Every one of them would face it again.

"Then we don't waste time," Fenrik said firmly. "We train smarter. Together."

The Sage allowed a faint smile.

"The Malzareon arc has begun," he said. "And it will test not how strong you are… but how much of yourselves you are willing to lose."

Far beyond the camp, in a realm where sound did not exist, something vast shifted in the darkness.

And the Void listened.
