Chapter 41 - The world that rejects existence.

The silence did not leave.

Even after the fractured basin sealed, even after the eye vanished, even after the mist withdrew — the world remained heavy.

As if reality itself had been wounded.

Fenrik walked at the front of the group, the Wolf Slayer Axe resting across his shoulder, but the weapon did not feel like metal anymore.

It felt alert.

Alive.

Watching.

The grey fur wrapped around the blade trembled occasionally, reacting to something no one else could sense.

The wolves inside were restless.

Afraid.

The Path That Should Not Exist

They followed the energy trace discovered earlier — a thin invisible line leading deeper into unknown territory.

But the path changed constantly.

Trees shifted positions.

Rocks moved when not observed.

The forest rearranged itself like a living maze.

Rohan stopped suddenly.

"We already passed this tree."

Fenrik looked.

A deep claw mark carved into the trunk.

He recognized it.

His own mark from minutes earlier.

But the direction was wrong.

The forest had rotated.

Not them.

The environment.

Lyra whispered nervously,

"The devil is shaping space around us."

Fenrik shook his head.

"No."

He touched the tree bark.

The surface rippled slightly.

"It's shaping perception."

The world wasn't moving.

Their understanding of it was.

Rule One — Reality Weakens When Observed

Fenrik began testing the environment.

He focused intensely on a distorted rock ahead.

The rock stopped shifting.

Its form stabilized.

When he looked away — it warped again.

Observation restricted distortion.

Another limit.

The devil could not fully control reality under direct awareness.

Fenrik memorized the rule instantly.

The First Manifestation

A low vibration spread through the ground.

Shadows stretched unnaturally long.

From the darkness between trees emerged something incomplete.

A figure.

Not fully physical.

A body composed of fractured space and drifting ash.

Its limbs bent at impossible angles.

Its face constantly rewrote itself.

A servant.

Not the devil.

A projection.

Taro stepped forward instantly.

"Test it."

He attacked.

His scythe cut through the entity — but instead of damage, the space around the strike collapsed, redirecting the attack away.

The creature did not defend.

Reality defended it.

Fenrik observed carefully.

The entity's form flickered whenever struck repeatedly.

Its existence required concentration.

It was not stable.

He moved forward.

One clean strike from the Wolf Slayer Axe.

The wolves within the weapon howled.

The blade cut through distortion itself.

The servant collapsed instantly.

Ash scattered.

Reality stabilized.

Fenrik's eyes narrowed.

"The axe harms conceptual forms."

The wolf spirit inside was a counter to the devil's nature.

That was important.

Very important.

The Breathing Sky

As night fell, the sky changed.

Stars shifted positions slowly.

Constellations bent.

The moon fractured into multiple overlapping images.

Reality was thinning.

Kaizen looked upward calmly.

"It's increasing influence."

Aoi checked her readings.

"The world's structure is weakening closer to the source."

Fenrik realized something terrifying.

The devil wasn't invading their world.

The world was becoming its domain.

The Lost Settlement

Hours later they discovered ruins of a forgotten settlement.

Buildings half-erased.

Walls ending mid-air.

People's statues frozen in moments of confusion — not carved stone, but actual bodies crystallized into still existence.

Not killed.

Paused.

Removed from time.

Fenrik approached one figure.

A child reaching toward the sky.

His hand passed through the body like mist.

The child no longer fully existed.

Reality had rejected him.

Lyra trembled.

"This isn't destruction…"

Fenrik finished the sentence quietly.

"It's conclusion."

Fragments of History

Inside the settlement they discovered ancient writings carved into surviving walls.

Symbols describing a being known only as:

The End That Walks

The Sovereign of Silence

The One Who Decides When Existence Ends

Fenrik read the texts slowly.

The devil had appeared once before.

Long ago.

An entire civilization vanished afterward.

No battle.

No war.

Simply erased.

Pressure of Awareness

As Fenrik read the final inscription —

The air grew heavy.

A crushing presence descended.

He felt something notice him specifically.

The weight of a god's gaze.

The ground cracked beneath his feet.

Reality bent toward him.

Testing his resistance.

Fenrik refused to kneel.

The Wolf Slayer Axe erupted with silver energy.

The wolves roared within his mind.

The pressure weakened.

For the first time—

The devil's authority was resisted.

Far away, something reacted.

Something learned.

Rule Two — Resistance Exists

Fenrik understood.

The devil's power was absolute only against passive existence.

Resistance disrupted its control.

Strong will mattered.

Presence mattered.

Identity mattered.

The Field of Non-Existence

Beyond the settlement lay a region where nothing existed.

No trees.

No ground texture.

No sound.

Just empty space shaped like terrain.

Walking through it felt like stepping between moments of time.

Kael nearly vanished when he lost focus.

Fenrik grabbed him instantly.

Identity anchored existence.

Without awareness — reality rejected them.

This devil did not fight bodies.

It fought existence itself.

The Second Manifestation — Hunter of Presence

The void around them suddenly condensed.

A massive entity formed.

Larger than the first.

A humanoid shape made of fragmented reality.

Its ability was different.

It erased space wherever it walked.

Everything behind it disappeared.

The team fought together.

Kaizen froze it for ten seconds.

Time halted around the creature.

Fenrik attacked.

The Wolf Slayer Axe cut through its core.

The entity collapsed violently.

But during the fight Fenrik noticed something disturbing.

The creature adapted mid-battle.

It learned.

Evolution

Every manifestation grew stronger.

More stable.

More aware.

The devil was evolving through observation.

Learning from each encounter.

Preparing for full emergence.

The Whisper of the Sovereign

As the second servant dissolved, a voice echoed inside Fenrik's mind.

Not language.

Meaning.

"You resist the inevitable."

"Interesting."

The presence withdrew.

But curiosity remained.

Fenrik had attracted the devil's attention.

The Hidden Truth

That night Fenrik sat alone.

He analyzed everything.

Clues formed a pattern:

Reality distortion requires energy buildup.

Observation weakens effect.

Strong will resists authority.

Manifestations evolve through interaction.

The devil seeks stability.

Conclusion:

The devil is not fully born yet.

It needs something.

A catalyst.

A complete form.

The Catastrophic Sign

The next morning the sky split open briefly.

A vertical fracture stretching across the horizon.

Through it they saw another world.

A realm of endless ash.

A throne.

A silhouette sitting upon it.

Watching.

The fracture sealed instantly.

But Fenrik understood.

The devil existed elsewhere.

This was only its emergence.

Fear of the Inevitable

Taro approached Fenrik quietly.

"Can we kill something like that?"

Fenrik did not answer immediately.

He looked at his axe.

The wolves within it stirred with ancient hatred.

"Yes," he finally said.

"But not as we are now."

The Coming Storm

The energy readings spiked violently.

Reality around them trembled.

The devil's presence was stabilizing.

Its emergence accelerating.

Time was running out.

End Scene — The Awakening Begins

Far beneath the fractured world…

Within a realm of endless ash…

A massive form slowly opened its eyes.

Reality around it stabilized.

A voice echoed through existence.

"The hunter approaches."

"The world will end."

The air inside the fractured valley had changed.

Fenrik felt it first.

A strange heaviness pressed against his chest, like the world itself was holding its breath. The ground beneath his boots no longer felt like stone — it pulsed faintly, almost alive, sending subtle vibrations through his body.

He tightened his grip on the Wolf Slayer Axe.

The grey fur wrapped around its handle fluttered slightly, despite the absence of wind.

Something was watching.

Not with eyes.

With presence.

"Do you feel that?" Fenrik whispered.

Behind him, Taro slowly adjusted his Tiger Reaper Scythe. The blade gave off a faint golden hum.

"Yeah," Taro said quietly. "Like something breathing underground."

Kaizen stepped forward, his expression unusually serious. His eyes scanned the terrain — broken pillars of black stone, deep cracks glowing with faint crimson light, and scattered remains of ancient structures half-swallowed by earth.

"This place isn't destroyed," Kaizen said.

"It's infected."

The ground ahead suddenly shifted.

A long fracture opened slowly across the valley floor, releasing a thick wave of dark mist. The mist didn't rise upward — it crawled sideways like a living creature searching for prey.

Fenrik's instincts screamed.

He stepped forward and placed his hand on the ground.

Cold.

But beneath the cold — something burning.

A heartbeat.

Not human.

Not animal.

Something ancient.

"The devil…" Fenrik murmured.

"But it's not here physically."

Taro frowned. "Meaning?"

"It's spreading itself," Fenrik said. "Its power is embedded in the land."

They moved deeper.

Every step revealed more clues.

Stone walls melted like wax. Trees turned into hollow shells. Weapons of fallen hunters lay scattered, completely drained of energy.

No blood.

No bodies.

Only emptiness.

Kaizen knelt beside a shattered blade.

"No signs of battle resistance," he said. "Energy was extracted instantly."

Fenrik watched the weapon closely. The metal had turned pale — almost transparent.

"It consumes essence," Fenrik said slowly.

"Not life… existence."

Suddenly—

A whisper echoed.

Not through ears.

Through mind.

A distant voice speaking in broken fragments.

"…return…"

"…silence…"

"…all forms end…"

Fenrik staggered slightly.

Taro grabbed his shoulder. "What happened?"

"It spoke," Fenrik said, breathing heavily.

Kaizen's eyes narrowed. "So it has consciousness."

The valley darkened further.

The sky above twisted unnaturally, forming slow spirals of black clouds rotating around a central void.

Light itself seemed weaker here.

Even sound moved slower.

They reached the center of the ruined zone.

A massive crater stretched before them, hundreds of meters wide. At its core stood a colossal stone structure resembling a broken throne fused into the earth.

From the throne spread endless black veins across the land.

Each vein pulsed.

Each pulse released waves of corrupt energy.

Fenrik felt his axe react violently.

The wolf fur bristled.

A deep growl echoed from within the weapon.

Not aggression.

Warning.

"This is its source," Fenrik said.

"But it's hiding."

Kaizen stepped forward.

"I can freeze devil energy for ten seconds," he said calmly. "If it manifests even partially, I'll stop it."

Taro nodded. "We force a reaction."

Fenrik approached the throne slowly.

Every step grew heavier.

Visions began flashing inside his mind.

A world collapsing into dust.

Stars extinguishing.

Endless silence swallowing existence.

He gritted his teeth.

"This devil's power…" he whispered.

"It erases."

The moment his axe touched the black stone—

The entire valley trembled violently.

The veins erupted with blinding crimson light.

The throne cracked.

A massive shadow rose from beneath the earth — not a body, not a creature, but a shifting form made of pure darkness.

No face.

No shape.

Only a void consuming everything around it.

Taro immediately raised his scythe.

Kaizen extended his hand.

"Now!"

A freezing wave of cosmic energy burst outward.

Time itself seemed to halt.

The shadow froze mid-manifestation.

Ten seconds.

Fenrik stared at the entity.

For a brief moment, he understood.

This devil wasn't seeking destruction.

It was seeking stillness.

A world without motion.

Without conflict.

Without existence.

Then the freeze shattered.

The shadow retreated instantly back into the earth.

The throne sealed itself.

The valley returned to silence.

All three stood frozen.

Sweat rolled down Fenrik's face.

"That wasn't even its true form," he said.

Kaizen nodded slowly. "That was just a fragment."

Taro exhaled. "We're dealing with something far worse than Malzareon."

Fenrik looked at the Wolf Slayer Axe.

For a moment, he thought he saw glowing wolf eyes within the blade.

Watching.

Waiting.

Counting.

"We don't know its full power yet," Fenrik said.

"But we know enough."

He looked toward the dark horizon.

"It spreads through land."

"It consumes existence."

"And it's waiting for something."

Far beneath the valley…

Deep within the earth…

A colossal eye slowly opened in darkness.Deep beneath the shattered valley, where even light had never reached, something ancient awakened.

The colossal eye opened fully.

It had no pupil. No color. Only endless darkness swirling within itself — like a gateway to nothingness. Around it stretched vast layers of fossilized energy, compressed over ages beyond memory.

The disturbance above had been noticed.

The anomaly had been sensed.

Fenrik.

Above the surface, the air suddenly grew heavier again.

Fenrik dropped to one knee.

A crushing pressure flooded his body, forcing the breath from his lungs. The Wolf Slayer Axe vibrated violently in his hand, its energy resisting an unseen force pressing from all directions.

Taro felt it too.

"What is this gravity—"

His words stopped as the ground beneath them bent inward, as if reality itself was folding.

Kaizen's eyes widened.

"It's observing us."

The black veins spreading from the throne began changing direction.

They moved.

Not randomly.

They crawled toward Fenrik.

"Move!" Kaizen shouted.

Fenrik leaped backward as a spike of condensed darkness erupted from the ground where he had stood. The attack made no sound. It simply erased the space it touched, leaving a hollow distortion in the air.

Taro swung his scythe, releasing a wave of golden energy that struck the spike.

The energy vanished instantly.

Not destroyed.

Consumed.

"That thing doesn't clash," Taro said grimly.

"It deletes."

The ground continued shifting. The entire valley was responding like a living organism protecting its core.

Fenrik steadied himself and closed his eyes.

For a brief moment, he listened.

Not with hearing — with instinct.

The vibrations beneath the earth carried intention. A pattern. A message hidden within the pulses.

This devil wasn't attacking blindly.

It was testing him.

Fenrik opened his eyes.

"It recognizes me," he said quietly.

Kaizen looked at him sharply. "Why you?"

Before Fenrik could answer, the Wolf Slayer Axe released a deep, resonating howl.

The sound spread across the valley like a declaration.

For the first time, the crawling veins stopped.

The pressure weakened.

The invisible gaze retreated slightly.

Silence returned.

But it was no longer empty.

It was cautious.

Watching.

Waiting.

Far below, the massive eye narrowed.

Ancient memories stirred — fragments of a power that once opposed absolute stillness. A force that refused erasure. A will that continued to struggle against the inevitable end.

The wolf.

On the surface, Fenrik stared at his weapon, confused.

"It reacted on its own…"

Taro exhaled slowly. "Your axe challenged it."

Kaizen spoke in a low voice. "No. Something inside your axe did."

A sudden tremor shook the valley again — weaker this time, almost like a warning rather than an attack. The throne released one final pulse before all activity ceased completely.

The devil had withdrawn.

For now.

Fenrik looked toward the dark horizon, unease growing inside him.

"It knows we're here," he said.

"And next time… it won't just observe."

A cold wind finally moved through the valley, carrying faint echoes from the depths below — a silent promise of the conflict yet to come.

Somewhere beneath the earth, the eye closed once more.

But it was no longer sleeping.

It was preparing.
