It wasn't until Suzy guided Adam close to the complex exit that Jenny's voice finally crackled through the walkie-talkie.
"Suzy, can you hear me?"
"Yes, how are things on your end? Why didn't you answer when I called earlier?"
"Things are fine over here, I just didn't hear it earlier. You can come straight out now—there's no one at the guard booth, that guy still hasn't returned."
"Copy that."
Receiving Jenny's update, Suzy stowed the walkie-talkie away.
Moments later, she and Adam arrived at the main gate.
Just as Jenny had reported, the guard booth was completely empty. The security guard stationed here earlier had still not returned. Suzy couldn't shake an uneasy feeling—given the Inner City's strict administration, especially for a high-profile area like this villa complex, leaving a main entry completely unstaffed was highly abnormal.
Still, it didn't matter now. An unmanned gate only made things vastly easier for her.
