Kelechi stared at his namesake with a scowl on his face clearly displeased with something. A look all mothers and fathers knew all too well.
Chiamaka on the other hand stared at him with a warm smile.
Kelechi gave way for Nneka to enter before stepping out and moving towards the couple.
"Uncle good morning." Kelechi greeted with a warm smile as he approached Kelechi's side of the car which was facing him.
"Morning." Kelechi mumbled still giving him that strange look from earlier. He felt that it was odd as he didn't recall doing anything to offend him but he simply brushed the matter off.
"Auntie good morning, you look even more beautiful than last time." Kelechi said, eyes shining with upmost sincerity.
Kelechi who was in the car scoffed and wanted to say something but immediately felt a deep sense of danger. He slowly turned to his wife who was giving a a very 'warm' smile as she looked at him.
"What's wrong dear? Where you about to say something?" She asked with a warm smile and a concerned tone in her voice.
But only Kelechi who knew his wife well saw things differently. He gulped subtly.
"You're mistaken honey. What more could I say if not praise his eyesight haha." He replied laughing awkwardly.
"Auntie do you people really need to leave so soon?" Kelechi asked immediately drawing her attention and swiftly cutting through the tension in the car.
"'Maybe this child isn't so bad.' Kelechi thought as he gave Kelechi a greatful smile. Kelechi saw this but didn't understand, even at that he just smiled back before focusing on his beautiful Auntie.
"We have somewhere to be now dear. Just tell your parents that we'll be back later today okay?" Chiamaka said with a small smile.
"Okay then. Be careful on your way okay?" Kelechi said with a disappointed face yet managed a small smile after hearing the last part.
"Kelechi let's go in okay." Nneka said from the gate. At some point she had come out and was looking at Kelechi with her parents.
She quickly came over and grabbed his arm, pulling him gently towards the gate.
"Bye-bye.See you people later." Kelechi said waving at the couple in the car. Nneka simply turned for a brief moment and gave a casual wave before dragging him inside.
Kelechi felt his eye twitch as he looked at the now closed gate.He immediately harrumphed which earned him a sharp pinch on the waist from his wife.
"Stop acting like a child." She said then chuckled softly at her husband's expression.
"But they're just kids."
"Exactly dear,so don't overthink. Although...I don't quite see it as a bad thing." Chiamaka said with a smile on her face.
"Humph!"
Chiamaka laughed, this time more loudly completely ignoring her husband's expression.
"Why are you behaving like this though? I thought liked the boy?" She asked curiously after laughing, looking at her husband.
"I do. It's just..."
*Sigh!
Chiamaka just looked at his complicated expression and simply scoffed saying one word "Men."
Kelechi sighed once more before turning the ignition on the light blue Toyota land cruiser(100 series) his pride and joy and driving off.
Back in the Egba household...
Nneka still dragging Kelechi's arm opened the front door gently and entered to see his two parents sitting down on the couch watching a TV show on the box TV.
"Uncle, Auntie good morning!" Nneka shouted happily as she immediately let go of Kelechi's arm and ran, throwing herself into the arms of Chioma.
"Morning nwam." Chikodi responded with a soft smile on his face.
"Morning dear, you look well." Chioma said smiling at the girl in her arms.
"By the way...where are your parents?" Chioma asked after Kelechi closed the door behind him.
"Oh,they both had a program to attend and promised to come back later today evening." Nneka said still in Chioma's arms.
The two parents immediately had a look of understanding and nodded.
"Daddy here." Kelechi said handing over the spare keys for the gate.
"Okay." Chikodi said as he immediately accepted them.
With no time to waste the couple with the children immediately headed out after a few minutes off course.
They used the father's black Nissan Pathfinder with the father behind the wheel.
After chikodi locked the gate securely,he then entered the car once more and off they went.
They passed roads and intersections with each poster, signboard and shops said one thing.
Merry Christmas.
At a certain street some shops played the Christmas carousel loudly with both shops and people-some carrying on wheelbarrows and other just selling on the corners of the road- selling Christmas toys like water guns of varying sizes,Santa Claus hats, toy swords that glowed and various other toys with varying sizes and shapes of balloons.
They finally reached the school and there was already a banner with the words" Everbright Nursery And Primary School Christmas Party." Written in bold colourful letters.
They passed the first gates and parked besides a car that belonged to either a parent or a teacher. The parking lot was almost full with various cars, people and the occasional Keke napep.
The two males opened their side of the car doors first and came down.
Kelechi with his bag on his back immediately went over to the other side and opened the door for Nneka, helping her down like a true gentleman.
Chikodi was was lightly stretching by the side saw this and immediately felt his eye twitch. He didn't need to look to confirm that his wife was currently glaring at him.
But before he could do anything Kelechi beat him to it by opening his mother's door as well with a polite gentlemanly smile as he also helped his mother come down.
Chikodi felt a chill down his spine when he saw the look his wife shot him and gulped subtly.
"Wow,such a well mannered child." Some women who passed said as they saw what happened.
'Yeah...such a well mannered and wonderful son.' Chikodi thought sarcastically, eye twitching.
