1 . Meaning of poverty :- poverty in india has been defined as that situation in which an individual fails to earn income sufficient to buy him minimum means of subsistence.
The minimum means of subsistence includes:
> A reasonable satisfaction level of nutritional diet .
>Minimum required clothing , housing and
>Minimum level of health facilities ,clean water and Education.
2 . Poverty Line :- poverty line is a cut-off point on the line of distribution , which usually divides the population of the country into poor and non-poor.
° Accordingly , people having income below the poverty line are called poor and people with income above poverty line are called non-poor .
° As per this measure , the number of people below poverty line is called 'Head count ' .
And the percentage of people living below the poverty line , is known as head count ratio .
