Chapter 36 - The Sentinel’s Venom and the Petal’s Grave

The spectral silver trees of the "First Forest" memory-node were still fading into the darkness of the Abyss when Yu Chen's eyes snapped open. His Void-Heart Star didn't just pulse; it burned. Through the mountain's natural resonance and his connection to the Shadow Constellations, he could feel the collision of energies 500 miles away.

"Senior Dugu is engaged," Yu Chen said, his voice dropping into that chilling, dual-tone resonance.

Ye Lingling, now standing with the poise of a Rank 41 Spirit Ancestor, adjusted her grip on her translucent Begonia. The 18,000-year black ring circling her feet cast long, flickering shadows. "Is he in danger? That light... it feels like it's trying to sanitize the world."

"It's the Light of the Hall of Elders," Dugu Yan hissed, her Jade-Void Dragon wings snapping open. "I know that signature. It's the Heavenly Chrysanthemum style. That 'Silent Petal' is a monster."

Yu Chen looked up toward the ceiling of the Abyss, his gaze seemingly piercing through miles of rock. "He is. But Senior Dugu isn't the 'Poison Freak' they remember. He's the Sentinel of the Void now."

The clash was silent and beautiful, which made it all the more terrifying.

The Silent Petal, Rank 89, stood with his eyes closed. His golden staff was planted in the earth, and around him, millions of razor-sharp, glowing petals swirled in a massive hurricane. This was his Seventh Spirit Skill: Chrysanthemum Avatar. The light was so intense it was physically bleaching the color out of the forest, turning the emerald mist into gray ash.

"Dugu Bo," the Silent Petal's voice drifted through the storm. "Your poison is slow. My light is instantaneous. You cannot win a war of attrition against the Heavens.

Dugu Bo stood 100 meters away, half-hidden in a patch of darkness that the light couldn't seem to touch. He didn't look like a man in a fight; he looked like a predator watching a tragedy.

"Slow?" Dugu Bo chuckled, a sound like dry scales rubbing together. "Little flower, you're still thinking in three dimensions. You think you're burning my mist? Look at your feet."

The Silent Petal opened his eyes. He gasped.

The ground beneath him wasn't grass anymore. It was a shimmering, dark green glass. While the Petal had been focusing on the mist in the air, Dugu Bo had used his new Void-Poison logic to "infect" the earth. The poison hadn't just seeped into the soil—it had turned the soil into a Crystalline Dead-Zone.

"Eighth Spirit Skill," Dugu Bo roared, his Rank 92 aura exploding with a force that sent a shockwave through the 500-mile zone.

Instead of a cloud of gas, a massive, solid serpent made of Void-Jade erupted from the ground directly beneath the Silent Petal. It didn't bite; it simply passed through the golden hurricane. Because it was infused with Yu Chen's Void-logic, it ignored the physical and elemental defenses of the golden petals.

The Silent Petal screamed as the serpent's head passed through his chest. He wasn't bleeding. Instead, his golden spirit power was being turned into gray stone.

"This... this isn't poison!" the Silent Petal choked out, falling to his knees as his golden staff shattered. "This is... erasure!"

"It's the future," Dugu Bo said, walking calmly through the dying golden light. He stood over the Rank 89 expert. "The Starfall Peaks don't hide because we're afraid. We hide because we're giving the rest of the world a few more years to live."

With a flick of his wrist, Dugu Bo turned the Silent Petal into a statue of jade-colored ash. The wind caught the remains, scattering them across the 500-mile zone.

Inside the Abyss: The Second Layer

Yu Chen felt the golden signature disappear. A cold satisfaction settled in his chest. But then, a new weight descended upon the Abyss.

Grandmother Yu Shui's voice echoed from the darkness, sounding more like a judge than a relative. "The first week is over, children. You have defended the gate, you have found the Heart, and you have evolved the Shield. But the Sovereign is still weak."

The platform beneath their feet suddenly tilted 90 degrees.

"Phase Two: The Weight of the Ancestors."

The trio fell once more, plunging past the crystalline trees and into a layer where there was no light at all—only the crushing pressure of Rank 90+ Spirit Intent.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: Second Layer Reached.]

Current Environment: The Grave of the 25 Founders.

Effect: Spirit Power consumption +300%. Gravity 20x.

Objective: Reach Rank 40. Obtain the 'Sovereign's Mantle'.

Yu Chen hit the ground, his knees buckling under the 20x gravity. Dugu Yan and Ye Lingling landed beside him, their spirits flaring instinctively to survive.

In the darkness, 25 pairs of silver eyes opened. These were the Spirit Will shadows of the clan's greatest ancestors. They weren't here to teach; they were here to test if Yu Chen was worthy of the Gatekeeper Command.

"If you want to be the Sovereign," a voice from the shadows boomed, "then show us you can stand when the universe tells you to kneel!"

Yu Chen gritted his teeth, his Void-Heart Star spinning so fast it began to hum. "Yan'er, Lingling... don't just stand. Resonate!"
