Chapter 1 - Second Chance

All I could hear was the howls of everyone I once knew turned against me.

Paraded through the streets I was, with everyone lined up at the side of their houses in this little world we called home in Bloodhaven. It was much darker that day than I would like to remember, as the only thing that illuminated the paved streets leading me to my pyre for death that day were torches and the yellow irises of the other betas under my father's leadership.

To think the Alpha's daughter could be chained and led to her death stake was the last thing I ever thought would happen to me.

Yet, I wasn't going to go quietly, not even if the heaviest shackles of iron were placed upon me, bound by two larger betas that made sure to watch my every move.

I shook violently, thrashing about as much as I could. The guards were just as forceful as ever; it was to be expected from the savage, war-ready nature my father's pack praised and cultivated.

As I was led to the center of the kingdom, my stake was placed firmly in the middle of the town square, stacked with sticks, charcoal, and, surprisingly, made of silver, just to make sure I would die in more ways than one.

It was like I had committed the highest act of treason or something, and the fact that my father and other family members were lined up in front of the pyre along with the other families of noblemen made this all seem even worse.

This can't be how it ends for me…I didn't do it, I swear!

My mother, the first queen of my father's lineage, stood beside my younger brother and sister. My mother's fangs were bared at me, snarling with vitriol for my very existence, while my brother and sister hid themselves behind her long, pure white robes. Her piercing red eyes cast judgment upon me. Once she had done so, I didn't have a chance in hell of convincing her, especially with how well she knew my temperament.

The howls of all in attendance grew louder, and so did my struggles to break free. The jiggles of the chains I was bound in creaked more and more as I gritted my fangs with all the power I could muster, managing to shake one of the guards off me.

I turned to one person I had a chance to convince…my father.

"Father! I'm begging you to see through this madness! I would disrespect you or our people! You know I would never sleep with a…!"

"Yet, here you are before me, daughter, with insurmountable evidence that you've done as such!" he responded, his voice like a roar that shut me into despondency.

This was the first time I heard such hurt and hatred ever leave his voice when speaking to me. I knew I was a handful, hell, reckless, and all-around a loose cannon at times, which caused many to wonder if I was worthy of being his daughter. But…this felt so different, as even in those times when he chastised me for my ways, it felt like he understood me to a degree.

But now he stared at me like not only betrayed all that trust, but like a liar that took his trust and burnt, like I was very much about to be.

"Father, please…I have never heard of his name before. Those nobles are lying to you…!"

I tried to push towards him, but another guard tossed me to the ground, grinding my jaw into the pavement. They hauled me up violently, my flowing hair a disastrous mess.

One of the nobles walked over to my father, carrying a scroll in their hands. I knew what these meant from the moment I saw the insignia on the scroll. My fate was more than sealed; it was engraved on a tombstone.

My father opened the scroll, showing off the insignia of our pack and kingdom. The wolf's head was a howling one, carved in a hot-red to signify the blood and tears that went into forging the kingdom. Every person, including myself, was trained to hunt and kill better than those in other kingdoms in Bloodhaven. And now, I would be killed by those who were meant to cherish me.

He nodded in the direction of the pyre. The guards complied with no hesitation.

"For all that have come here today, silence your rage." My father commanded, as all the other wolves ceased their never-ending wails, "I've heard the cries for justice to be taken upon this heathen, once my daughter, but now she is no longer."

The guard loaded me onto the massive stake, beating me senseless first to make it easier to load up my near-unconscious body. They needed no weapons to do so, as the strength of these betas was more than enough to hammer me into submission.

If I weren't bound, I would rip their throats out and feed the cattle around our empire.

My father continued his speech as I was chained to the pyre.

"She once lived a good life, having all to her care, having many to choose from to be her mate. From the nobles of our pack that fought countless battles, even against our other brothers, and proved themselves worthy of a person of her caliber."

The Chains constricted my lungs, forcing what air I had left back into the atmosphere for those who hated me to feel my despair. I fought against all my wants to let tears escape my eyes…I couldn't give those lying bastards the satisfaction of seeing it, knowing they had finally taken away what I loved the most about my life, my control over it.

"Here are your crimes, my false daughter, Tyra, and know them well. You, as a wolf of noble blood, have slept and done many dealings of acts with an Outsider, an outcast Omega that desires to be destroyed like yourself. You were once a noble mate that deserved everything and tossed it all away."

I…never did it. Father, please…

The guards below waited for my father's signal, allowing me to get the final glimpse of my family, their yellow and red eyes firmly cementing their disdain for ever calling me a member.

That broke me the most.

My father flashed his hand once, as the guards hesitated no longer.

Staked to a wooden funeral pyre, the guard took their torches and lit the stack of charcoal ablaze. But to make sure I would die also, Silver spears were tossed into my body just before the fire devoured me. The pain of being impaled was one thing, but nothing like feeling each and every hair follicle on my body slowly being turned into ash.

On instinct, my body tried to shift into my full wolf-form to thicken my hide, but that was rendered useless by the silver spears embedded into me. All I could do was roar and scream to the heavens, begging for this to end.

I didn't want my life to end like this, not in the way that everyone thought it should have. These liars couldn't get away with it, all laughing and snarling in delight at my demise because of how many times I had rejected them from being my mate.

But almost as if by fate, just as I closed my eyes, feeling my soul melt away, everything suddenly stopped. Darkness had clouded my vision. I couldn't open my eyes no matter how I tried; there was no sensation in my body. I hated feeling devoid of my senses.

Till, a large Boom! snapped me from a place of stasis. My breaths were ragged, hot, and confused. I looked around quickly, desperately assessing my surroundings to find out what had caused that sound and if I was still on the stake. But instead, I was seated in somewhat of a back alleyway, smelling burning soot as it filled my lungs.

Where—Where am I? I thought, looking around until my eyes fell upon a puddle of dirty water nearby.

I was just clear enough to make out an image in the water.

The image, however, was anything but me.

A younger woman looked back at me, around age 25 to my age 30. My purple hair from before was replaced with a pure silver variant that I never thought I would see on myself. What was most pressing however, was the colour of my irises…they were a pure steel blue.

Another boom came from around in the city streets, alerting to the true situation at hand. Something was destroying this new world I was in, or maybe I was still in the old one. I didn't know at this point.

I did know this, however. I was reborn in the body of an Omega, and while that was the worst thing for my existence, it sure beat being dead, and I wasn't in the mood to be dying again so soon.

Not with plans for revenge that slowly came to my mind.
