Chloe's eyes widened. She didn't think but moved. A dagger in her hand. The place was full of torn flesh from infernals, and some of the bodies were girls who'd lost their lives trying to fight for a better future.
Linda was being choked at the throat by a level-one human infernal. Her eyes bulged from their sockets, her hands clawing at the infernal's grip, her shoulders bruised badly with a chunk missing. Just ten minutes out of Chloe's sight and she looked battered and bitten. A strip of her uniform sleeve was gone, and the skin beneath was already turning black at the edges.
She raised her blade high, shining in the evening sun. With a chop, she cut the infernal's hand that was holding Linda by the throat.
She knew their skins were hardened, so faster than the last strike, her left hand followed with her superpower.
