Due to not communicating with Flint after the breakup, Ellen had difficulty sleeping. Even though it had been three hours since her conversation with Penelope, her mind was filled with the hurtful words she had said to Flint. Reading all the negative comments on social media, she felt even more unable to leave Flint to face this alone. She felt like she wanted to go to Flint's house right now to apologize in person. She wasn't acting this way out of pity, but rather out of a desire to protect Flint.
Even as the sunlight streamed into Penelope's living room, it felt like Ellen had only been asleep for a moment before waking up again. However, it was better this way than having to postpone apologizing to Flint for hurting his feelings.
