Chapter 9 - Episode 8: Why don’t we just live together for a while?

And so, my cohabitation life with Milfi-san began.

Her heat usually comes at night, it seems, so it makes sense to do the "treatment" around that time.

I told her, "I'll just come over at night," but when I mentioned that my place is way out on the edge of town and pretty far away, Milfi-san casually replied,

"Then… why don't we just live together for a while?"

An absolutely outrageous suggestion.

Living under the same roof as a guy—what was she planning to do if something happened?

…Wait. Hold on. Something already did happen, didn't it?

But that was treatment. It wasn't anything shady—it was legitimate, proper medical treatment…

"What have you been muttering to yourself about this whole time?"

"Hauu!?"

A sudden voice from the side made me jump straight up.

Seeing how obviously suspicious I looked, Milfi-san let out a soft giggle, tilted her head, and said, "You're so weird."

A goddess…?

"Wow, Theo-kun, this looks amazing! It looks so delicious!"

"R-really? It's just normal food, though."

What I made in her borrowed kitchen was lunch for the two of us.

Freshly baked white bread, a slow-cooked chicken and vegetable stew, and a simple side salad thrown together quickly.

"No way, it looks really delicious. This might be the first time I've ever had such luxurious homemade food."

"You're exaggerating…"

We set the plates down and sat across from each other.

Right in front of me was Milfi-san's gentle smile.

Her slightly downturned, calm eyes, the tear mole just below her right eye.

Her big fox ears were twitching happily—piko piko.

My chest felt warm and fuzzy.

(The legendary Milfi-san… is eating across the table from me right now…!)

Just yesterday I'd been kicked out of the party and felt like I'd been dropped straight into hell.

Now it felt like paradise.

Life really is unpredictable.

"Ah, it's delicious! Seriously, Theo-kun, this is really good!"

"R-really? I'm glad…"

"You're incredible. I'm honestly impressed."

"N-no, it's nothing…"

Being stared at directly while being praised made my face heat up.

"Do you live alone, Theo-kun?"

"Yes. My family's back in Tswal Village. I came to the capital to join the guild."

"I see. No wonder you're so dependable. Me? Anything I try to cook turns into a lump of charcoal. You were probably disappointed by breakfast this morning, right?"

"Ahaha…"

All I could do was give a dry laugh.

This morning, Milfi-san had said "Since I'm the one asking for help" and tried to make me breakfast out of consideration.

What came out was… perfectly carbonized bread.

Not "crispy from fire magic"—more like "crunchy black charcoal." It didn't even look edible.

Apparently she struggles with fine control of cooking heat.

"I wanted to show you my good side…" she had mumbled, ears and tail drooping pitifully.

That rare, dejected look was honestly kind of a win for me.

Disappointed? No—I felt like I'd gained something precious.

"I'm hopeless at all housework, really."

"But your room is super clean, Milfi-san."

It's full of cute little decorations and trinkets, yet everything is neatly arranged and placed with care.

"I like cleaning. When the room is tidy, my mind feels clear too."

"Ah, I get that. Everyone has things they're good and bad at with chores."

"Right?"

"I'm actually terrible at keeping things organized… Once I take something out, it stays out forever."

"Eh~ Really? Then maybe the two of us living together would balance each other out perfectly."

That single sentence made my heart leap hard in my chest.

Of course, Milfi-san probably didn't mean anything deep by it—just a light, casual comment.

Even so, I couldn't help overthinking it.

Just having normal conversations with her already makes me happy enough—

"Thanks for the meal. It was seriously delicious. Thank you."

"Y-you're welcome. Ah, I'll clean up—"

"No, I'll do the dishes. More importantly… come here?"

Milfi-san stood up and gracefully sat down on the edge of the bed.

"Eh? A-are we doing treatment already…?"

"No, that's not it! Just come here~♪"

Smiling brightly, she patted her own thigh—pon pon.

"As thanks for the meal… I'll give you a lap pillow."

"Hii…?"

Heaven… Is this actually heaven…?
