After the first part finished, it was time for GG Time.
When GG ended, the second part began.
Outside, the storm raged.
The Male Lead went to the roof of the investigation headquarters and found L standing there, drenched in the rain.
Sensing the Male Lead's arrival, L turned to look at him.
"Ryuzaki, what are you doing out here?" the Male Lead asked, puzzled.
L raised a hand to his ear, indicating that the rain was too loud to hear what the Male Lead was saying.
The Male Lead repeated his question, but still got no answer. He stepped into the storm and approached L, asking the same question for the third time.
"Nothing."
L lowered his head. "It's nothing important, just the bells..."
The bells were particularly loud, as if they were heralding something.
Recalling the bells at the beginning of the episode, it made one wonder if this was a premonition of L's death.
The Male Lead looked around, confused. "Why can't I hear anything?"
"Really? The bells haven't stopped ringing all day. I can't ignore them," L replied, looking into the distance. "The church bells, right? Is someone getting married? Or...?"
"What are you talking about? Ryuzaki, stop with the nonsense. Let's go inside," the Male Lead said impatiently.
"Sorry."
L glanced at the Male Lead, apologized, and lowered his head. "Everyone will dismiss what I say as nonsense, so please don't believe me."
The camera followed the Male Lead's gaze to L, focusing on his facial expression.
The Male Lead stared for two seconds, then smiled. "That's true, Ryuzaki. Most of what you say is nonsense. If we tried to analyze every word, we'd be here all day. I know that better than anyone."
"You're right, Light."
L acknowledged, but immediately shifted the topic. "Still, aren't we both the same in that regard?"
"What do you mean?" the Male Lead asked, confused.
"Have you ever spoken a truly honest word since you were born?" L said meaningfully.
His words made it clear that his suspicion of the Male Lead had never truly vanished, at most having been slightly diluted by the Death Note's rule about killing within thirteen days.
Whether the Male Lead understood the implication or not, he responded earnestly. "What are you talking about, Ryuzaki? I do lie occasionally, but... who hasn't lied in their life? Humans aren't perfect. Everyone lies. But I've always been careful not to tell lies that hurt others. That's my answer."
"I knew you'd say that," L replied, showing no surprise.
After their conversation, the two returned to the building.
As they towel-dried their hair, L even offered to dry the Male Lead's feet, calling it "atonement."
These two bitter rivals suddenly acted like true friends.
Soon, L sighed, "It's so lonely."
"Huh?" The Male Lead was taken aback.
L looked up at him and explained, "We'll be parting ways soon."
The Male Lead remained silent, unsure of what L meant or how to respond.
At that moment, L's phone rang.
L answered it, listened for two seconds, then nodded. "I understand. I'll be right there."
After hanging up, he called the Male Lead to join him.
Puzzled, the Male Lead followed L to the office and quickly understood the situation: Under L's instructions, Watari had contacted the FBI. L wanted them to prepare two death row inmates, Death Row Inmate A and Death Row Inmate B. Inmate A would write Inmate B's name in the Death Note, and they would observe for thirteen days to see if Inmate A would truly die.
The FBI agreed to send the Death Note over.
For this mission, L asked Soichiro Yagami to assist.
Though Soichiro strongly disapproved of this approach, he ultimately agreed, considering it a necessary sacrifice to catch Kira.
Seeing this, the Male Lead offered to accompany them, but Soichiro refused. He instructed the Male Lead to stay with L and continue the investigation, suggesting someone else accompany him instead.
With the plan roughly settled, Soichiro took the Death Note, and another person drove them away from the investigation headquarters toward the airport, leaving the others behind.
The moment they left, the computer monitoring screens showed Misa Amane's figure inside the investigation headquarters.
Given the heavy rain outside, Misa wouldn't likely come to see the Male Lead unless it was urgent. The more probable explanation was that L had summoned her.
Rem, standing nearby, sensed danger and finally made up her mind.
Crack!
A thick bolt of lightning struck the investigation headquarters from the sky.
Behind the office workers, Rem's eyes glowed crimson.
The lightning hit the investigation headquarters.
In the office, all the lights suddenly went out, and the computer screens went dark.
"What's going on? Is there a power outage?" someone couldn't help but ask.
Soon, the computer screens flickered back to life. At the same time, the image shifted to another office, where Watari, L's representative in the outside world, struggled to reach out and press the button to delete all the data. He then collapsed in agony.
In the office where L and the others were, all the computer screens displayed the message: "All data deletion."
"Data deletion? What's this?" someone muttered in confusion.
L quickly explained, "I told Watari that if anything happened to him, he should delete all the data."
He turned to look around and asked, "Where's the Shinigami?"
Everyone shook their heads; no one knew where the Shinigami had gone.
Meanwhile, Shinigami Rem was scribbling rapidly in his notebook.
"Everyone, the Shinigami..."
L had already realized something was wrong with Shinigami Rem.
But before he could finish speaking, the small spoon he was holding dropped to the floor. His body swayed and he collapsed to the ground.
Ding~ Dong~
The bells chimed, their echoes overlapping.
The scene shifted to Rem. Her body was turning to ash.
"With this, Misa should be safe... But Yagami Light, I'll never let you use my notebook!"
She muttered, using her last remaining strength to destroy her notebook.
Meanwhile, in the office where the Male Lead and the others were, the Male Lead immediately rushed to L's side. He held L's lifeless body, watching as L's eyes slowly closed. A triumphant smirk briefly played on his lips before he quickly suppressed it, launching into a frantic performance:
"Ryuzaki, what's wrong? Snap out of it!"
"Ah!!!"
"We're going to die, Watari, Ryuzaki—it'll be our turn next."
His words sent a wave of terror through the room.
The Male Lead shouted, "Damn it!"
He summoned the Shinigami, convinced it knew something, and stormed out of the office to confront it. The others quickly sprang into action.
The Male Lead was the first to find Shinigami Rem, but by then, the Shinigami had already turned to dust.
The fact that he couldn't find the Death Note left the Male Lead somewhat surprised.
His eyes flickered briefly before he quickly regained his composure. He found the others and declared with righteous fervor that he would fight Kira to the bitter end, vowing to avenge L, Watari, and all the victims of Kira's wrath, even at the risk of his own life.
After making his declaration, he turned and left.
Walking down the empty, darkened corridor, he felt a surge of exhilaration:
That bothersome guy is gone. Now all I need to do is retrieve my Death Note...
I will become the god of the new world!
Lightning struck the sky, illuminating the Male Lead's face—a face twisted with dark, seductive charm.
The main part of episode 25 ended there.
In front of the television, Shiga Taka scratched his head.
L is dead? He didn't even make it to the final episode?
I had a feeling this might happen, but... could the ending really be good triumphing over evil? Will the Male Lead inherit L's mantle, continue playing Kira while "punishing" criminals, and play the "thief crying wolf" game?
Or perhaps, even though L is dead, he left a contingency plan, and it's the Male Lead's turn to die next episode?
If there's a contingency plan, what could it be?
It's impossible to guess.
But that's exactly why I'm even more excited for the final episode.
