Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: The Century's Thrilling Anime

At a radio station, several voice actors from the anime Lelouch were promoting the show in a casual conversation:

"Even though I'm not playing the main character, the one word that comes to mind when I watch this anime is: incredibly satisfying."

"'Incredibly satisfying' isn't just one word, is it?"

"It's more like a phrase, but based on what's aired so far, this anime is truly satisfying. I'd even call it the most satisfying anime of this century."

"It's really good, this style."

"Yeah, after watching it, I felt like all the stress from my real life was released."

The core message of the promotion was "satisfaction," designed to reinforce the audience's impression of Lelouch as an exhilarating experience. This was the directive given by L.S. Production's marketing department to the voice actors.

Online, in major chat rooms, a user named "Hakuba Fujiko" consistently praised Lelouch, describing it as "so satisfying to watch" and "incredibly stress-relieving."

On forums and animation communities, L.S. Production's online marketing team actively posted, flooding the internet with posts that amplified the public's perception of Lelouch as an exhilarating experience.

Offline, press releases consistently hailed the animation as "the most satisfying anime to watch in recent years."

New promotional posters were created to highlight the "satisfaction" element, and even the weekly key visuals were carefully chosen to depict scenes of Lelouch achieving decisive victories or exuding cool confidence.

After this overwhelming marketing blitz, the overall impression was clear: while Lelouch had many other compelling aspects, its greatest draw was undeniably its sheer, unadulterated satisfaction.

In terms of plot, up to episode eleven, while the male lead Lelouch occasionally faced setbacks, the overall progression remained incredibly satisfying.

Episode nine focused on the Black Knights' operations after their formation, while also fleshing out Karen's character, including her family background, especially her mother's situation.

Of course, there were also interactions between Lelouch and Karen. Although Zero had already gained Karen's trust, Lelouch kept his identity hidden from her in their academy life.

Episode ten showcased the fruits of their recent actions: widespread public support, a surge in recruitment requests, a rapid increase in intelligence reports, and a shipment of mechs from a Kyoto organization, including the formidable Guren Type-2.

Lelouch entrusted the sole Guren Type-2 to Karen. Simultaneously, the Black Knights received intelligence that Second Princess Cornelia was leading her mech forces to encircle the Japan Liberation Front's stronghold in the Narita Mountain Range.

A new mission arose: proceed to the Narita Mountain Range.

The primary objectives were to rescue the Japan Liberation Front and, more importantly, to confront Second Princess Cornelia. This would also serve to further demonstrate the Black Knights' capabilities to the organization in Kyoto.

On the day of the operation, Lelouch led the Black Knights in quietly infiltrating the Narita Mountain Range. They set up traps, awaiting the arrival of Cornelia's forces.

When Cornelia's troops completely surrounded the mountain range, the Black Knights began to falter, their composure crumbling. Some even turned on Lelouch, questioning his leadership.

Lelouch responded swiftly and decisively. He drew his gun, looked down at them, and declared, "Our retreat is cut off. If anyone believes you can win without me, step forward and shoot me."

The group froze in shock.

"Having joined the Black Knights, you have only two choices: live with me, or die with me," Lelouch stated, his tone unyielding.

Through his calm and resolute demeanor, he successfully cowed the entire Black Knights force into submission.

While Cornelia's forces were pushing the Japan Liberation Front back, Lelouch led the Black Knights in a surprise attack.

First, he had Karen pilot the Guren Type-2 to detonate the underground steam, causing the entire mountain range to collapse and burying many of Cornelia's troops alive.

In the eleventh episode, under Lelouch's command and with the cooperation of the Japan Liberation Front, the Black Knights engaged Cornelia's main army in a fierce battle. They nearly captured Cornelia, but Suzaku arrived in the Lancelot and rescued her.

With the Guren Type-2 damaged and unable to match the Lancelot, Lelouch weighed his options and chose to retreat temporarily. However, while retreating alone, he was pursued by Suzaku's Lancelot. C.C. intervened, using her powers to inflict a severe mental blow on Suzaku, nearly driving him insane on the spot and allowing Lelouch to escape.

This battle shattered Cornelia's morale and marked a decisive victory for the Black Knights.

Lelouch and C.C.'s relationship deepened when Lelouch touched her as she used her mysterious power on Suzaku, seeing fragmented visions of her past.

The scenes depicted a medieval European setting, with crowds madly throwing stones at the wall of a building, mirroring the pattern that appeared on C.C.'s forehead when she used her power.

This was followed by images of nuns, a shrine, and C.C. naked, immersed in the clear waters of a river.

Though C.C. appeared in agony, tears streaming down her face as she clutched her chest and cried, "S-stop... don't come inside me! Stop! Why? I... I'm being opened up."

Despite her reluctance, this incident successfully lifted a corner of C.C.'s mysterious veil, revealing her true name to the Male Lead and bringing them closer.

At the end of episode twelve, in a dimly lit mountain cave, Karen rushed in to find Lelouch in his Zero costume, together with C.C.

"Don't worry, she's an important companion of mine," Lelouch introduced Karen.

After the introduction, he turned to C.C. and said, "I don't know why snow is white, but I think white snow is beautiful. I don't dislike it."

This was in response to C.C.'s earlier remark: "Lelouch, do you know why snow is white? Because it's forgotten its true color."

The phrase "white snow" might also be a veiled reference to C.C., given her constant white robes.

Whether C.C. understood Lelouch's subtext was unclear. She blinked and replied indifferently, "Is that so?"

Meanwhile, Karen wore a slightly hurt expression.

Though there was a hint of "White Album" vibes, the plot up to this point had been undeniably satisfying. When the animation studio aggressively advertised Code Geass as an exhilarating experience, no viewers questioned the claim.

From beginning to end, no one felt anything was amiss.
