Morning sunlight spilled across the long gravel driveway of the river house, turning the dew-covered grass silver and gold beneath the trees. The river beyond the property moved quietly through the morning haze while birds argued from the branches overhead. Near the front entrance, Alistair's car idled softly, luggage already packed away.
Seraphina stood beside the passenger door with a travel mug in one hand.
Galathea stood opposite her.
Neither seemed interested in ending the conversation.
"Text me when you get home, Jadie." Galathea said.
Seraphina smirked. "You text me first, Galie."
"I still hate that." Galathea shook her head.
"You're saying it like that's going to stop me," Seraphina shrugged.
Both women laughed.
Cael stood behind Galathea with one hand resting lightly at the small of her back while Alistair checked something on his phone.
