Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: The Final Signal

The world felt different now.

Not because it had changed—

But because Harold had.

Four SSS-tier Titans.

Integrated.

Balanced.

Refined.

Sky.

Depth.

Division.

Foundation.

Each one no longer separate forces—

But parts of a single system.

Harold stood still for a moment.

Not moving.

Not rushing.

Because ahead—

The final signal waited.

And it was…

Silent.

Not hidden.

Not distant.

Silent.

Inside—

The system reacted differently this time.

The Counter-Sovereign spoke first.

"Signal detected."

A pause.

"…No fluctuation."

Unity dimmed slightly.

"Balance… unclear."

The Devourer rumbled.

"…No presence to consume."

The Monkey King frowned.

"…I don't like that."

The Whale Falcon circled slowly.

"Airspace normal."

The Sovereign Colossus grounded everything.

"Foundation stable."

Harold's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…It's not calling."

Frost stepped forward beside him.

"…What does that mean?"

Harold didn't answer immediately.

Because he already understood.

"…It's waiting."

Storm blinked.

"…Isn't that the same thing?"

Harold shook his head.

"No."

A pause.

"This one doesn't react."

The wind passed quietly around them.

No pressure.

No distortion.

No warning.

And somehow—

That made it worse.

Harold stepped forward.

Then vanished.

Not tearing space.

Not bending it.

Just moving—

Without resistance.

The world shifted.

Mountains passed.

Oceans blurred.

Skies changed.

Until—

He stopped.

A plain.

Endless.

Flat.

No ruins.

No storms.

No distortion.

Nothing.

Storm and Frost appeared behind him moments later.

Storm looked around.

"…This is it?"

Frost frowned.

"…There's nothing here."

Harold didn't respond.

Because he felt it.

Everywhere.

And nowhere.

Inside—

The system went quiet.

Completely.

No voices.

No analysis.

Nothing.

Harold's breath slowed.

"…So this is you."

Silence.

Then—

A voice.

Not loud.

Not deep.

Simple.

"I've been here."

Storm jumped slightly.

"…Okay—where?!"

There was no direction.

No source.

Because the voice wasn't coming from a place.

It was coming from everything.

Frost's expression darkened.

"…It's not located."

Harold nodded slowly.

"…It doesn't exist like the others."

The voice spoke again.

"You came."

A pause.

"You took them."

The air remained still.

Unmoving.

Unaffected.

Harold's gaze sharpened.

"I'm here for you too."

Silence.

Then—

A question.

"Why?"

Not challenging.

Not mocking.

Genuine.

Storm blinked.

"…Did it just ask why?"

Harold answered simply.

"To complete it."

A pause.

"To move forward."

Silence stretched.

Then—

The ground shifted.

Not breaking.

Revealing.

A single step appeared in front of Harold.

Just one.

Floating slightly above the ground.

The voice spoke again.

"Then step."

Frost's eyes narrowed.

"…Careful."

Storm added quickly.

"…Yeah, this feels like a trap."

Harold looked at the step.

Inside—

The system remained silent.

No warnings.

No guidance.

Nothing.

For the first time—

He had no support.

No calculation.

No certainty.

Just—

A choice.

He stepped forward.

And placed his foot on it.

The world disappeared.

No light.

No darkness.

Nothing.

Then—

He stood somewhere else.

Not a place.

A state.

And in front of him—

Someone stood.

Not massive.

Not overwhelming.

Normal.

A figure that looked… human.

Calm eyes.

Still presence.

Watching him.

"…You're different."

Harold didn't move.

"…You're the last one."

The figure nodded slightly.

"Yes."

A pause.

"I am what remains."

Inside—

Still silence.

No Titans.

No system.

Nothing.

Harold frowned slightly.

"…Where is everything?"

The figure looked at him.

"You left it behind."

A pause.

"For this."

Harold's eyes sharpened.

"…Then what are you?"

The figure didn't answer immediately.

Then—

It smiled faintly.

"I am what you are without them."

Silence.

For the first time—

Harold felt it.

Not pressure.

Not danger.

Absence.

No power.

No system.

Just—

Him.

The figure stepped forward.

"Now."

A pause.

"Show me."

Harold stood still.

No system.

No Titans.

No abilities.

Nothing.

Just himself.

And the final test.
