Viserys rode Sunfyre, overlooking the grayish-black ruins and broken towers below.
The Unsullied in their bronze spiked helmets wound forward like a centipede, stepping cautiously on the rugged path; they were not fighting barbarian Dothraki, but the bizarre ecology of the ruins.
The remaining Unsullied drank the silver wine left by the Undying to ward off the residual corrosion and pollution of the Valyrian Ruins.
The water sources in the ruins were also terrible; the occasional rain here was sulfated acid rain.
Near the volcanoes were rivers of magma, while further away were acid-corrosive rivers.
Seemingly normal water flows were even more dangerous, attracting other species to occupy them.
Even though the air still carried the scent of blood and sulfur, Viserys was in a quite good mood at the thought of finally leaving this godforsaken place.
The dragon bones were too large; attribute increases could never be finished, so it was better to focus on personal improvement first.
Viserys opened the tattered ancient map of the Undying, and it was mostly as he had imagined.
Previously, Valyria was a circular city sandwiched between the northern and southern volcanic chains.
The center was the palace towers of the Valyrian Dragonlords, the council halls, temples, and so on.
In the volcanoes, the Fourteen Flames were vaguely marked as the locations of mines and dragon lairs.
This Tykallian Tower, located some distance from the volcanoes, was a laboratory belonging to the Blood Cult; being on the outskirts, it had been chosen by the Undying.
Viserys looked at the map, which even marked the location of the House Targaryen palace; it seemed to be a map from before the Dreamer's time.
He had already gained enough; it was time to quit while he was ahead.
The center of the Valyrian wasteland was too dangerous; there was no need to venture there again, and he could only wait for the next exploration.
There would be more laboratories in the core of the wasteland, and the species would likely be stronger, with an ecology subverted by even more intense Blood Magic and Fire Magic.
Besides the Dragonlord heritage of the Fire Party and the Blood Cult, Viserys had also encountered the Qarth expedition led by the Undying.
Viserys had not yet decided how to open up the situation in Slavers Bay; Slavers Bay was too far from him, even further east than Volantis.
But that didn't matter; Viserys had conveniently finished off two Undying and their black heart magical artifact.
The Undying were bent on seeking death, and in the end, they died miserably.
The Qartheen Warlocks believed in this system, using the corpses and hearts of sorcerers as magical consumables.
Another legendary Warlock heart was enshrined in the House of the Undying; its magical power should be even stronger.
Some Qartheen corpses were covered with a layer of silver leaves; it was said that such corpses possessed extremely powerful magic, especially if the deceased was a Warlock.
The Qartheen were wealthy and arrogant; Viserys would have a long time to deal with such fat sheep in the future.
For now, the Qartheen were still far from Viserys; their broken fleet was in another direction and might have been wiped out by now.
Sailing from Pentos to Asshai takes at least two years round trip. Even if Qarth is closer, it takes at least a year.
These ruins were full of ghosts and gods; the Qartheen would not know the mystery of the Warlocks' deaths.
"Qarth, Qarth." Viserys remembered the name of the city; there would be plenty of time in the future.
The power structure of Qarth was peculiar, with the three major guilds that grew wealthy from overseas trade being suspicious of each other and competing for trade dominance.
At the same time, the merchants were in constant conflict with the ancient Qartheen royalty.
The Warlocks watched greedily from the sidelines with their blue lips and terrifying power. However, the Undying gathered in the House of the Undying, rarely appearing but equally awe-inspiring.
Viserys took his new servants and left the Blood Cult's palace; once they reached Sunfyre's dragon nest, they could depart soon after.
Argos, Jarak, and the others were already camped on the mountainside of Sunfyre's dragon nest, waiting anxiously.
When they saw Viserys, they finally breathed a sigh of relief; this was a strange and eerie place.
Firstly, it was for King Viserys's safety. Secondly, without the King, it would be difficult for them to leave.
Viserys reorganized his men into teams; the twelve new Unsullied were managed by the four remaining Pentos Unsullied under Viserys.
"The Valyrian Ruins are no longer a place to stay," Viserys said. "Now we need to leave as soon as possible."
Argos and Jarak felt the same; the place was filled with the smell of blood and sulfur, which was very unsettling.
Viserys rode Sunfyre, intensifying his training in dragon-riding techniques during his spare time; next was the time to leave.
The next day, Viserys led his servants to leave quickly, scattering the black oil blockers of the Blood Warlocks along the way.
"Quick march!" Viserys ordered Argos and the others to speed through the corridors between the hilly ruins; he felt the fluctuations of Fire Elements beneath the continuous ruins.
Many ruins had long been hollowed out by worms, forming interconnected underground tunnels.
Originally, Valyria had contained the Firewyrms within the Fourteen Flames, but after the the Doom, the volcanoes erupted, and Firewyrms swarmed the city ruins.
As Viserys and his team passed through a corridor, he looked back and saw a large hole suddenly break open on the barren hill they had just passed.
Viserys felt he had passed through a mineral area rich in Fire Elements; the Fire Elements came either from dragon remains or worms... A blood-colored Human-Faced Worm as thick as a palace tower erupted from the depths of the ruins; it was the largest worm Viserys had ever seen.
The Human-Faced Worm's body was segmented, with a long, winding body and a strange face; it looked like a wonder of nature.
Crouched on the hilltop, the wriggling worm looked like a second peak, full of power and grandeur.
Viserys had never seen a Sea Snake, but it probably wasn't much more than this.
The Human-Faced Worm looked angrily in the direction the humans had passed, its rounded, sharp-toothed mouth spewing red flames into the sky before burrowing back underground.
The rocks and gravel hit by the splashing flames melted, and some small Human-Faced Worms and Firewyrms caught in the blast were scorched instantly.
Those bright flames were so hot that Viserys felt they could rival the fire of ancient dragons; perhaps it was such a monster that had once dueled Balerion.
Although the Human-Faced Worm had discovered the humans' tracks, the scent of the dragon and the Blood Cult's black oil blocker made the worm quite wary.
Most importantly, large Human-Faced Worms were like old dragons; once their size reached its peak, their speed and flexibility decreased significantly, making them drowsy and sluggish.
They preferred to occupy one place and not be disturbed by others, disliking roaming.
Viserys looked at the Human-Faced Worm; Firewyrms might have appeared even earlier than the Valyrians. To be honest, this was the worms' home.
But restricted by the underground ecology, there wouldn't be many such giant ancient worms.
After this encounter, their speed increased greatly.
Viserys also breathed a sigh of relief; otherwise, it would have been another bloody battle. A Human-Faced Worm as big as a hilltop possessed fire power that could melt steel and rock.
Everyone worked together, not staying in the ruins for a moment longer.
As they were about to reach the shore, the blocker was almost used up.
Rustling sounds came from the nearby wild grass and ruins, like raindrops dripping or snakes crawling.
Viserys discovered a creature that looked like a cross between a lizard and a snake; the largest Basilisks were about three times the size of a Lion.
They were terrifying, ugly, and fierce grayish-brown reptiles; many Basilisks were also embedded with gems and carved with fire patterns.
These things were native to Sothoryos, likely products of Blood Magic experimental research.
Sunfyre roared in the air, and hot golden-red flames exploded over a wide area where the Basilisk swarm appeared.
Amidst the raging fire, the Basilisks let out hideous screeches.
There were too many basilisks; before they could be driven off or killed, four Unsullied met with misfortune. The Basilisk swarm employed group attack tactics.
The Unsullied's armor was bitten through by the Basilisks, and the contact with the wounds felt burning hot.
Warm-blooded animals become frenzied and violent upon contact with Basilisk venom, humans and beasts alike.
Moreover, these Basilisks had been modified with Blood Magic; besides being unable to fly, the toxin circulated faster.
Finally, several Unsullied charged into the Basilisk swarm screaming in a state of mental derangement, and after killing some Basilisks, they were torn to pieces.
Sunfyre breathed hot flames, finally repelling the Basilisk colony, and they successfully boarded their original small boat.
Besides Viserys, those remaining were Argos, Jarak, two Pentos Unsullied, and ten Qartheen Unsullied.
The dragon roared and hissed; after the harrowing wait, there was finally the dawn of returning home.
After everyone boarded, the small boat headed in its original direction, providing a period of stable buffer.
Viserys rode Sunfyre, clearing the way for the team through the Narrow Sea.
The dragon pierced through the clouds until the smell of sulfur and blood grew further and further away.
Viserys saw a lone ship floating abruptly on the Narrow Sea; it only appeared as the mist thinned.
The ship was mostly intact, with a broken Lion figurehead.
Though now dilapidated, one could still see its former magnificent, gilded appearance.
"A Lannister fleet?" Viserys speculated. However, only one ship remained of that great fleet, isolated at sea.
Tommen II had led a Golden Fleet to explore Valyria, destroyed by the the Doom, believing that treasures and secret arts still remained there.
After Sunfyre circled and observed, he landed on the ship, and Viserys inspected the ship's surface.
Aside from the broken armor and piles of white bones on the deck, the shattered Lion helmets were of no value.
Viserys went straight to the captain's quarters, where he saw a yellowed skull and charred remains.
The magnificent golden armor of yesteryear had long been corroded and destroyed; the adventure of the King of the Rock had become a laughingstock.
And there was the greatsword that had been missing for a long time, with a golden Lion-head pommel and a blade as dark as smoke; it was undoubtedly Brightroar.
The blade gleamed coldly; it was undoubtedly the former pride of the Lannisters.
"Snake and lizard monsters... mutiny... worms that fly into the body... plague..." Viserys saw the crooked, large characters scrawled on the table carved with golden Lions, where the skeletal remains sat upon a Goldenheart chair.
If this was Tommen II's team, it meant the Golden Fleet had first recklessly encountered a Basilisk attack after entering the ruins, and the maddened soldiers slaughtered each other.
The sulfur pollution, Blood Magic pollution, and water pollution of the Valyrian Ruins, combined with monsters like Human-Faced Worms, Basilisks, and Three-headed Blood Eagles.
None of these were things the army of the King of the Rock, who was of mortal flesh, could contend with. In the end, no one survived.
Viserys scavenged the ship once more; besides the sword, there was some gold they had carried at the time.
Although most of the Golden Fleet had disappeared, and they had spent heavily on supplies when they stopped in Volantis.
Even so, Viserys made a huge profit.
This gold would happen to become the funds for Viserys to deal with the Lannister family.
That glorious yet cruel throne of power could only accommodate one person's seat.
Viserys saw the sharp edge at the pinnacle of power, the place that belonged to him.
Viserys returned to the deck and rose with Sunfyre.
"You cannot return to Westeros either; perhaps this is the best final resting place. Dragonflame!"
After a blast of golden-red flames from Sunfyre, the last ship of the Golden Fleet vanished completely into the Narrow Sea, meeting the same fate as its companion ships.
The bloody adventure had ended, but the Game of Thrones continued.
Viserys then rode Sunfyre up through the clouds, never looking back.
