Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: Faith 18+

My wife rarely ever cursed, but this time I had pushed her to the point of telling me to "get lost." It was clear just how conflicted she felt inside.

I quietly shifted closer to her, wrapping my arms around her from behind. She immediately slapped my hand away.

"Why are you still angry? You were clearly excited too. You've never been as passionate as you were tonight. Didn't you enjoy it?" I said playfully.

Hearing this, she turned around and kicked me hard in the thigh, putting all her strength into it. The pain was so intense tears nearly welled up in my eyes, and I couldn't help but groan.

"Alright, alright, I won't provoke you anymore," I said, rubbing my sore thigh as I moved away to put some distance between us. Only then did she turn back around and pull the covers over her head again.

She tossed and turned, flipping over every few moments. I lay there quietly, clutching my thigh, waiting for her to give in. I knew my wife too well—if she were truly angry, she wouldn't still be sharing the bed with me.

Sure enough, after turning back and forth several times, she quietly shifted closer and nestled into my arms, whispering, "You awful husband. I'll forgive you this time, but if you ever act recklessly again, I really won't speak to you anymore."

Unable to hold back a smile, I wrapped my arms around her and gently kissed her forehead.

My wife reached over and began gently massaging my thigh, asking with concern, "Did that kick hurt, honey?"

"Not at all. Even if you broke my leg, I'd say it didn't hurt," I replied, feigning a pitiful tone.

"You're so annoying," she laughed, continuing to rub my thigh.

A night of passion had left both of us utterly exhausted, and before long, we drifted off to sleep one after the other.

The next morning, I was still deep in slumber when my wife shook me awake. Groggily opening my eyes, I saw her standing by the bed, already dressed and ready for the day.

"What's wrong? Why are you waking me up so early?" I mumbled, still half-asleep and barely able to muster any energy.

"Honey, something's off with Liao Wen. I knocked on his door for a while, but he didn't get up. He said he wasn't feeling well," she explained.

"Oh," I mumbled in response.

"Don't just say 'oh'! I'm heading to work now and will help him ask for leave. You go check on him later. This is all your fault, so clean up your own mess, got it?" she said, shaking me repeatedly as she spoke.

"Got it, got it," I quickly agreed.

Satisfied with my response, my wife left for work. I intended to get up and check on Liao Wen, but the allure of sleep was too strong. I rolled over and drifted back into dreams.

It wasn't until the alarm went off at eight that I jolted awake. Remembering my wife's request before she left, I didn't dare linger in bed any longer. I quickly got dressed and got up.

Leaving the bedroom, I headed straight for the small bedroom to find Liao Wen, only to discover the door wide open and the room empty. Just then, a noise came from the living room. I hurried over, and the sight that greeted me startled me.

Liao Wen was slumped on the sofa, clutching a bottle of Erguotou and gulping it down with his head tilted back.

I rushed over and snatched the bottle away. This was the liquor I kept under the coffee table for occasional drinks. If I remembered correctly, there should have been about half a bottle left, but now it was completely empty.

For someone who never drank, half a bottle of strong liquor was enough to get him drunk. He was clearly intoxicated—his face flushed red, leaning limply against the sofa, staring blankly ahead in a daze.

I sighed and sat down beside him, gently patting his back. "Liao Wen, what's going on? If something's bothering you, you can tell me."

Liao Wen looked up at me, then suddenly buried his face in his knees and began sobbing uncontrollably. Between tears, he cried out, "Brother, I've wronged you... I've wronged you."

I could already guess why he was acting this way. He must have been tormented by guilt over what happened with my wife last night, feeling that he had betrayed me.

I truly hadn't expected his guilt to weigh so heavily on him. I had only intended to stir things up a bit, but it seemed I had gone too far. Faced with this situation, I had no idea how to handle it.

I scratched my head, hesitating for a long time before finally deciding to tell him the truth. I couldn't let him carry this burden of guilt just because of my reckless prank—that would be too cruel.

"Well, actually... I knew about what happened with your sister-in-law in your room last night. And I was the one who told her to do it," I admitted awkwardly.

Upon hearing this, Liao Wen's body trembled violently. He slowly sat up and stared at me in disbelief.

"How should I put this... Actually, your sister-in-law and I, well, we have what you might call a semi-open marriage. Our hearts belong to each other, but physically, we're open. Do you understand what I mean?" I really didn't know how to explain this to a young man who had never even been in a relationship, and it took me a long time to find the right words.

"How can this be? How can this be? How can this be?" Liao Wen was completely shocked by my words, muttering over and over, his voice growing louder and louder until he was practically shouting.

"Calm down, calm down. Everyone has their own way of living, as long as they're happy," I awkwardly tried to console him.

Liao Wen finally stopped his hoarse shouting, sitting there in a daze. After a long while, he suddenly burst into tears, wailing, "Brother, my faith... it's gone."

I was startled and quickly tried to console him. "How did this even get tied to faith? It's not that serious, really. Don't cry—you're making me panic."

I truly was flustered. I'd seen plenty of women cry, but a grown man sobbing like a child was something I'd never encountered before.

Suddenly, Liao Wen threw himself forward, burying his face in my lap as he wept uncontrollably. I had no idea how to comfort him, so I awkwardly patted his back, feeling utterly helpless.

After a long time, his sobs gradually subsided. Still leaning against my leg, he murmured in a lifeless tone, "Brother, I've always liked Sister-in-law. The first time I saw her at your wedding, I knew I was lost. For over six years, I've thought about her every single day. She was the goddess in my dreams, the purest, most sacred, untouchable faith in my heart. But now... my faith is gone. It's collapsed."

I never imagined my wife held such a significant place in Liao Wen's heart. At that moment, I deeply regretted my actions from the previous night, even feeling a pang of annoyance. If my behavior had caused a young man to lose his faith, I would truly be a sinner.

"You can't be so extreme," I said after some thought. "Just because your sister-in-law and I chose a lifestyle you can't accept doesn't mean you should lose your faith entirely. Think about it—even the Virgin Mary in foreign beliefs gave birth to Jesus before marriage, yet believers still see her as the purest woman in the world. It's just a different life choice. Respect is the truest form of faith, don't you think?" I had pondered for a while, and this was the best comfort I could come up with.

I wasn't sure if my words had any effect, but Liao Wen slowly sat up, staring blankly at me. "Brother, I respect your life. I'm sorry. Please just treat what I said earlier as drunken nonsense."

Without waiting for my response, he stood up, swayed unsteadily, and headed back to his room...
