Chapter 6 - The Cause

Anping City Central Hospital.

"Damn it, I only just realized how much of a pain typing is."

With his right hand completely wrapped in plaster, Ah Hui could only awkwardly tap at his phone screen using the fingers of his left hand, which were secured in a brace.

He didn't dare use too much force—otherwise, a sharp pain would shoot through his fingers, which hadn't fully recovered yet.

"Finally finished…"

Ah Hui let out a heavy breath and sent the message he'd painstakingly typed.

Because the process was pure torture and he absolutely didn't want to type it all over again, Ah Hui once again chose to send it as a highlighted paid message.

Don't ask why—he had money and didn't care.

That said, "keyboard, come" didn't seem to be working very well for Ah Hui in his current condition. And as the anger from earlier gradually faded, he couldn't help but wonder whether he should just let it go.

After all, even if he didn't step forward, this streamer would expose himself sooner or later anyway.

And who knew—maybe before that even happened, this idiot streamer would get himself killed by monsters because of his own stupidity.

"Forget it. No point arguing with a streamer who's gone crazy chasing fame. Life has plenty of more meaningful things. It's not worth it…"

Just as Ah Hui was thinking this, Chen Mo's words came through the screen.

In an instant, Ah Hui was furious again.

"What do you mean, you don't mind?! The way you're talking, you're obviously questioning me! Damn it, this idiot scammer streamer—is he trying to turn this around and accuse me now?!"

What little goodwill he'd had left—thinking they were both from Anping City and that it'd be better to avoid trouble—was completely ignited.

"No. This can't just end like this."

Just as Ah Hui was about to unleash his ultimate move again, something occurred to him.

He remembered that the platform—Uncle Site—had recently rolled out a new feature in the livestream section. Viewers could apply for a voice or video call with the streamer, and once the streamer approved it, they could connect live.

This was heaven-sent.

If he applied for a video call with this idiot streamer, it would not only solve the problem of typing with one hand, but also allow him to expose the streamer's true face in front of everyone in the livestream.

Heh heh.

"The best part of this plan is that there's no need to worry about the streamer rejecting or deliberately ignoring the request. Because once it reaches that point, who's real and who's fake—anyone with half a brain will be able to tell at a glance."

For Ah Hui, the only slightly annoying thing was that this feature required him to follow the streamer first.

But that wasn't a problem. Once everything was settled, he could just unfollow.

Ah Hui edited another highlighted message and sent it out, then immediately clicked Apply for Video Call, sneering as he waited for the streamer to reveal his true colors.

"Video call?"

Chen Mo, who had been waiting for quite a while without seeing any new messages and was about to assume the other party was just there to stir trouble, paused when he saw the highlighted comment.

Could this guy really have been attacked by Butterfree?

Sensing that there might be more to this, Chen Mo decisively accepted the video call request.

Very soon—

A young man lying on a hospital bed appeared on Chen Mo's screen. His body was almost completely wrapped in bandages, his appearance utterly miserable.

"Heh. Didn't expect a liar like you to actually dare accept a video call."

Ah Hui opened with a mocking remark.

"But that's fine too. See this? All these injuries on my body—they're from those so-called gentle Butterfree you keep talking about. And if you still want to play tough and refuse to believe it, I can call my attending doctor over right now to prove it."

"I'm from Anping City too, and I'm currently lying in the Central Hospital."

His confident tone, combined with the undeniable image on screen, immediately energized many viewers watching the livestream.

[This guy's ruthless—first move and he checkmates the streamer.]

[So monsters really are monsters. I almost believed the streamer before. Gentle, my ass—look at those injuries, he nearly died.]

[Justice explosion kill, let's go!]

[The streamer's probably stunned. Not only did a heckler show up, it's even a fellow townsman. That's basically ironclad evidence—no hometown mercy at all.]

[Ironclad my ass. Only locals scam locals. Anyone who believes this streamer has something wrong with their brain.]

[Things are getting interesting now.]

[Support this guy. Streamers like this need to be exposed—otherwise, if someone actually listens to him and goes raising monsters, the consequences would be unimaginable.]

[Bloodbath! Bloodbath!]

Chen Mo glanced at Ah Hui's injured hands on the screen and roughly understood why it had taken him so long to send a message earlier. The Butterfree attack was probably real.

However…

Every cause has its effect, and many things couldn't be judged by appearances alone.

"May I ask how I should address you?" Chen Mo asked politely.

Heh. At this point, you're still trying to get chummy with me?

Ah Hui lifted his chin slightly, his eyes filled with disdain as he looked at Chen Mo.

"My name's Ah Hui. Use whatever tricks you've got—I'll take them all!"

"Alright. Ah Hui, then. I have a few questions for you, and I hope you'll answer them honestly."

Chen Mo didn't beat around the bush.

"Since you're certain it was Butterfree that attacked you, may I ask where exactly the attack took place? And what were you doing at the time?"

"Evergreen Forest Park in Chuanshu City. I'm a camping enthusiast. That night, my friends and I were resting in the tents we'd set up, and then we were suddenly attacked by butterfly demons."

"I see. Then could you walk me through things in more detail? From the moment you arrived at Evergreen Forest Park up until the attack—where did you go, and what did you do in between?"

"Still not giving up, huh? Fine. I'll make sure you lose completely."

Ah Hui let out a cold laugh.

According to his account, although he'd agreed to the camping invitation, he was well aware that times were different now. He and his friends hadn't acted recklessly like before, diving into deep mountains and old forests. Instead, they chose a forest park with a relatively high safety rating.

They even took the initiative to avoid monsters—never venturing deep inside, and only staying in the flat, gentle areas on the outskirts of the park.

A forest park left untended for a long time, with no tourists, allowed Ah Hui and the others to once again feel the natural instincts that had long been suppressed by the steel-and-concrete city.

And by sheer luck, they found an exceptionally beautiful man-made flower field. The enchanting fragrance and breathtaking scenery caused them to linger there, playing and relaxing among the flowers for quite some time.

By the time they came back to their senses, dusk was approaching. After discussing it, they set up their temporary tents on a flat patch of grass near the flower field.

Not long after that—

They were attacked by Butterfree.
