Derek's
I turned and walked away from the dining room as soon as I pulled my lips back from hers. I felt a strange heat on my face. I had meant for the kiss to be short, but I had let it last for one heartbeat longer than I should have. My mind was spinning as I moved down the long hallway. The house was quiet, and the dim lights overhead made the corridors look even longer than they actually were. I felt a small smile start to touch my mouth, and I didn't even try to stop it.
That smile was a problem. It was real, and it was something I did not want to feel. It was the first time I had smiled because of another person in many years. I was an Alpha, a leader of my kind, and I was not supposed to be soft. Especially not for her.
