Context: in this chapter, Jay is interrogating Keifer, Keigan, and Yuri. All in one room. ✨🌟✨
Keifers pov: ❋❋❋
The interrogation room was quiet.
Too quiet.
Across the table sat Detective Jay, flipping through a file like she was hoping the answers would magically appear between the pages.
To her right sat Yuri, looking far too relaxed for someone currently suspected of murder.
And next to me was my brother.
Keigan looked like he wanted to disappear into the chair.
I leaned back, watching Jay carefully.
She had that same focused expression again. Brows slightly drawn together, eyes scanning the pages like she was trying to solve a puzzle.
Honestly… it was kind of impressive.
She set the file down.
"We're going over your timelines again."
Keigan nodded immediately.
"Okay."
Yuri didn't seem bothered.
I just watched.
"Again?" Yuri asked.
"Yes," Jay replied flatly.
She looked between the three of us.
"Your stories still don't match."
I glanced sideways at Yuri.
"That sounds like a him problem."
Yuri scoffed.
"Funny. I was thinking the same thing about you."
Jay rubbed her temple.
"Let's focus."
Keigan shifted awkwardly beside me.
"Yeah," he muttered. "Focus sounds good."
Jay turned to Yuri.
"You said you left the mansion at ten."
"I did."
"But we have footage showing someone near the driveway at 10:12."
Yuri raised an eyebrow.
"And you think that was me?"
"I'm asking."
He leaned forward slightly, resting his arms on the table.
Then he smiled.
"You know," Yuri said, "you're very serious for someone who looks like they should be smiling more."
I blinked once.
Keigan slowly turned toward him.
"Dude," he whispered.
Jay stared at Yuri.
"Are you flirting with me during a murder investigation?"
Yuri shrugged.
"Maybe."
I couldn't help it.
A quiet laugh slipped out.
"Bold strategy."
Yuri shot me a look.
"Jealous?"
I tilted my head slightly.
"Not particularly."
Beside me, Keigan shifted again.
"I really feel like I shouldn't be here for this part."
Jay ignored all of us and looked back at Yuri.
"Answer the question."
He sighed.
"No, that wasn't me. I left earlier."
"Your timeline says ten," she reminded him.
"It was around ten."
I leaned forward slightly now.
"Funny," I said.
Both Yuri and Jay looked at me.
"Because I remember you leaving later than that."
Yuri's eyes narrowed.
"Your memory isn't exactly reliable right now."
"And yours is?"
For a moment, the room went quiet.
Keigan raised his hand halfway.
"Quick question."
No one looked at him.
He lowered it again.
"Never mind."
Jay closed the file and looked at all three of us.
Three suspects.
Three different stories.
She exhaled slowly.
"Let's try this again."
I leaned back in my chair, watching her.
We made brief eye contact.
"Tsss."
Jay furrowed her eyebrows. She looked absolutely petrified as she tilted her head down, a slight blush appearing on her face.
I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from smiling.
Detective Jay cleared her throat and quickly looked back down at the file, pretending to read something important.
Interesting.
I leaned back in my chair, folding my arms.
Across the table, Yuri noticed it too.
"Oh?" he said quietly, a teasing tone slipping into his voice.
Keigan groaned under his breath.
"Please don't start."
Jay snapped the folder shut.
"Focus." she said sharply.
But the faint blush still didn't leave her face.
