Joji, Daisy, and Lena gave Alaric a quiet nod. Alaric, innocent in his own way and nowhere near as shameless as the two adult actors from Earth, had no real grasp of what had just passed between them, so he only nodded back and left it there.
Lena, however, had already turned her thoughts elsewhere.
She had seen Clarisse.
For someone like Lena, it was never hard to pick apart the heart of a pure woman.
Clarisse sat by the carriage pretending to wait for the meal, yet the book in her hands was upside down, which ruined the act before it even began.
Lena approached without hurry, then leaned in and blew softly against her ear. Clarisse shivered and turned at once.
She was a poor liar. Guilt, disbelief, jealousy, and curiosity were all written too plainly across her face.
Lena had known her cousin too long to miss any of it.
So she slipped into an easy, familiar warmth and draped an arm around Clarisse's neck.
