Cherreads

Chapter 96 - Nava's blight

Both me and Ramiris had heard her but silently agreed to not mention it.

Ramiris pretended to hate Milim due to her rash and childish nature but she was clearly happy to see Milim seem so unburdened.

The other reason we didn't say anything is because we could feel the sadness that was coming off of her.

"Ok, what else is there to see?" Milim immediately changed back to her cheery self.

I patted her head and we walked further through Black haven.

Milim had begun to indulge in all the delicacies of the town. There were BBQ rolls that Milim completely engorged herself on.

At some point Orion and Nox, sensing our presences had come to greet us personally.

"Milord, is there something you wanted here?" Orion had greeted me.

"No there's nothing that is needed."

Orion was prepared to leave but Nox being the irrational one had decided on a different direction, "So you're a demon lord? How about a fight then?"

Milim didn't hesitate on the challenge and happily readied her fist.

"On second thought Orion, I think that damage control should be a priority."

Orion sighed, I looked on in laziness and Ramiris panicked.

————————————————

Containing the fight between Milim and Nox was not easy, especially considering that both of their ultimate skills were focused on mass chaos and destructive rage.

It took the destructive power of Orion to counteract them and the grayfog to separate the fight from everyone and everything else.

"Are you two done now?" I glared down as Milim looked away in shame while kneeling down on the floor.

"Yeah we're done." Nox replied shamelessly.

" I'm not done with you yet." My stern voice made Nox flinch.

" Simon, I can explai-"

" Quiet!" I looked down to Milim who like she was about to cry, " You promised me that you would be able to behave yourself and at the first challenge, you decided to do the immature thing and accept it."

"I-I'm… sorry." Milim couldn't refute him when he had already addressed the excuses she was gonna give to justify her actions.

To everyone's surprise, I picked up the Milim and carried her in my arms. I turned to Nox to apologize and we left Black haven.

"You're not gonna punish her?" Ramiris spoke awkwardly while Milim showed her a smug grin.

Ramiris never pegged me for the tolerant type, even if they were true demon lords.

" She's been extremely well behaved until now, it would be rude to fault her for one mishap. And in her defense, she was the one who was challenged… and by my surbordinate no less."

My response made Milim feel warm inside, her expression of smug had turned into a blush and to hide it, she hid deeper into my shoulder.

The last location was Equinox, a religious city with very contrasting colours.

A floating archipelago in a manufactured heaven and hell. This was a place where virtue and sin merge into one.

Floating islands drift slowly, some adorned with crystalline cathedrals of light, others with jagged obsidian fortresses.

The archipelago held alot of religious architecture. The inhabitants were quite literally opposite each other but they were extremely friendly.

" This place is extremely… weird." Milim spoke aloud which Ramiris agreed.

While Black haven messed with your sense of direction and the physics of the world. This place messed with your head and sense of self.

The fusion of such contrast would mess with anyone's head.

There were restaurants where demons were serving angels. Where Angels were learning politics from demons.

We even saw demons and angels perform physical and spiritual operations on each other, this was a division in Equinox that Kevin approved for Nyx.

This created a corp of demons and angels that specialized in healing magic and had high expertise in the material and spiritual body.

Truth be told, aside from Milim finding a new friend in Yuura due to their similar personalities, we didn't stay here for long.

————————————————

We decided to end the tour with the astral clocktower where we decided to rest.

In my throne room was the greatest spectacle of all. Behind my throne was the scenery of a kaleidoscope of Celestial objects, some of them shrouded in fog.

The throne was at the edge of this celestial scenery. One slip and one would fall off into the abyss, lost to the cosmos for eternity with no way of navigating… except for Simon.

Milim leaned her body on the side of the throne and hung her legs of the ledge while enjoying the branching stars that connected to this place.

"Are you ok?" Milim was caught off guard by my voice.

"Don't scare someone like that you meanie!"

I smiled at her adorable outburst, "I'm sorry, but you didn't answer my question."

Milim looked back to the stars, "I'm fine. Why wouldn't I?"

"Can you say that while looking me in the eyes?"

Milim was harder to read than most people think, her cheery personality is just a smokescreen for the underlying pain.

"You're afraid of me, aren't you? Not because of my power but because of my ability to peel away at that meticulously crafted veil of yours. Tell me what did you see when I struck you back at Walpurgis."

"I-I don't want to."

Milim felt the presence get closer and perch sit-down next to her.

"You know Milim, I already know what you felt back then, I just want to know how much you felt back then. The art I used was made to experience those things. You don't have to trust me but you have to talk to someone about this."

I looked over to my right and Milim's head was downcast and there were tears flowing.

" Simon, do you think that I'm a terrible person?"

" Terrible is a subjective term and frankly I don't know you that well to judge."

" What if I told you that I had caused an immense amount of destruction all for my own selfish gain." Milim talked slowly, almost like she was in pain.

" AHH, you relieved the events of your ascension to demon lord, the subsequent revival and murder of the chaos dragon… and then your outrage that caused a battle between you, Guy and Ramiris."

Milim flinched at the fact I knew so much, " Y-yes."

" No. It's different this time. The art made you relive events in alternate timelines."

I continued, " This time you were on the receiving ends of those actions, that destruction. Now you're not only feeling depressed about losing your friend but also remorse for ruining so much lives. Tell me how much I've gotten right." I gave a gentle smile.

Milim tried to say something to me but it seemed as if something was caught in her throat, she staggered back and forth trying to stabilise herself.

I opened my arms which Milim jumped at the chance to hide her face as she began ugly crying.

" I'm sorry Milim, it was just cruel of me to do that to you."

Milim finally got a few words out, " You're the worst."
