Chapter 145 - The Power of Odin

Loki was born the son of Laufey, King of the Frost Giants, but he was born no larger than a human infant.

Compared to other Frost Giants, he was too small. Laufey considered him a disgrace and kept him hidden away, never showing him to anyone.

Later, when Asgard went to war with the Frost Giants, Laufey was defeated by Odin and forced to retreat to Jotunheim. In his haste, he left Loki behind.

Odin discovered and secretly adopted Loki, using Asgardian magic to transform Loki's appearance to match that of the Aesir.

Odin's original plan was to use Loki to forge an alliance between Asgard and Jotunheim and achieve peace. This was why he told the young Loki that he was "born to rule."

But the "king" Odin spoke of was only the King of Jotunheim.

Initially unaware of his true identity, Loki believed Odin meant he was destined to be the God King of Asgard. This drove his lifelong rivalry with Thor.

To seize the throne, Loki committed countless atrocities. He instigated the Frost Giants to infiltrate Asgard and disrupt Thor's coronation ceremony, and later manipulated Thor into attacking Jotunheim, causing Thor to lose his divine power.

On the surface, Loki delighted in mischief and was renowned for his sharp tongue. His volatile moods made it impossible for anyone to truly understand his thoughts.

But inside, he was gloomy and sensitive, his emotions shattered. He craved familial love, yet was ignored by Odin and others. Though he remained silent on the surface, his heart was wracked with pain.

Unable to bear living in Thor's shadow, Loki vented his frustration through mischief. After repeated, failed attempts to gain Odin's recognition, he finally learned the truth of his origin.

Upon discovering he was a "monster orphan" and an "adopted son," Loki was consumed by intense self-loathing and inferiority.

In the original plot, he even betrayed his biological father, Laufey, and attempted to use the Bifrost to destroy all of Jotunheim, all to prove himself to Odin.

He just wanted his father—Odin—to love him again.

Unfortunately, the answer he ultimately received only left him disappointed, leading him to plunge into the abyss of despair.

At that moment, Loki's heart must have been completely broken.

I suppose this is the essence of "the most pitiful people are often the most hateful."

Han Shaoqing would never trust someone as fickle as Loki. He was only in Asgard to "check in," and he only spoke to Loki because his identity could be useful.

"It doesn't matter how I know. What matters is, do you want to walk the path Odin has laid out for you, or do you want to become the King of Asgard?"

"And what do you stand to gain from this?"

Feeling the pressure on him suddenly lift, Loki rose and stared directly at Han Shaoqing. He didn't believe the man was being so generous for no reason.

"To trample Odin and Asgard beneath my feet. That's what I want," Han Shaoqing said bluntly.

"Not a chance."

Though Loki harbored resentment and anger toward Odin and Thor, he still considered Odin, Frigga, and Thor his family, and Asgard his home. After all, he had lived there for over a thousand years. Compared to Jotunheim, Loki felt a far stronger sense of belonging to Asgard.

Though he desired to rule and destroy, he would always fight to defend his homeland when Asgard was in peril.

"You're quite brave, aren't you?"

Han Shaoqing praised him, then grabbed Loki by the neck and hurled him off the Bifrost.

He didn't kill him because he had once liked the character.

As for whether Loki would survive, Han Shaoqing felt the odds were high.

Despite his frequent failures, Loki always seemed to survive until the end. That was Loki's special destiny.

After dealing with Loki, Han Shaoqing used transformation magic to take on Loki's appearance and then seized Heimdall's Bifrost Steel Sword.

The Bifrost Steel Sword could open the Bifrost, making it a fairly decent weapon. As for Heimdall, Han Shaoqing left him alone, letting him lie there while he set up an illusion array in the teleportation chamber.

Next, Han Shaoqing, now transformed into Loki, swaggered into Asgard.

As the pinnacle of power in the Nine Realms, Asgard's Palace of the Gods was magnificent and luxurious, filled with resplendent golden buildings. It featured not only various forms of magic but also some high-tech items.

The people of Asgard were considered Aesir. Their lifespans were generally quite long, with those around 1,000 years old still considered young. They could live up to 5,000 years, and their physical constitutions were, on average, three times stronger than those of humans.

The Aesir were not true gods, but they were very different from ordinary creatures.

According to the comic book lore, about 4 billion years ago, a powerful deity known as the Creator used Earth's own life energy, combined with his own power, to create a batch of living beings.

These beings were called the Elder Gods.

Among the Elder Gods, there were four exceptionally powerful beings: Cthulhu, Set, Gaia, and Haphas.

Each of these four possessed power enough to influence multiple parallel universes.

Later, the Serpent God Set discovered that consuming his own kind would make him stronger. This sparked a great war of mutual devouring among the Elder Gods. Gaia, however, chose not to devour her kin. Instead, she summoned the Creator back and, with the Maker, gave birth to Atum, the God-Eater.

Atum was incredibly powerful. Upon his birth, he immediately killed a vast number of Elder Gods who had devoured their own kind. This forced the remaining Elder Gods to flee Earth en masse to save their lives, leaving only Gaia to remain permanently.

After releasing the massive amount of divine power he had absorbed through slaughter, Atum entered the sun. Gaia then used this released divine power to create many special beings—the Earth Gods. This included the Norse, Greek, Egyptian, and Eastern pantheons.

In the comics, the origins of these pantheons have been revised, and their creation is now uniformly attributed to Gaia. Thus, in Marvel Comics, Gaia is also known as the Mother of All Gods. The Asgardians she created are clearly no ordinary beings.

In the comics, Asgardians possess exceptionally long lifespans and grow stronger as they age—meaning the older they get, the more powerful they become.

The Asgardian lineage of Odin does not originate from a "First Generation Family," but is instead the result of at least three generations of succession, culminating in Odin's own line.

Before Odin, there was his father, Bor, and his grandfather, Buri.

This three-generation lineage established the foundation for Odin, the All-Father of the Norse Mythology series, and explains the origin of his power.

The divine power now known as the "Power of Odin" is not a "racial power" inherent to all Asgardians, but rather a "hereditary divine power" exclusive to Odin's family—a unique ability of the Asgardian royal bloodline.

This inherited power is named specifically for each "King": the Power of Buri, the Power of Bor, and the Power of Odin.

Because Odin's ancestors were directly connected to the divine power of the Goddess Gaia, this bloodline-inherited power only appears within Odin's lineage.

For the other Asgardians, their origins did not involve the Goddess Gaia. They were born naturally and, while their physical constitutions were influenced by the divine lineage, they did not inherit the divine power.

Strictly speaking, the transmission of divine power is a process of awakening and strengthening based on the strength of the bloodline host.

Therefore, this power itself had no name. Instead, it was named after each successive inheritor, from Buri to Odin, and eventually to Thor.

As the divine power was passed down through generations, it grew more immense over time, resulting in each generation of the Asgardian gods becoming stronger than the last.

However, every advantage comes with a cost.

While the inheritance of divine power allows descendants to become stronger, not everyone can withstand it.

Take Odin, for example. He fell into Odin's Sleep not because of weakness, but because he had accumulated so much power that his body could no longer contain it. He needed to enter a state of dormancy to stabilize the raging Power of Odin within him.

Otherwise, if the Power of Odin were to erupt, it would mean Odin's death.

After Odin passed away, the Power of Odin was passed down to Thor. This explains why Thor, whenever pushed to the brink in the movies, can become stronger simply by thinking of his father.

In a sense, while Odin's lineage is far inferior to true gods representing cosmic laws like Death and Eternity, they cannot be considered ordinary beings either. They are more like special creatures possessing a portion of divinity.

Though Odin appeared weak, the divine power accumulated within him was unprecedentedly immense. Among Skyfathers, he undoubtedly ranked among the very top.

Checking in on Odin in such a state would surely yield an incredibly rich reward.

Han Shaoqing walked step by step into Asgard's Golden Palace. The Asgardian warriors around him, however, saw only the Acting All-Father, "Loki," and bowed one after another.

Perhaps because they hadn't faced a major war in years, the Palace of the Gods' defenses seemed lax. No wonder the Dark Elves could so easily attack Asgard in *Thor: The Dark World*.

As the saying goes: *Born of hardship, one thrives; born of luxury, one perishes.*
