In the restaurant, Chen Ye calmly picked up his phone and answered the call, looking at Natasha and Coulson, who were sitting opposite him and looking uneasy.
Four burly men stood behind them, watching them. There was Old Ma, with his full head of white hair, Master Ye, leaning on a cane, Deadpool, wearing a red hood and desperately taking photos behind Natasha, and the only relatively normal one might be John Wick, who was wearing a suit and looked pretty handsome.
To call these four people "burly men" might be an insult to the word "burly men". Four strange and bizarre men? Thinking of this, Chen Ye was amused by himself.
"Hello, Mr. Chen Ye. Let me introduce myself, I am Nick Fury, Director of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division." Nick Fury introduced himself on the other end of the phone.
"Hello, what business does Director Nick Fury have with a nobody like me?" Chen Ye asked, feigning ignorance.
"Mr. Chen Ye, you are far from a nobody. Chen Ye, your father died in a gang fight when you were 10 years old, so you were raised by the godfather, Kingpin, for all these years."
"You started working as a mercenary at the age of 18, during which time, no less than 1,000 niggers died at your hands, you have a very serious case of racial discrimination. Until last year, you graduated from Cornell University's School of Business Administration, and then you took over the restaurant and apartment left by your father and renamed it Good Luck Restaurant."
"When you were working part-time at the age of 18, you met Pietro Maximoff and Wanda Django Maximoff, the two siblings who were fleeing the war, and you adopted them."
"In just a year, you've taken control of five blocks in Hell's Kitchen. That's something many gangs can't achieve."
"And not long ago, you saved Tony Stark and made a fortune in the stock market. I'm very curious how you knew Stark Industries' stock would fall."
"Furthermore, you've become one of the elders of the High Table. At such a young age, your achievements are remarkable. You have a bright future ahead."
Nick Fury recounted Chen Ye's life with impressive detail.
"It seems like you're violating my personal privacy."
Chen Ye knew this was Nick Fury flexing.
Nick Fury was showing him how powerful SHIELD's intelligence network was. If SHIELD wanted to, they could find out what color underwear Chen Ye was wearing today and how many times he went to the bathroom.
"We're just doing our duty. You know our responsibility is to protect the world's safety. We need to ascertain whether everyone poses a threat to the nation and the world. Everything we do is for world peace," Nick Fury said righteously.
Chen Ye saw someone brazenly claim that monitoring other people's privacy was for the sake of protecting the world for the first time. He could only say, as expected of Nick Fury, as expected of the most despicable person in Marvel.
"You're trying to put a big label on me. I'm not some kind of racist, I just hate those who kill innocent people and have no morals. Every time, victims come to me with evidence, and I've never killed anyone. Those people all died by accident, don't talk nonsense. It just so happens that most of those criminals are [N-word]."
"Those people made mistakes and can be left for the law to judge, instead of being executed by you. You are defying federal law," Nick Fury accused.
"If the federal government was really useful, there wouldn't be so many innocent people seeking revenge, nor would Hell's Kitchen exist. Justice delayed is justice denied."
Chen Ye seemed to want to stop this meaningless topic and said, "Alright, you agents, I believe you know what you are, you are just wolves in sheep's clothing. Let's talk about the reason for this phone call today."
"Alright, my intention today is simple. I'll help you conceal the whereabouts of the superpowered siblings. In exchange, you release Agent Natasha and Agent Coulson, as well as the agents outside, and I can pretend nothing happened."
Nick Fury still felt that as the director of SHIELD, he was giving Chen Ye the greatest respect by personally negotiating with him.
Chen Ye listened to this insincere condition: "It seems Director Nick Fury doesn't care much about his subordinates. I think it's fine for them to lie there. Tomorrow, I'll call a bunch of media to come and take pictures and let them see what the federal agents look like. I believe there are many people who are willing to add insult to injury for a department like SHIELD that is so unpopular."
Chen Ye stood up and walked out of the restaurant, putting his phone on speaker. There was no one else on the street besides the agents lying on the ground, so the sound from the phone was enough for all of them to hear.
After doing this, Chen Ye once again asked Nick Fury: "Director Nick Fury, do you want to re-evaluate your offer? One million dollars for each agent, isn't that too much? As for Natasha and Coulson, because they threatened me with their words, they greatly hurt my young and fragile heart, so ten million each."
On the other end of the phone, Nick Fury clutched his heart heavily, as if he had been dealt a heavy blow. He said with difficulty, "You're joking, Mr. Chen. One million for one person, and you're asking twenty million for two more? That adds up to over a hundred million dollars. SHIELD will absolutely not pay over a hundred million for this."
"Don't worry, Director Nick Fury, I forgot to tell you that I'm on speakerphone right now, and every word you've said has just been accidentally heard by all the agents outside," Chen Ye said into the phone.
Then, he squatted down beside one of the agents and deliberately said to him, "Look at how stingy your director is. You risk your lives for SHIELD, but in his eyes, you're not even worth a million. I feel sorry for you. If I were you, I'd quit right now."
Nick Fury on the other end of the phone didn't expect Chen Ye to be so malicious at such a young age. Hearing this obvious attempt to sow discord, he almost couldn't catch his breath. He gritted his teeth and said, "What exactly do you want, Mr. Chen? Do you want us to level Hell's Kitchen? Give me a more sincere offer." Just as the two were talking on the phone, the police of Hell's Kitchen, driving their dilapidated police car, appeared again. The police always showed up so timely.
The police officer who came to Chen Ye to gather information was Chen Ye's old acquaintance, Gwen's father, George Stacy.
George Stacy stepped forward and asked Chen Ye, who was on the phone, "What's going on, Chen Ye? Can't you just take it easy? Why are there another group of people lying at the entrance of your restaurant today!"
Chen Ye saw the situation and could only cover the phone, saying to George Stacy, "This time, I didn't provoke them. It was a group of people claiming to be from SHIELD who insisted on taking Pietro and his sister away. I'm currently negotiating with the director of SHIELD. Don't bother me unless it's important."
George Stacy could only wait for Chen Ye to finish the phone call.
On the other end of the line, Nick Fury saw that Chen Ye wasn't speaking and could only say, "Mr. Chen, SHIELD has many collectibles, some mysterious, some from outer space. We can let you borrow one. And I can authorize a maximum of five million dollars. How does that sound?"
Nick Fury was good at playing his cards. SHIELD had a pile of collectibles, and he hadn't even figured them all out. Lending one out was no big deal. Besides, he didn't specify when it had to be returned.
Then, for the five million in compensation, he could later file a report to the World Security Council, saying the loss was several hundred million dollars, and then SHIELD's funding would be secured.
"Twenty million, two collectibles, and I get to choose them. I'll come visit on another day. Also, I have two more conditions. If you don't agree, I'll have the police take them away directly," Chen Ye said decisively.
Nick Fury could hear the determination in Chen Ye's voice, knowing this was the final offer.
And Chen Ye's offer wasn't unacceptable, but hearing the word "conditions," Nick Fury felt uneasy, like he was about to get on a pirate ship.
Chen Ye could only steel himself and say, "Tell me your two conditions first. Let me see if I can handle them."
Chen Ye looked at George Stacy beside him, then at the dilapidated police car and said, "First, the equipment in Hell's Kitchen's police department is quite old. Even if I donate money, look at our police cars, they've been in use for over a decade and are falling apart. SHIELD must have a lot of good equipment. Sponsor them. The request isn't high, just the equipment, weapons, and police cars you're retiring."
George Stacy, who had just finished understanding the situation from Master Ye and the others, didn't expect Chen Ye's request to be for their benefit. This made the public-spirited police chief both moved and happy.
He knew all too well how impoverished Hell's Kitchen's police department was. The city government seemed to have forgotten about their precinct, allocating only enough funds each year to cover normal salaries. There was nothing for promotions, raises, year-end bonuses, or equipment upgrades.
They were paid the lowest salaries and used the oldest weapons to deal with the most vicious criminals. This was the current state of Hell's Kitchen's police department. If it weren't for their sense of justice, who would be a police officer in Hell's Kitchen?
So, they all hated Hell's Kitchen and its people. Unexpectedly, the one who spoke up for them was precisely the person they hated the most. How could the police chief not be moved?
George Stacy looked around and saw that the other police officers who had heard the request were looking at Chen Ye with respect.
Nick Fury on the other end of the phone was stunned by Chen Ye's condition. He had thought it would be an excessive demand, but it was just this.
"No problem, I still have that much authority. We have a lot of equipment that gets phased out every year. I didn't expect Mr. Chen Ye to be so kind. Looks like we need to reassess you." Nick Fury readily agreed, nodding.
He hadn't expected this Chen Ye to have a positive side, that he wasn't just concerned with his own interests.
The intelligence reports were still a bit one-sided; maybe he could even be added to the Super Hero Initiative's reserve list.
Seeing that Nick Fury on the other end of the phone agreed so readily, Chen Ye also had Master Ye withdraw the gravity affecting all the agents. These agents slowly stood up amidst a chorus of groans.
At this moment, Natasha and Coulson joined the agent force.
"The last point, and the most important one," Chen Ye said sternly, sweeping his gaze across all the agents present.
