Chapter 131 - Professor X and Magneto

 Inside Xavier's School

Wolverine (Logan), Storm (Ororo), and Cyclops (Scott)—three members of the X-Men—formed a tight circle around Professor X (Charles).

Their eyes were filled with vigilance, their gazes burning like torches as they stared at the uninvited visitor before them, as if he might threaten Professor Charles at any moment.

"Everyone, relax. He won't hurt me. Erik, it's been a long time," Professor X's voice was gentle yet firm, breaking the tense atmosphere.

He offered a faint smile to the unwelcome guest—Magneto (Erik).

Magneto wore his specially designed helmet and a black cloak, his expression complex.

He gazed deeply at Professor X before slowly speaking, "You shouldn't have gotten involved in this, Charles."

Although Magneto didn't explicitly state what "this" was, Professor X knew exactly what he meant.

He was referring to the plan for Xavier's School to join the Avengers and assist S.H.I.E.L.D. in eliminating Chen Ye's presence in Hell's Kitchen.

Charles sighed softly, knowing Erik's concerns.

They had once been friends, but had parted ways over their differing ideologies.

Erik had always believed that humans and mutants could never coexist peacefully, while Charles remained steadfast in his belief that peace could be achieved through understanding and communication.

This was the fundamental rift between them, and the reason they could never truly reconcile.

"They promised," Charles said, his voice steady and resolute, as if describing a beautiful vision. "They promised that if we joined the Avengers, they would give mutants a true home—a place where we could hold our heads high, no longer misunderstood or rejected by the world. They even promised to establish a school for our kind, where our children could receive an education like anyone else and integrate into society."

Hearing this, Storm and Cyclops's expressions grew even more conflicted.

They never imagined that Charles had joined the Avengers for *them*—for the future of all mutants.

The revelation left them both moved and deeply worried, knowing how difficult this decision must have been for him.

However, Erik's words were like a bucket of cold water thrown over their hearts.

"Did they deliver on their promises? Where is the promised homeland? Where is the school? Why are you still here?" His tone carried a hint of dissatisfaction and disappointment.

Charles was momentarily stunned by the question, but he quickly regained his composure. He looked up at Erik, his eyes filled with unwavering determination.

"They said they would fulfill their promises after the mission is complete, Erik. I trust them."

But Erik utterly disagreed.

"You're so naive, Charles. Do you really think they care about the future of us mutants? They're just using you."

His words were laced with mockery and resentment, as if he were exposing a cruel reality.

"I don't need to tell you what kind of people those Federal Government officials are, do I? They're all the same—two-faced hypocrites. Believe me, if you were to destroy Hell's Kitchen right now..."

"...the next target would be us mutants. In the end, they're just afraid of anyone stronger than them."

"What promised homeland? What school? It's all a lie!"

Charles listened to Erik's words and remained silent for a moment.

He didn't argue or explain, just sitting quietly in his wheelchair as if lost in thought.

Wolverine puffed on his cigar, staring out the window with a complex expression in his eyes.

The ever-observant Cyclops looked at Charles with a worried expression. He didn't find anything wrong with Magneto's words.

"I trust them," Charles replied.

"You should know that Hell's Kitchen isn't as bad as you imagine, and I also know the Lord of Hell, Chen Ye. He's a decent young man, and his power is beyond your understanding," Magneto tried to persuade Charles further.

Charles hadn't expected Magneto to know Chen Ye, let alone have visited Hell's Kitchen. He looked at Erik in astonishment.

"You might laugh, but I once tried to recruit Chen Ye into the Brotherhood of Mutants," Magneto said with a wry smile.

"And what happened?" Wolverine asked for the first time.

Cyclops looked at Wolverine as if he were an idiot. Wolverine looked utterly bewildered, not understanding why everyone was staring at him like that.

"I lost. If Chen Ye hadn't shown me mercy, I might have died." Erik openly admitted his defeat.

These words stunned the four people present.

They never expected the incredibly powerful Erik to lose to someone else—and worse, to have his life spared by that very person.

This deepened their wariness of Chen Ye's strength and the situation in Hell's Kitchen.

"So, are you still going to lead your people to their deaths?" Erik asked, looking at Charles.

He had completely cast aside his pride, even confessing his crushing defeat at Chen Ye's hands, all to persuade Charles. He hoped Charles would face reality and stop blindly trusting in so-called promises and expectations.

However, Charles remained unmoved by Erik's words. He still declared firmly, "I will arrange everything."

Hearing Charles's reply, Magneto let out a bitter laugh.

"As always, no matter how many years pass, we're still as discordant as ever," he sighed.

He knew everything Charles did was for the good of mutants, but he was still as naive as ever.

"So you will lead the X-Men into this war, won't you?" Erik asked.

"Yes, we have no other choice," Professor X replied.

His voice was calm, yet it carried an unmistakable air of resolve and determination.

The moment he spoke, Magneto's aura erupted, like an invisible storm about to break.

The sheer pressure of his power forced Wolverine, Cyclops, and Storm to their guard, and they immediately formed a protective circle around Professor X.

However, Magneto did not attack them. Instead, he turned to leave the hall.

Just as he was about to step out, he cast a deep, lingering glance at Professor X and said, "Charles, you have always believed I was wrong. But this time, you are the one who is mistaken. The Brotherhood of Mutants will also be involved in this war."

Professor X's face registered surprise.

He couldn't understand why Magneto would decide to intervene when the Brotherhood had no direct stake in this conflict. Was he trying to help him?

But Magneto's next words left Professor X and his team even more stunned.

"But I will be fighting on the side of Hell's Kitchen, to stop you."

With that, he turned and walked out, leaving a bewildered Storm and Cyclops behind.

They looked at the now-solemn Professor X, silently asking what they should do.

Professor X knew that with Magneto's intervention, this war would only become more difficult.

"Where is there a place for us mutants to truly belong?"
