Chapter 8 - chapter 8: meeting his parents

It's been two weeks since Hailey became Hardin's wife and things haven't been easy for her. She hardly leaves the mansion not with all the work she had to do, she doesn't even get the chance to leave the mansion.

The only time she gets to go out is when she needs to buy groceries for the chef who would use it to torture her and coming to think of it, Hardin hasn't been eating at home, where has he been eating?

Probably a place where the food doesn't taste like poison.

Anyway... things are becoming easier with the chef because according to him, she is learning fast even though Hailey didn't know what she was learning fast.

Hailey was kind of sad because none of her colleagues in all her part time jobs had thought to call her when they saw she wasn't coming to work anymore but she had better things to worry about than them.

Today.. Hardin told her they were having dinner with his parents, she was shocked he wanted to introduce her to his parents cause she thought he hated her. It was quite obvious with the way he acted around her.

It's as if he hates seeing her smile, cause anytime she laughs he always finds a way to make her sad, Hailey wanted to know what enmity Hardin had towards her.

She had tried to search around the house for clues or anything, maybe her parents did something to him but absolutely nothing.

Guess it's just her bad luck.

"Don't tell me you're still getting ready" Hailey heard Hardin's voice as she tried to arrange her hair.

"I'm done" Hailey said quickly, she didn't want to anger him this evening, after all they were meeting his parents, if she can get them to like her then maybe things would be good for her.

She left her room and met a glaring Hardin, he stared at her with that dark gaze he always had on around her then he turned around and went downstairs.

"Is something wrong with my dress?" Hailey murmured before walking down the stairs, going after Hardin.

Hardin got into the car and Hailey made for the passenger sit but when she was about to open the door Hardin drove away and Hailey stood there shocked.

What the hell is wrong with this man?!

Hailey's phone chimed and she looked at the message from Hardin.

"Find your way there and you better be there in 20mins" Hailey read the message out and she bit her lips in frustration.

"I don't even know the address" Hailey replied and Hardin sent her the address and Hailey sighed.

He won't even let her in the car with him? Damn him!! It was already late and only a few taxis were around.

She managed to stop one and entered while showing the address to the man, he dropped her in front of an estate and she walked towards the estate gate.

The gate man there gave her a questioning look and she smiled at him, didn't Hardin think of this? He definitely won't let someone like her enter this huge estate.

"I'm supposed to meet someone here, the Anthony family" Hailey said politely and the man gave her a "are you kidding me?" gaze.

"You can't just walk in here ma'am, I suggest you leave" the man said and Hailey sighed, she knew this would happen.

She walked away from the gate and called Hardin, she didn't want to embarrass herself further by talking to the gate man but Hardin wasn't picking up the damn phone.

Did he intentionally do this?

After standing outside for almost an hour, the door opened and Hardin came out, he had a frown on his face when he saw Hailey sitting on a stool by the side of the gate.

"You finally remembered you have a wife," Hailey said with a mocking gaze.

"You're late," Hardin said darkly as he walked up to her in slow steps.

"And whose fault is that? Do you know how many times I called you but you chose to ignore me!" Hailey retorted and Hardin was taken back by her outburst.

"Do you know how embarrassing this is? I had to ask the gate man for a seat because his heels were killing me!" Hailey continued.

Hardin was shocked by the way she glared at him, he had been increasingly hard on her these days cause she didn't seem to mind all the efforts he was putting in making her life miserable.

And today she looked extremely beautiful in that blue dress that reminded of someone, the one person that is making him do this to her. He was mad how beautiful she was and how much she looked like her so he intentionally made her take a taxi and made her wait here.

He was sitting in his car as he watched every one of her calls enter his phone, her desperation was amusing because of the amount of times she was calling.

But her outburst right now, reminded him that Hailey wasn't her but a different person from her but that was only for a split second cause just looking at Hailey reminded him of everything he went through all over again.

He completely ignored Hailey and turned around walking towards the door and Hailey scoffed before walking behind him.

They walked for a while in silence as Hailey walked behind him scoffing every chance she got.

They stopped in front of a mansion and Hardin pushed the door open, entering the house and Hailey followed.

"You're here!" Erica said with a huge smile as she saw Hardin and she noticed Hailey behind him her eyes widened.

"Mom, meet Hailey" Hardin said nonchalantly but his mom remained rooted in her position unable to move because of the shock on her face.

"Hi ma'am, I am Hailey," Hailey said politely, smiling at the woman in front of her.

She was confused as to how the woman was staring at her but she couldn't quite decipher why?

Hardin was expecting his mom's reaction so he was ready for it but he wasn't ready for what happened next.

"Good evening dear, you look beautiful in that dress" Erica said as a huge smile played on her face and Hardin paused in shock while Hailey smiled back.

What's going on? Isn't she supposed to throw a fit when she sees Hailey?
