Seeing Sif had already left the combat zone, Qin Xiao yanked his arm and shifted his weight to the side.
The Destroyer's massive arm slid sideways and crashed to the ground with a deafening crash.
Seizing the opportunity while its balance was unstable, Qin Xiao dropped to one knee and slid his foot under the Destroyer's ankle.
*Boom!*
The Destroyer's colossal frame lost its balance and toppled over with a thunderous crash.
Qin Xiao wouldn't let this golden opportunity slip away.
Before the creature could turn around, he raised his fist and slammed it into the back of its head.
*Clang!*
The metal rang out, but the Destroyer remained completely unharmed. Qin Xiao, however, felt a sharp pain shoot through his knuckles.
Realizing his bare hands were useless against this metallic turtle shell, Qin Xiao casually wiped his right hand across his pants.
A Tang Dao slowly materialized from the void.
Of course, to outsiders, it looked as if Qin Xiao had pulled a long blade from his crotch.
Fandral stared in horror at the sword in his hand, then at his own trousers.
Asgard had many spells that could conjure weapons, but Qin Xiao had shown no trace of magic. Fandral couldn't figure out where the blade had come from.
Oblivious to Fandral's confusion, Qin Xiao lived by the principle of "strike while the iron is hot."
Qin Xiao drew his Tang Dao and began stabbing at the Destroyer on the ground.
With each strike, the blade slipped into the gaps between the Destroyer's metallic strips.
However, such physical damage had no effect on the Destroyer's hollow body.
Gritting his teeth, Qin Xiao swung the blade at one of the metallic strips.
The blade scraped across the metal, producing a grating screech and sparks.
After the difficult slash, Qin Xiao saw that the Tang Dao had left no mark on the metal.
He glanced at his recently upgraded Tang Dao with a pang of regret. Though the blade hadn't been damaged, he couldn't bring himself to use it again. He casually sheathed the sword.
Aiming at the Destroyer, which was about to twist its neck to turn its head back around, Qin Xiao punched it in its half-turned face, driving it back.
The spark that had just ignited in the Destroyer's head was extinguished as its face slammed into the ground.
*Crack! Crack!*
Whether driven by the Destroyer's combat instincts or Loki's command, the creature on the ground defiantly tried to turn its head again to unleash a blast of fiery energy at Qin Xiao.
Though his fist throbbed from the impact, Qin Xiao had no other effective methods to deal with this walking tank.
Seeing it dare to turn its head again, Qin Xiao brought his fist down once more.
"Go back where you came from!"
*Crack! Crack!*
"Thud!"
*Crack! Crack!*
"Thud!"
The two seemed locked in a stubborn struggle, one desperately trying to turn its head, the other stubbornly refusing to let it.
The Asgardian Trio and Sif, watching from the side, were utterly dumbfounded.
"Is this really the Destroyer that guards the vaults, the one Odin granted magical power to?" Fandral asked, his face pale with disbelief as he watched Qin Xiao repeatedly slam the Destroyer into the ground.
The others stared wide-eyed.
"Didn't we already test if it's the Destroyer? Thor, is this really Midgard, the world we're supposed to protect?" Hogun asked, his voice dazed as he tugged on Thor's arm.
"Earth is not as weak as we imagined. There are even beings here as powerful as my father." Thor recalled Qin Xiao's mention of his father's old friend, the Sorcerer Supreme.
"As powerful as Odin? Well! I retract my earlier contempt for them!" Hogun swallowed hard.
While the others were slowly coming to terms with Qin Xiao's strength, Qin Xiao himself was inwardly groaning.
This thing was a living turtle shell; no matter how he hit it, it was useless. If he kept this up, he might not even injure it, but his own fists would be ruined.
Even the most monstrous regeneration couldn't withstand this constant pummeling.
*Why can't that Thor guy sense his hammer?* Qin Xiao grumbled inwardly. *I've been acting so humble and well-behaved!*
As Qin Xiao was silently complaining, the Destroyer on the ground seemed to have had enough of being beaten.
Instead of stubbornly turning its head, it pressed its face flat against the ground and erupted in a violent burst of flames.
The force of the blast sent Qin Xiao's upper body arching backward in a high arc.
Qin Xiao, still dazed and mechanically throwing punches, was caught off guard when the Destroyer's head suddenly shot upward like it had been fitted with a rocket booster.
The sudden, unexpected movement sent Qin Xiao flying a considerable distance.
"Ptoo!"
Qin Xiao spat out a mouthful of sand.
Just as he was about to charge back up, planning to use his agility to re-engage the enemy, the Destroyer abruptly turned its back on him and marched straight toward Thor and the others.
"And now it's ignoring me?" Qin Xiao muttered, rubbing his throbbing wrist.
"Thor, do you have any divine artifacts like Mjolnir, or maybe Gungnir? Otherwise, I can't break through this turtle's shell!"
Thor's face twisted into a bitter grimace. *Gungnir? Don't be ridiculous, that's Odin's weapon.*
"If you don't, I'm out of ideas. You'd better get your power back quickly, preferably enough to lift that hammer. Otherwise, we're in serious trouble today!" Qin Xiao said as he leaped back to the group ahead of the Destroyer.
*If I could sense it, I would have lifted the hammer long ago. Why would I be struggling like this?*
Thor glanced at the people around him, gritted his teeth, and ran straight towards the Destroyer, ignoring Sif's attempts to stop him.
"Loki, I know you can hear me. Your target is me, isn't it? Leave them alone!"
"Brother, I know I was arrogant and proud before. If I did anything that hurt you, I'm truly sorry. But they're innocent!"
Thor's sincerity was palpable. These weren't just empty words; he had clearly spent the time reflecting on his past actions.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have told them from the start that he wasn't going back.
"Thor!"
A frantic shout came from behind.
It was Jane, who had seen the massive Destroyer outside the town and driven out in a panic.
"I'm fine!" Thor raised his hand, signaling Jane not to come any closer.
He was about to turn back and say something more to Loki when the Destroyer spun around and swung its arm, sending Thor flying through the air.
"Thor!"
Several people behind him cried out in alarm.
According to the script, after saying those words and taking another hit, Thor should have felt Mjolnir.
But this time, nothing happened. The battered Thor staggered to his feet.
A flash of fire erupted from the Destroyer's body as it lumbered toward Thor.
Jane and the Asgardians rushed toward him, their faces etched with tension.
Qin Xiao also wanted to intervene, but a shimmering golden portal suddenly materialized. A slender arm shot out, blocking his path.
