The Curse of Darkfall
This was the title of Jennifer's werewolf novel.
The men of the Darkfall family were all born tall, dark, and handsome, gifted with supernatural strength, speed, intelligence, and charisma. Those of the Darkfall lineage carried powerful alpha blood—and an equally powerful curse.
Any woman who took on the Darkfall name was doomed to die within a year.
Damien Darkfall had long resigned himself to this fate.
His mother had died in childbirth.
His twin sister died a year later.
While other wolves waited eagerly for life with their soulmates, Damien prayed he would never meet his.
Damien was, in Jennifer's own words, very broody and melodramatic. He was most often found on the rooftop contemplating his lot.
He had a beta named Ben, who was not shy about using his fists. Well, it seemed cool when she was writing it.
Damien also had a deeply rocky relationship with his Alpha father, Drake Darkfall—the current Alpha King.
As an Alpha King, Drake was imperious and exacting. He was the kind of majestic character that the room gravitated around. As a father… well, Damien had never known him as anything other than the Alpha King.
The rest of the story centered on the new girl at their high school: Fiona. The novel lovingly detailed her cute outfits, and how she was beautiful, studious, brave, and kind.
As an author, Jennifer worked very hard to show, not tell. Fiona was introduced to the class as a scholarship student. She rescued a fellow student—an omega wolf named Penny—from bullies.
And one evening, while walking home in the rain, she found an injured wolf lying weakly in a ditch. (Read Damien in his wolf form). Feeling sorry for it, Fiona left behind her favorite umbrella to give it shelter.
She then walked home in the rain, with only the quiet knowledge of having done something good to keep her warm on an otherwise cold and lonely day. Like the bright yellow umbrella, these small acts of kindness were meant to light up an otherwise dreary and dark world.
This was where the webnovel tragically ended.
The tragedy being that the author got distracted—and overwhelmed—by the very real problem of falling behind on rent.
Jennifer had to work extra hours at the convenience store. It wasn't even counter work. Mr. Kim was very apologetic.
"Usually, I only hire university boys to do this."
Who needed university boys to stock shelves? Well, Jennifer supposed it made sense if your convenience store was within walking distance of a university.
Anyway, Jennifer was still young then. Stocking shelves or whatever, she was grateful for the extra paid hours whenever she found herself in a pinch.
