Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Q New Leaf..

The next few days at school felt different.

Areeba walked into the classroom with the same calm expression, but inside she had already decided something — she would not get emotionally involved with anyone. She would talk politely, study sincerely, and go home quietly. Nothing more.

As she entered the class that morning, her eyes fell on a girl sitting in the front row. She looked confident… almost arrogant. Her posture was straight, her expressions sharp, and she barely smiled at anyone.

Areeba noticed her but quickly looked away.

Not my type of person, she thought.

At first, Areeba didn't want to talk to anyone. But surprisingly, her classmates approached her themselves. Despite her slightly cold behavior on the first day, they spoke kindly, asked about studies, and included her in small conversations.

Areeba appreciated their kindness but remained careful.

She believed she had done the right thing by maintaining distance. From her past experiences, she knew how things sometimes started. First friendship… then unnecessary closeness… and then confessions that complicated everything.

She hated that.

She had promised herself one thing:

she would never do anything that could make her parents lower their heads in disappointment.

Her parents' pride mattered more than temporary emotions.

So she decided clearly — no relationships, no unnecessary attachments. Just studies and self-respect.

Days passed.

Slowly, she began to adjust. Everyone around her seemed good-natured and simple. Conversations became easier. Smiles felt natural. And without realizing it, she started taking interest in small things around her.

One day, the same "arrogant-looking" girl approached her.

Her name was Noor.

At first, their conversations were formal. Short replies, simple exchanges. But gradually, something changed. The girl who seemed rude from a distance turned out to be warm and genuine.

Soon, Areeba and Noor became close.

They walked together between classes, shared lunch sometimes, and helped each other in studies. Teachers started recognizing Areeba for her sincerity and hard work. Her name slowly became known among staff as a disciplined and respectful student.

Life started feeling lighter.

Even Sami, the boy she had once spoken to so harshly, became part of her daily routine. Their interactions turned playful. Sami never liked being called "bro," but Areeba deliberately called him that every time.

"Sami bro, bring my notebook."

"Sami bro, I need help."

And before he could respond properly, Areeba would run away laughing. Sami would chase her across the corridor while she kept repeating, "Sami bro! Sami bro!"

Their classmates laughed at their childish fights.

For the first time in a long while,

Areeba was truly enjoying school.

She even began participating in games. In that town, girls rarely played cricket. It was considered unusual. Areeba didn't know much about the game, but she still joined her classmates. Sami and the others teased her playfully whenever she missed the ball.

But she played anyway.

Because the smiles around her made everything worth it.

Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. Areeba became friends with almost everyone — Noor, Sami, Sana, Wisha, and others. She spoke politely, behaved thoughtfully, and slowly allowed herself to feel comfortable again.

For the first time after a long period,

she stopped thinking about Isha.

She convinced herself that maybe she had just met the wrong person before. Maybe not everyone was the same. Maybe some people were genuinely kind.

Her new friends brought warmth back into her life. Their presence slowly healed the wounds she carried silently for years. Teachers appreciated her. Classmates respected her. Even at home, Mili noticed the change.

"You look happier now," Mili said one evening.

Areeba smiled.

"Yes… I think I am."

But Mili added gently,

"Just don't trust too easily again."

Areeba didn't think much about it. She believed she had grown wiser. She believed she could judge people better now. And most importantly, she felt safe.

Her life had finally turned a new page.

A page filled with laughter, friendship, and simple happiness.

When life finally gives you good people after pain…

should you trust again with an open heart, or protect yourself with distance?
