Chapter 95 - Chapter 95: The Real Alliance

By following the same method repeatedly, they completed several more hunts.

By noon, Icarus felt it was enough. The trio withdrew from the inner forest and returned to the outer ring.

"Three Kakuna, four Metapod. Not bad."

Sitting beneath a large tree and eating lunch, Icarus was extremely satisfied with his morning's harvest.

He didn't plan to sell the poison sacs or the bug meat. Thirty kilograms of Normal-grade insect meat was just right for Bellsprout and Pidgey.

For Pidgey, eating this would help accelerate energy accumulation and speed up its evolution.

Normal-grade poison sacs would also help Bellsprout practice and master Acid sooner.

"Even without selling those, just the outer shells and silk glands alone can sell for over twenty thousand… And that Arbok earlier — beautiful profit, just beautiful!"

While chewing his meat pie, he glanced at the blood-stained materials in his backpack. Instead of losing his appetite, he felt hungrier and ended up eating half a pie more than usual.

"Alright, Bellsprout, Pidgey. After lunch we'll head back to the Pokémon Center and complete the promotion mission first."

"Sprout~"

"Pidgey~"

The two Pokémon nodded obediently. They didn't really understand what a promotion mission meant — they just followed Icarus.

---

On the way back, they encountered several waves of Bug-types and a few Rattata.

Having grown used to field combat, Icarus didn't let easy prey escape.

As long as they weren't too far off the path, he captured or defeated them and added the materials to his backpack.

The journey back to the Pokémon Center was smooth.

Originally, Icarus had planned to hand in only one kilogram of Metapod shell to try and exploit a loophole — exchanging 200 Pokédollars' worth of material for a 6,000 Pokédollar mission reward.

Unfortunately, the mission officer at the Pokémon Center rejected the idea without hesitation.

"All materials must come from a single complete Pokémon."

"Figures," Icarus muttered with mock tears. "The Pokémon Center has been around too long to leave obvious loopholes."

In the end, he handed over one complete Metapod's materials.

Cost value: about 3,500.

Mission reward: 6,000 Pokédollars + 1 Alliance Merit point.

His trainer ID was immediately upgraded.

He was now officially qualified to take real Normal-level missions.

---

He quickly inserted his ID card into the self-service terminal.

"Beep — Identity confirmed.

Name: Icarus Aoki

Sex: Male

Age: 15

Trainer Rank: Normal-Level (Low Tier)

Alliance Merit: 5

Available Missions: 99+"

Without hesitation, he opened the mission interface.

"One-Star, Two-Star, Three-Star… So they're ranked."

He started browsing from the One-Star section.

After some time, he concluded that One-Star missions corresponded to beginner-level trainers. They weren't difficult but were time-consuming and tedious.

One example:

Mission No. 00024

Level: One-Star

Description: Assist security team in clearing wild Rattata from underground pipelines

Time Limit: 3–5 days

Reward: 10 Merit Points

5,000 Pokédollars

"Rattata in the town sewers again?" Icarus recalled seeing Rattata near his home before.

Fortunately, most town Rattata survived on garbage and scraps. Their combat ability was almost nonexistent — barely newborn-level.

Their meat and materials had almost no market value. No trainer wanted to waste time cleaning them up.

But for town stability, the Alliance had to act.

After all, large numbers of ordinary rodents could still cause serious damage. Worse, mutations could occur — occasionally producing high-tier Newborn-level or even Normal-level Rattata.

For civilians, that would be a nightmare.

---

Next, he opened the Two-Star missions.

Mission No. 00157

Level: Two-Star

Description: Capture an Oddish with at least Normal-grade aptitude

Time Limit: None

Reward: 15 Merit Points

10,000 Pokédollars

Mission No. 00174

Level: Two-Star

Description: Obtain Arbok fangs and one pair of poison sacs

Time Limit: None

Reward: 18 Merit Points

5,000 Pokédollars

After reviewing several listings, Icarus concluded that Two-Star missions were meant for low-to-mid Normal-level trainers.

The Alliance's pricing strategy was clever.

They offered slightly more than raw selling price — but still far less than retail store value.

From the capture-type missions, it was obvious many tasks were commissioned by families or individuals, not the Alliance itself.

The Alliance already had a Pokémon House stocked with common species. There was no need for them to outsource something like catching Oddish.

"So in the future, if I need something rare, I could issue a mission myself," Icarus murmured.

"But there must be requirements. Merit points are definitely necessary. The Alliance wouldn't pay for your personal shopping."

Another path to resource acquisition formed in his mind.

---

Finally, he opened the Three-Star missions.

By his estimation, these should correspond to high-tier Normal-level or even Elite-level trainers.

Mission No. 00259

Level: Three-Star

Description: Capture a Pinsir with at least Normal-grade aptitude

Time Limit: None

Reward: 40 Merit Points

50,000 Pokédollars

Icarus immediately understood.

Though both missions required capturing Normal-grade Pokémon, Oddish and Pinsir were on completely different levels.

Pinsir had powerful offensive ability, and its habitat lay deeper in the forest. The danger level was much higher.

If the mission required Newborn-level strength as a minimum condition, it would effectively be an Elite-level mission.

After all, talented Pokémon rarely wandered outside their territory before reaching Normal-level.

To obtain high-aptitude newborn Pokémon, one had to infiltrate their territory and take them directly.

Breaking into Pinsir territory without Elite-level strength?

That might be a one-way trip.

---

He continued scrolling and found another mission that caught his attention — not because he wanted to accept it, but because he wanted the item himself.

Mission No. 00675

Level: Three-Star

Description: Long-term purchase of Beedrill Honey

Time Limit: None

Reward: 10 Merit Points per kilogram

3,000 Pokédollars per kilogram

Beedrill honey was considered a natural treasure in the wild.

Long-term consumption could improve a Pokémon's aptitude.

It was almost never available in stores. The official price was listed at 2,000 per kilogram — but ordinary people couldn't buy it.

Whenever it appeared, it was immediately purchased by powerful families in town.

Icarus leaned back in his chair.

Only now did he truly understand.

This — this mission system — was the real Alliance.

Not just protection and order.

But a massive resource network, carefully balancing risk, strength, and reward.

And he had just stepped into it.
