Chapter 57 - Chapter 57 – Yukinoshita Yukino’s Chuunibyou

After finishing reading the comments, he realized it was already getting late.

Tanaka Masao, who had planned this out long ago, casually dumped his free stat points into Constitution.

For now, this was the most suitable stat for him.

Society was relatively stable at the moment—raw strength and agility didn't have much practical use.

Besides, he had battle armor. He wasn't exactly afraid of danger.

Tanaka Masao had also considered putting points into Luck.

But that stat was just too metaphysical. Even if he invested in it, the effect might end up being the same as not investing at all.

So he might as well put the points into something tangible, like Constitution.

He trained intensely every day, and that kind of workload inevitably caused wear and tear on the body.

With higher Constitution, he wouldn't have to worry about that.

As the stat points were allocated, a warm current surged through Tanaka Masao's entire body.

The tingling, numbing sensation made him feel incredibly refreshed.

It felt like his whole body was being rewarded—an indescribably wonderful feeling.

The pleasant sensation lasted for several minutes before finally fading.

Tanaka Masao stretched a bit.

"Ah… it's like I just got eighteen years younger."

Factory settings restored, basically.

...

Monday.

Today, Jahy was going to school.

By the time Tanaka Masao arrived at the Service Club in the afternoon, he immediately noticed that Yukinoshita Yukino was in a rather foul mood.

After spending a week together—and thanks to Yukinoshita Yukino's relentless feeding—she had grown much closer to Jahy.

Just when she was about to take things one step further and finally touch those long-coveted cat ears, Jahy left.

Once Jahy started attending school, Yukinoshita Yukino practically lost all opportunities to see her.

How could that not make her sad?

She had been this close to success.

Seeing Yukinoshita Yukino looking a bit absent-minded, Tanaka Masao more or less guessed what was on her mind.

[Jahy, you really are burdened with grave sins.]

He decided to shift Yukinoshita Yukino's attention.

"Yukinoshita-san, did you know? After persistent effort, I've already lost almost five kilograms."

"Oh. Is that so?"

Yukinoshita Yukino responded perfunctorily, without showing much emotion.

"You're so cold, Yukinoshita-san. At a time like this, shouldn't you be feeling a sense of accomplishment and at least look a little happy?"

Hearing that, Yukinoshita Yukino finally snapped out of it. She tilted her head slightly and looked at Tanaka Masao with some confusion.

"Happy? Why would I feel happy?"

Tanaka Masao stopped his training movements and looked at Yukinoshita Yukino with the eyes of someone staring at a heartless woman.

"Yukinoshita-san, how can you be so cruel?"

Yukinoshita Yukino said nothing, merely watching Tanaka Masao's performance in silence.

"Yukinoshita-san, no matter how you look at it, I'm the only client the Service Club has had so far, right? And in one go, I've basically provided half a year—maybe even a full year—worth of performance."

"Stop!"

Yukinoshita Yukino interrupted him, frowning.

"The way you're talking feels strange. Clients, performance—it sounds like running a business.

I accept requests solely for the sake of my ideals. The Service Club doesn't need so-called performance metrics.

However, one thing you said isn't wrong. I do feel a sense of accomplishment.

Watching Tanaka-kun become more and more like a normal human being under my training, I can't help but admire how amazing I am.

Being able to achieve the great feat of reforming a human… could it be that I'm actually a god?"

Looking at Yukinoshita Yukino, who seemed utterly serious about it, Tanaka Masao suddenly burst out laughing.

"I've always thought that you might be a bit chuunibyou, Yukinoshita-san."

He had long been blinded by Yukinoshita Yukino's cool demeanor and elegance.

But thinking about it carefully—talking about changing the world, constantly emphasizing how outstanding and cute she is, and now outright calling herself a god—

No matter how you looked at it, this was textbook chuunibyou behavior.

Smiles don't disappear. They're merely transferred.

When a smile appeared on Tanaka Masao's face, the smile that had been on Yukinoshita Yukino's face vanished.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, emitting a cold glint.

Yukinoshita Yukino was angry.

Not because Tanaka Masao was spouting nonsense—but precisely because he had a point, leaving her momentarily unable to refute him.

She never imagined that the word chuunibyou could one day be associated with Yukinoshita Yukino herself.

In her eyes, chuunibyou represented people who were mentally unsound and behaved eccentrically.

Perhaps because she had barely interacted with peers her age before, Yukinoshita Yukino had never realized this.

But now that Tanaka Masao had said it out loud, she herself…

Absolutely did not have chuunibyou.

"Tanaka-kun, before calling others chuunibyou, we should understand its definition.

So-called chuunibyou refers to people with excessively inflated self-awareness, arrogance, who feel misunderstood and believe themselves to be unfortunate."

As Yukinoshita Yukino finished speaking, the entire Service Club room fell into a terrifying silence.

Tanaka Masao stared straight at Yukinoshita Yukino, really wanting to say one thing.

[Yukinoshita-san… did you come up with that definition based on your own personality?]

Previously, Tanaka Masao only had a vague understanding of chuunibyou.

After listening to Yukinoshita Yukino's explanation, he gained a much clearer picture.

Yukinoshita Yukino turned out to be a high-purity chuunibyou.

Excessive self-awareness and arrogance went without saying.

As for the latter part—feeling misunderstood and unfortunate—

Not being understood or acknowledged by classmates might not make Yukinoshita Yukino feel unfortunate.

But not being acknowledged by her mother absolutely would. That was practically her inner demon.

Faced with Tanaka Masao's unblinking stare, Yukinoshita Yukino found herself momentarily at a loss for words.

She hadn't expected that pulling out her strongest weapon—logical argumentation—would instead further cement the fact that she had chuunibyou.

She coughed lightly twice in embarrassment before continuing.

"Based on the description, I do not match the definition of chuunibyou at all.

First, my excellence is a fact, not arrogance. Second, even if I were ostracized, I have never—"

She paused briefly. A trace of loneliness flashed through Yukinoshita Yukino's eyes, but she still spoke with firm resolve.

"I have never considered myself unfortunate."

Tens of billions of years later, when Earth is destroyed and erased from existence, only one thing will remain where it once was.

That would be Yukinoshita Yukino's mouth—because it was simply too hard.

Whether it was self-deception or self-protection.

In any case, Yukinoshita Yukino would never admit her own weakness.
