Slimes are the weakest monsters we currently know of. They are not inherently hostile, which already makes them more polite than half the adventurers I've met. Even when they attack, they rarely cause serious harm. However, they are surprisingly difficult to kill. Physical attacks have minimal effect on them due to their gelatinous bodies.
The most common method of killing a slime is to destroy its core using magic or a piercing weapon such as a spear or bow. However, there is a far more difficult—yet significantly more rewarding—method: removing the core intact from the body.
You can probably imagine why this is much harder, but let me explain why it is worth the effort. An alchemist can use a slime's body to brew potions, and a chef can use it to create certain desserts and dishes (they are delicious little things). However, the core is far more valuable. It can be used to craft advanced potions, forge weapons and armor, or enhance existing equipment.
A shattered core is worthless. If you have the skill, remove it intact. If not, stick to breaking it and move on, newbie! ;P
Behavioral Patterns: Most of the time, slimes remain where they are. They move rarely, and when they do, they simply bounce like a ball. They do not eat anything; the mana in the surrounding area is sufficient for them. We are not sure whether they sleep. We are not even certain whether they possess consciousness.
Habitat Information: They are among the most common monsters known, and unlike most others, they can be found outside of dungeons. If you walk beyond the walls of Aldreana City, you will likely encounter several. They can live almost anywhere, as long as the area has even a slight mana density.
Appearance: A light-blue, semi-transparent blob. The magical core is clearly visible inside its body, glowing blue in most cases. The membrane feels smooth and cold to the touch.
P.S. They are far too cute to kill. It may be the hardest challenge for a newbie—to steel your heart against something this adorable. T_T
