Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The First Class

Three days have passed since the last swordsmanship class. During these three days, Furan could only hunker down in her dormitory and begin practicing the Harmony Method.

Because Cuilan Academy's course scheduling is extremely relaxed, being arranged over an entire academic year, even if you select ten courses, you still have plenty of time for other things.

With only three classes left, Furan was even more leisurely. It wasn't that she didn't want to take more classes to earn credits, but courses could only be selected within the first two months of the academic year. So now she could only wait for Art Appreciation next week; the swordsmanship class is the week after next, and the arithmetic class is also next week, following Art Appreciation.

Actually, on the first day, she had wanted to increase her proficiency in her Breathing Technique first. However, after passing out from frantic practice on that first day, she abandoned the idea, deciding that practicing twice a day was enough.

Her current proficiency in the Breathing Technique is (73/100). By practicing twice a day, she can gain 6 proficiency points, which should be enough to level it up by the next swordsmanship class.

After she had consumed the forty-sixth set of materials, her Harmony Method finally reached a new stage.

[You have once again used the Harmony Method to create a solution with unknown effects. Proficiency +3]

[Harmony Method proficiency is full. Level increased.]

[Harmony Method (Mastery) (Proficiency: 1/1000): You are proficient at fusing two materials together in an aqueous solution.]

Then she began to try making a strength potion. She took out three sets of materials and placed them in the full set of potion-making equipment she had just spent 4 silver coins on.

This set of equipment was extremely expensive. In reality, it was just a set of grinding and chopping tools and a few glass flasks. But considering that this other world didn't seem to have reached the stage of mass production, it seemed the high cost of these tools was due to the high cost of manufacturing.

Regardless, after visiting several shops, this was the only price she could get, so she could only buy it with a heavy heart.

Furan first followed the techniques she copied from the "compendium of basic medicinal materials" to pluck the petals of the blood food flower, putting them into a mortar to slowly grind them into powder.

She chopped the animal meat and mixed it with the shard-like Windflower Crystals.

Next, she threw the animal meat and Windflower Crystals into a beaker and began using the Harmony Method to fuse the two. When only a small piece of matter remained to be fused, she threw in the powdered blood food flower.

After that, she continued fusing without stopping until the entire solution turned yellow. Her first real attempt at brewing a potion was a success.

The entire process didn't involve any stirring, heating, or other means; it relied purely on Spiritual Power to fuse things in the void. This was the pharmacy of another world.

[You have successfully made a strength potion. Harmony Method proficiency is full. Level increased.]

[Medicine Identification, Medicinal Material Processing, and Harmony Method have merged into Pharmaceutical Studies.]

[You have obtained the Class: Apothecary]

It finally came. She had seen the prompt for the merger long ago, but nothing happened after raising Harmony Method to Mastery. It turned out she actually had to make a potion.

As for this newly appeared Class, it could be called a pleasant surprise. She hadn't expected that a Class could appear like this.

This was her current panel.

[Name: Furan

Class: Apothecary

Attributes: Constitution: 1.0 Spiritual Power: 1.8

Skills: Pharmaceutical Studies (Mastery) (Proficiency: 631/1000): You are very proficient at making potions, but it seems you've only ever made a strength potion?

Star Gazing Technique (Beginner)

Swift Wind Breathing Technique (Beginner)

Magic Missile (Uninitiated)

Trait: Move With the Wind.]

The first thing she noticed was that her Spiritual Power had actually increased, rising from the original 1.4 by 0.4. She speculated that the Apothecary Class had boosted her spirit.

Also, Pharmaceutical Studies started with over six hundred proficiency points, likely pulled up by her previous proficient medicine skill.

Regrettably, why didn't I get a new trait even though I've mastered Pharmaceutical Studies? Does it need to level up again?

However, since forming this Class could actually increase my attributes, if I add a few more Classes, wouldn't my attributes skyrocket... As base attributes, even an increase of 0.1 was a qualitative improvement for her right now.

The previously increased Constitution was the key to her winning against Mars. Without that bit of Constitution, she might not even have been able to hold her sword steady.

And now, the increased Spiritual Power gave her a taste of success. When she used the Harmony Method, she felt her Spiritual Power covering the materials faster. The speed and precision of the fusion would surely be much stronger.

Furthermore, the General Education teacher she found in her memories had said this: "Spiritual Power is the key to learning Spells. You all have reached the standard for Spiritual Power, so in theory, you can all learn Spells."

Whether the increase in the Spiritual Power attribute could speed up her Spell proficiency grinding, she felt it was very likely... There were other Classes here similar to Apothecary, such as Magic Craftsman, Enchanter, Scroll Maker, Alchemist... If she collected all these Classes, wouldn't her base attributes take off?

Of course, the future is the future, and the present is the present. Learning those Classes would require money no matter what, and right now, her expenses exceeded her income—money was only going out, not coming in.

She needed to find a way to make money. She looked at the strength potion she had just finished. She remembered Teacher Rita saying to find her once she had learned the Harmony Method. Now that the potion was made, it was time.

She put the potion into the designated storage box and headed out.

---

Rita held the strength potion up to the air, observing its color against the light. After a moment of observation, she placed it on the table, took out a pipette, and dropped a small amount of the solution onto a piece of special paper.

After observing for a while, she turned back to Furan and said:

"Not bad. You made this strength potion very well. I can see the fusion is excellent; your Harmony Method has been practiced well..."

"The processing of the materials is also impeccable. However, your timing for adding the blood food flower was a bit off—you added it too late. Otherwise, the effect of this potion would have been much better..."

"How did you make the kind of mistake that only someone doing it for the first time would make? I heard you bought dozens of sets of materials; this shouldn't be the first one you've made..."

Furan held her forehead. She knew Teacher Rita had misunderstood. She had bought dozens of sets of materials, but they weren't all for strength potions.

Teacher Rita likely assumed she had spent over a hundred silver coins to buy dozens of sets and frantically brew strength potions, which was why her Harmony Method was so well-practiced.

However, she didn't plan to correct her. If she did, she would have to explain why she bought two unrelated materials to fuse. Was her brain fried?

People in this other world didn't have her game panel. They didn't know that she could level up just by practicing. A normal person would also learn after brewing dozens of sets.

But the unreasonable part of her panel was right here: if a normal person learned to brew a strength potion, they wouldn't actually be very good at brewing other potions.

Because the properties, size, and fusion speed of every material are different. At most, having some experience would make learning other potions much faster.

Her panel directly pulled her familiarity with the Harmony Method for all materials to a very high level. This way, even if she wanted to brew a potion she had never studied, she could succeed on the first try.
