Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Harvest

Furan returned to her dormitory with an excited heart. Looking at the room, which was almost filled with scrap metal and several boxes piled up in a mess, she felt for the first time that she needed to find a new place to live.

Originally, because she wanted to grind her skill proficiency, every time the thought of moving to a new home arose, she would immediately suppress it, thinking she could just endure it a bit longer.

But now, looking at the room where there was almost nowhere to step, Furan felt she could no longer tolerate it.

Here, there were not only weapons she had ruined while grinding Rune Craft, but also boxes of materials for brewing energy potions, and a lot of trash that should have been thrown away long ago.

Now that she had killed that Richter and acquired a set of skills that weren't bad even among High-level Apprentices, it was time to improve her quality of life.

However, that was a matter for tomorrow morning. People would think you were crazy if you threw out trash in the middle of the night, so it was better to clean up this stuff tomorrow.

She walked to the table and sat down, taking out tonight's harvest: a notebook with an extraordinary cover, a box, and several pieces of magic equipment.

In fact, her panel had also given her a prompt; as soon as she killed Richter, this notification popped up in her mind.

[You have fulfilled the future you prophesied. Star Gazing Technique proficiency +200]

[Star Gazing Technique proficiency is full. Level increased.]

First of all, the phrase 'fulfilled the future you prophesied' was somewhat thought-provoking. Did it mean it was possible not to fulfill it?

Regardless, being able to predict roughly what her future would be like gave her a great boost. Even though her Star Gazing Technique proficiency had increased, not a single bit of knowledge had flooded into her mind.

Now, she felt a vague intuition that if she were to look at the stars now, she would likely be able to see scenes of the future.

Furthermore, when she was killing Richter earlier, for some reason, she had been acting exactly according to the images she saw, and she had even erupted with power that clearly exceeded her normal level.

This led her to a guess: could it be that she receives assistance when she aligns herself with the scenes of the future?

This thought seemed to be validated as she inspected the magic equipment.

These pieces of magic equipment were all in good condition, with only slight wear and tear on the corners.

Their functions were what mages loved most: automatically popping up shields and providing offensive effects when facing an attack.

While these pieces of magic equipment had some wear and could theoretically malfunction, it was a bit abnormal for three pieces of equipment to malfunction at the same time, wasn't it?

She tested them now and found that they could still be triggered.

This caused a guess to surface in Furan's mind: could it be that if the scene I saw showed no magic equipment being triggered, then when that moment arrived, they really wouldn't trigger?

There were actually many other possibilities to discuss, but Furan's intuition told her that this was the case.

Pulling her thoughts back, she looked at the pieces of magic equipment. How should she handle them?

As for wearing them herself—putting aside the fact that these pieces had 'malfunctioned' before—even the sizes didn't quite fit her frame.

For example, one of the rings here Richter had worn on his index finger, but it wouldn't even fit on her small thumb.

Could she sell them outside? Who knew if someone might remember these as Richter's former possessions? Seeing that he was missing, they might trace the items back to her.

Moreover, she had actually made a fortune selling energy potions, so she looked down on this kind of magic equipment a bit. It would be better to make some herself after grinding her proficiency; she might be able to make things that were streets ahead of these.

"I'll just set them aside for now and deal with them later."

Then she looked at the gorgeously bound notebook and flipped through a few pages.

[Holy Calendar Year 3768, July 23rd. Observing the Mentor's modification techniques.]

[Content: Today, the Mentor is going to give a modification demonstration for those of us who have just joined the School. I am very excited to have such an opportunity.]

[The teacher chose a giant bird. According to the apprentices nearby, this bird should be called a Screaming Bird.]

[It is a type of magical beast that attacks using sound. Originally, there weren't many magical beasts here in Apprentice City, but this bird's habitat was destroyed, and it migrated all over, eventually arriving near Apprentice City.]

[There used to be magical beasts around Apprentice City, but as the city gradually expanded and more apprentices arrived, the mercenaries who came flocking here killed off almost all the magical beasts in the surrounding area.]

[This is an extremely rare magical beast in Apprentice City.]

[According to what the Mentor said at the beginning, magical beasts here are too scarce, which is unfavorable for learning Modification Studies. If there is a chance, one must change locations to study Modification Studies.]

[I heard that the Modification School's most famous move is to replace a magical beast's organs and transplant them into a human body, achieving the effect of casting Spell-like abilities without needing to learn Spells.]

[Apprentice City is truly too far from the habitats of magical beasts. In the three years since I joined the Modification School, I have actually only seen this kind of magical beast organ extraction surgery once.]

[But what can be done? The substances used to keep a magical beast's corpse active are extremely precious and simply cannot be used on the transport of basic magical beast corpses.]

[Furthermore, activation fluid can only slow down the decline of a corpse's activity; it cannot keep its activity at the initial stage.]

[Back to the main topic. The Mentor placed the Screaming Bird's corpse into a basin containing a colorless liquid. After placing it in, I saw the Screaming Bird's throat glowing.]

["This is the bird's primary magical organ. Most of a magical beast's value lies in this."]

[The Mentor said this, and then he demonstrated specifically how to extract the organ and what to use to preserve it after it was removed. As for how to transplant it into a human body, the Mentor said this:]

["That is new knowledge; you need to pay for it."]

Below were the steps for extracting magical beast organs drawn by Richter. He had carefully observed the mentor's techniques and recorded them in detail.

There were also many small notes indicating annotations and explanations.

Furan read with great interest. There were also some insights into creating modified humans, as well as surgical steps for strengthening Spiritual Power, though Richter had given up on the Spiritual Power strengthening surgery after several failed experiments.

After Furan finished reading, she could only close the notebook, seeing a new skill, [Modification Studies], appear on her panel.

This stuff couldn't be practiced like potions and runes. This was sensitive knowledge of the Modification School. If she bought a few too many corpses on the market, people would start noticing her. This stuff couldn't be used without ensuring secrecy.

Then Furan looked at the last item, which she felt was the most valuable piece of all.

Because a sentence was written on the front of the box.

[Apprentice Assessment Rank Reward]

Making Furan look forward immensely to what was inside, she slowly opened the box.

Inside was a piece of paper and a stone emitting a blue light, which looked quite beautiful in the night.

Furan looked at the paper, which only had the identification of what the stone was.

[spirit world guiding artifact].
