Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Settlement

Weilin Te picked up the two pieces of green jade stone and tossed one to Furan.

Upon catching the green jade stone, Furan felt her book vibrate slightly.

"Well... goodbye..."

Weilin Te said, and Furan responded:

"Goodbye."

Weilin Te finally breathed a sigh of relief. To be honest, she had been a bit afraid that Furan might suddenly decide to snatch the one in her hand to combine them into one; she certainly couldn't beat her in a fight.

She quickly recited the incantation, and after five seconds, her figure gradually became transparent and disappeared.

Only then did Furan begin to check what had happened with her book.

When she opened the book, she saw a line of notification on the cover page.

[You have collected three jade stones. Recite the incantation to exit the trial.]

Furan was in no hurry. Instead, she first looked at the small pouch she had taken from the person who had ambushed her earlier.

She opened the small pouch; inside were only some colorful crystals.

"What are these?"

Furan was quite puzzled. She had extraordinary-level Pharmaceutical Studies, yet she couldn't understand what these things were at all, which meant they weren't medicinal ingredients.

She also had mastery-level Rune Craft, but she didn't recognize them either, meaning they had little to do with enchanting materials.

"Forget it, I'll check the spirit world atlas when I get back. They might be in there. I just wonder if I can take these back with me?"

Two items had dropped from the person Furan killed. Based on her previous experience holding this book...

She shouldn't be able to take these two items to the Material Realm, yet Furan had a feeling that she could.

She checked them once more, and after confirming there were no issues, she recited the incantation.

Her consciousness began to sink, but it felt as if it only sank halfway.

When she regained consciousness, she found herself in a space with a black background.

Several lines of text floated in the air. They were in a script she didn't recognize, yet she found she could understand them.

[Trial Settlement

Red jade stone: Obtained.

Blue jade stone: Obtained.

Green jade stone: One-half obtained via two-person challenge.]

Furan scanned the text and saw the explanation for the green jade stone.

This two-person challenge only yields one-half? If I had challenged it alone, wouldn't I have gotten more?

That's a bit of a loss. Given the Vine Giant's skill level, she felt she could have finished it off in just one more minute. Had she known, she wouldn't have cooperated with anyone.

Furan watched for a while and found no further changes. She stepped forward and tapped the text, causing the words to dissipate and reorganize.

Why does it need interaction?

White text gradually emerged in the air again.

[Rewards: Trial Key, one random Spell.]

Then, a key-shaped object appeared before Furan's eyes, floating in mid-air. The void around it created a sharp contrast with the background.

A green orb of light also manifested in the air, emitting a warm glow as it waited for Furan to touch it.

Furan hadn't expected to obtain a Trial Key so quickly.

It seemed that once she returned, she could start preparing for her trial advancement.

However, Furan had no such intention for the moment. Just from Ichi's description, she knew that Spirit World Mage was definitely not a pit one should jump into lightly.

She was lucky this time to find a Trial Key directly, but what about after that?

If she ended up like Ichi, unable to find a Trial Key for the rest of her life, she'd be finished.

Furan stepped forward and touched the key. A line of text surfaced in her mind.

[The location for this trial is the Brilliant Dreamscape. Opening countdown: 184:13:46:30. Trial participants are requested to enter one hour in advance. Entry will close five minutes before the trial begins. No restrictions on the use of any Spells or Combat Skills.]

At the same time, the last digit of this countdown string was continuously decreasing.

The time units used in the other world were consistent with Earth's.

According to Furan's understanding, this string of numbers was arranged as Days:Hours:Minutes:Seconds. When the final decreasing digit reached zero, she saw the preceding number decrease by 1, and the last number became 60 and continued to count down.

In other words, there were still six months before this trial would open.

She grabbed the key and put it in her pocket.

No rush. She didn't even know if she'd participate yet; there was no harm in just taking it for now.

Then she looked at the cluster of floating green light, hoping to pull a good Spell.

As for obtaining a Trial Key, she felt it was only natural; her strength far exceeded that of a Spirit Realm Ranger.

Logically speaking, someone at her level should have advanced to the official rank long ago. If the spirit world had a consciousness, it ought to give her a key just to stop her from'smurfing'.

So for Furan, the Spell from this light orb was the real reward. If the reward was bad, this trial would have been for nothing.

She also knew what Ichi had said: for a Spirit Realm Ranger, it was almost impossible to learn Material Realm techniques after reaching the official rank.

This was the price, but the spirit world also offered compensation.

As long as you explored the spirit world, you were bound to obtain some strange Spells, Combat Skills, and items.

These were directly infused into your brain. According to the algorithm of Furan's panel, these techniques basically started at the mastery level.

This was the most anti-nepotism aspect. If you were a Spirit Realm Ranger, as long as you were lucky, you could piece together enough techniques to easily crush a member of a School.

There were absolutely no connections to exploit. At most, those'spirit world second-generation' heirs had more spirit world guiding artifacts and better equipment than you.

They couldn't even inherit a single Spell. If they were unlucky, they might stay at the apprentice rank for the rest of their lives.

There was another drawback to using techniques given by the spirit world: you basically couldn't improve the level of the technique. It would stay exactly as it was when you got it until the day you died.

However, it seemed Furan's panel was not subject to such restrictions.

In the trial, Furan had obtained [Light-Praying Art] from the book. Logically, it was also given by the spirit world, yet she could actually increase its proficiency when casting it.

Furan gently touched the light orb. After emitting a dazzling light, it vanished as if it had never existed.

Furan felt the knowledge of a new Spell enter her mind.

[Hard Scale Rock (Mastery) (Proficiency: 143/1000): Upon use, your body will be covered in a layer of Hard Scale Rock. Movement speed decreases slightly, but you gain powerful defensive capabilities.]

A defensive skill. Furan wasn't overly surprised, but it was acceptable; she did indeed need a defensive skill.

Other apprentices didn't learn them because they lacked the energy, but with her panel, learning some auxiliary skills was no problem at all.

It was just that she had been too busy before—making potions, carving runes, and practicing swordsmanship from time to time. She had even planned to buy a Mage Armor from Elan the next time she went to deliver a potion order.

Seeing there was nothing else, she recited the incantation, her consciousness sank, and she returned to the Material Realm.

Once she regained consciousness, she reached into her clothes and felt a key, a short sword, and a small pouch—but the tattered book was gone.
