Chapter 68 - Chapter 68: Blood of the Furnace

When Furan came to her senses, she saw a scene that shocked her.

The red ring tightly gripped in her hand emitted a dazzling light, and this light pulled her up, suspending her in mid-air.

The ground where she had originally stood was now nowhere to be found. Beneath her feet seemed to be a spherical deep pit; because the pit had not yet been filled, she could see its curved surface.

Directly below her feet was a large puddle of glowing liquid. Its surface was perfectly calm, but Furan could feel the heat from the rising steam.

As for her enemy, it seemed only a scream had been left behind. Nothing else remained, and Furan saw no trace of Beloli at all.

Seeing this scene, her first reaction was to breathe a sigh of relief. The ring Harbos gave her was incredibly powerful, instantly killing her opponent. In any case, this was a good thing for her.

But, what should I do now?

Furan looked at the red liquid below, which was so calm it didn't even have a ripple, and swallowed hard. Her hand was still clutching the glowing ring, and she was in a bit of a dilemma.

She could probably swing herself to a safe place using the momentum, but what about this ring? It was a piece of god-tier equipment that could create such a scene and instantly kill a Formal Mage.

Furan didn't want to give up this ring; if she did, she would have a hard time explaining it to Harbos.

"Hmm?"

She extended her Spiritual Power into the ring again, and she felt as if she could control this Spell.

Only then did she find a line of text within the ring—Tier 3 Spell: Blood of the Furnace.

Aside from that, there was no other information. She only felt that she could control the state of this Spell, but she didn't know what that state corresponded to.

She looked around and decided to try anything as a last resort, beginning to adjust the state of the Spell as if moving a progress bar.

This caused her already overextended Spiritual Power to drop again. However, this time she was prepared and forced herself to stay conscious through sheer willpower.

What happened next shocked her even more. The ring in her hand stopped glowing following her actions, and her feet seemed to touch soil.

She opened her eyes, unable to believe what she saw. The scene was like time rewinding; the original deep circular pit had vanished, replaced by the reappearance of the original ground.

What shocked her even more was that lying on the ground in front of her was the person she had just been fighting, that Formal Mage from the Modification School.

Only now, the life had left her face. Her eyes stared blankly at the starry sky, her arms were stiffly placed across her abdomen, and her longsword was thrust into her shoulder.

A small stream of blood still flowed from the wound, dripping onto the ground.

Furan stepped forward to check. After confirming that Beloli was as dead as could be, she suddenly understood what this Spell actually was.

Just like the process of casting iron in a crucible, this Spell could convert all surrounding matter into a red transitional liquid.

The peculiar thing about this Spell was that it could actually convert everything back exactly as it was.

Furan felt that there might also be a shaping process involved, where one could use Spiritual Power to mold the liquid into a shape before converting it back.

But Furan was still just an apprentice and couldn't use such advanced functions at all, so she could only use the conversion effect.

Still, the power was immense. She looked at Beloli's lifeless body and felt a chill in her heart.

Inorganic matter was fine, but if a living being was caught in this Spell, they would lose all consciousness upon being converted back.

Fortunately, this ring was specifically designed with a function to protect the user. It truly was Harbos's masterpiece!

Furan now had a very favorable impression of Harbos. Giving her such a powerful ring made her much safer for the future.

At the same time, there was a panel notification that Furan only noticed now.

[You used Blood of the Furnace to defeat an enemy far beyond your level. However, it seems you do not meet the requirements to cast this Spell. Blood of the Furnace proficiency +1]

Holy crap, even this can increase proficiency!

A surge of joy hit Furan's heart. This pointed out another path for her—a path to learn the Spells of other Schools.

While all Schools tried to prevent their Spells from leaking, they didn't guard against inscribing Spells onto rings.

After all, who could understand the inner workings of a Spell just by using a ring to cast it!

Although making such a ring required the cooperation of someone who knew the Spell, as long as the price was right, members of the various Schools would be willing. After all, it was just inscribing a Spell; it was normal, and the Schools wouldn't stop them.

Previously, Furan had looked down on these magic rings because they were too expensive. She thought she would just make one herself later, which would be better than buying someone else's.

Now, Furan couldn't wait to start making rings tomorrow and shamelessly leech Spells from all the Schools.

But for now, she had to clean up the scene. She looked at the corpse on the ground and then at her surroundings. It was late at night, and no one had noticed the battle.

She used her Hand of Telekinesis to lift the corpse. As for how to handle it, she had already made up her mind.

---

Back at Furan's home, the entire house was now filled with a layer of white mist. Although she had turned off the steam engine's furnace before leaving, her house's ventilation system was clearly inadequate.

Furan brought the corpse into the basement, turned on the light, and placed the body on a table.

Originally, Furan hadn't decided what to use this basement for. Putting a steam engine there would have exhaust problems, and using it for storage meant carrying things up and down a ladder, which was inconvenient for transport.

But now she had an idea.

She picked up the purple short sword and sliced across the corpse's throat, peeling back the skin to reveal a small structure emitting a purple glow. She carefully observed the flesh and blood connected to this structure.

[You observed a case of an Transcendent Organ existing within a human body. You have gained some insight. Modification Studies proficiency +3]

Exactly. This was Furan's way of making the best use of everything. As a Formal Mage of the Modification School, simply dissecting this corpse would likely grant her a lot of proficiency.

She tried to use the short sword to pry out the small purple object. However, she misjudged its stability. With just a little force, the structure flew out, bounced off the ceiling, hopped around the basement a few times, and fell to the floor, losing its luster.

[You performed a failed extraction of an Transcendent Organ, but you have made a mental note not to make the same mistake again. Modification Studies proficiency +5]

Furan remained expressionless. Although she had lost something that looked quite valuable, she knew it was impossible for her to successfully preserve several Transcendent Organs. Using them to grind proficiency was the right path.

"This liver has been cultivated... the heart seems to have been soaked in some liquid and turned blue... there are some small green bumps on the skin, what are these?"

After raising Modification Studies to the 'Entry' level, she could understand how these organs had been processed, but there were still some operations she didn't grasp.

After a night of hard work, Furan looked at the skills section of her panel.

[Modification Studies (Mastered) (Proficiency: 13/1000): You have mastered how to cultivate an organ and the method to transplant it into a human body. Of course, the success rate has yet to be verified.]
