"Enzo's lawyers are clever," Alessandro muttered, circling a paragraph with aggressive red ink. "They aren't just going for custody. They're alleging 'moral unsuitability' based on the nature of our business. It's character assassination, Sal. They're painting the Esposito family as a toxic environment for a child."


I took a sip of scotch, even though it was barely past noon. The glass was warm in my hand.


"They don't have to prove it. They just have to create doubt. Make a judge think twice. Delay proceedings. Force us to defend ourselves publicly while our dirty laundry gets aired in court documents that the press will get their hands on."
